Hi all.. , several of us on S&B have been posting about our clothese spending ( we know thatis what S&B is about [smile}.

We have wardrobes and chest of drawers utterlyand totally rammed...

We have piles of clothese we've even forgotten we have,(some with the lables still on )

We obsessively peruse S&B looking at recommendations (and then buy them, just because there are there)

We have no willpower,(yet Wink)

We are a friend to every online shop and discount offer going..(not to mention credit card companies)

We just cannot resist sales..

Our postmen and women and the local couriers are getting to know us better than our friends and neighbours..

BUT we want toget back into control and just enjoy what we have to wear.

To this end We the Undersigned PLEDGE to a NO spend August on clothes bags, accessories and shoes (and also make up and beauty products if that is your weakness)

The ONLY exceptions will be tights, basic underwear (knickers and bras) and to replace something that has Genuinley worn out..

It will be hard .. It will be tough.. We will have to be accountable to each other ..BUT WE CAN DO IT!

So Who's in? Smile

Sign up below .. (and try and resist spending for the rest of July.. this is NOT atime to stock up before too late!!)..

those who sign up wil be prepared check in here regularily

(A tyrant ain't I? Grin

Thats rubbish about the boiler! Well done for not buying anything for 3 days...be better than me, be strong!!!
watched the shopaholic programme just a minute ago! Did anyone see it? I did see aspects of myself..like the high then the guilt. The things that wasnt me was buying things i really dont need..like a random keyboard? I do it to make me happy, i do it as i am bored so to a lesser degree i see myself in all of them. It was eye opening! ...but the woman annoyed me on it tbh!

masterprocrastinator · 21/08/2014 21:45

Yes Greengarden I just watched the compulsive shopping programme. Interesting stuff, I also related to the high and the guilt, the bargain obsession, and shopping as sort of a loneliness, despite my busy family.

I also relate to seeing it as my 'justifiable vice'. So glad my obsession doesn't extend to angle grinders and multi-buys though Smile.

WillPenn · 22/08/2014 09:33

Apart from the £18 Next harem pants I have not bought anything. Feeling v. pleased with myself. I want to hold out until I go on a work trip to the USA at the start of November when I plan to buy some knee high black boots - I don't have a pair and it is the only thing really lacking in my wardrobe.

Valsoldknickers · 22/08/2014 10:31

I have caved in I'm afraid. I bought boots and a bag in the last week.

However this thread has made my twitching fingers keep away from buying rubbish that I don't need from the sales online so it has been a very worthwhile exercise so far. Thank you Laska for making me think!

My credit card bill was teeny tiny compared to usual this month and there was even weekly grocery shopping on it!

Greengardenpixie · 22/08/2014 11:13

Well i checked the status of my parcel and it hasnt moved on from last night really. Its saying that they have recieved information about the parcel coming. Its with DHL express. Im hoping that they just havent updated the system [ which has happened with courier companies] will be dissapointed if they dont arrive today :(..especially since i paid extra. We will see!
I think you are right valsoldknickers...i do think twice about purchases i must admit and looking at that programme last night, i dont have that much anymore and the things i do have i wear. So not a complete failure at this!!

Greengardenpixie · 22/08/2014 16:11

Well still no parcel ggggrrrr...and i phone DHL and they havent picked up any parcel. They told me to get in touch with Toast as they may have sent it by a different courier..and so i got in touch with Toast and they are checking it out but it looks increasingly likely that they arent coming today and im gutted!! I mean i know they will send out another pair. Its annoying though as now my dh will be in and i wanted to avoid him seeing me getting anything..double annoying!!!

Greengardenpixie · 22/08/2014 17:08

They said they would phone me back in half an hour..but its now been nearly an hour. They are tracking it in the warehouse. I wonder if they have been stolen by someone. I want my boots :( where are they?????

CoconutAmericano · 22/08/2014 17:15

Ah no way green nightmare!! Bloody typical too. I have been thinking about your fancy lace up boots today Smile.
I wore mine all morning and they hurt me around the tops, where the bottom of my leg starts. I think they need stretching out. Hopefully they will become comfortable or i will cry Sad

Ring Toast back. After many emails and phone calls to Cos they finally relented and gave me a credit note for my unworn shoes so i exchanged them for a gorgeous wool sweater. It pays to be a nuisance Grin

Greengardenpixie · 22/08/2014 17:49

My dh is home now! They may still phone as they are open until 8pm. If i dont hear from them i will phone in the morning...[or i might relent and phone tonight if i have time] Its just so annoying.

Greengardenpixie · 22/08/2014 17:51

..are they your new boots that are sore? Buy some shoe stretching spray. Its utterly amazing!!! You spray it inside and it stretches the leather. I have used it a million times. I think 'punch' make it.

Greengardenpixie · 22/08/2014 18:36

Im a bit annoyed actually. I phoned them and spoke to a nice enough person who tried to help but in actual fact basically said that the warehouse hadnt called back and that she would call me back tomorrow something about all the staff going home ???? she would get in touch when they open at 10am! I am dissapointed as i didnt even get an apology!..and it doesnt look like i am going to get them tomorrow either now :(

Greengardenpixie · 22/08/2014 18:38

...its not like they were just a cheap little pair of boots either Angry

SludgeBrown · 22/08/2014 20:57

Day 22 and I haven't made any purchases, no clothes, no accessories, not even make up. This is epic for me. It's made me evaluate the way I spend. Instead of the impulsive purchases, I'm going to make rational decisions from now on. I have a plan come 1st September but it doesn't involve racing around every shop on the High Street making up for lost time.

Karbea · 22/08/2014 22:30

I still haven't got anything either, I actually don't currently feel the need, but that might be because I can't afford to. I'm definitely carrying on into sept.

MrsEboJones76 · 22/08/2014 22:56

I have taken a long hard look at my wardrobe, working out which items I wear regularly and what I never wear. I like the idea of less clothes but that are worn often. I like the idea of things that can be dressed up or down.
With this in mind, I've been busy ebaying and have made just under £100. I list things at the minimum price I am willing to accept - never 99p!!
I cracked on Thursday and bought an olive green jacket from Gap with 30% off, using the 'it's a bargain' justification.

Clothes I feel most comfortable in are classic staples - breton tops, slim jeans, heeled ankle boots, scarves etc...
I calculated that this month I hsve spent £145 on myself. Ideally I'd like to spend no more than £80.

SludgeBrown · 23/08/2014 08:15

I'm thinking of giving myself a budget too. The husband rarely says anything about the spending although he raises his eyebrows occasionally. I used the excuse that I needed to buy new stuff for the blog. Really I was being greedy, I didn't need it at all. I also ebayed stacks recently and did a little experiment. I modelled some items (cropped my head) and took photos of other stuff just on the hangers. The modelled stuff went for far more. Worth the time and effort. Oh and I haven't spent a penny of it yet! I'm a new woman (lol).

Greengardenpixie · 23/08/2014 09:19

Well you must look good in it. If I see it on someone and it looks crap it would put me off!! It's interesting though that it sells better. Not keen on photographing myself. It would put others off anyway!! You have done very well!Smile

Greengardenpixie · 23/08/2014 09:21

coconut my boots came. They are on the box. Haven't opened them yet. Having my breakfast!!

Greengardenpixie · 23/08/2014 09:21

in the box!! I'm excited!!!!!!!!

MrPop · 23/08/2014 09:32

Sludgebrown I was just going to ask if you blogged - I like your blog! I can see that having a blog would lead you to shopping more, but I do think people want to see clothes worn a number of times and in a variety of ways. I like the fact you comment on shapes / styles / colours and who they suit.

I'm a bit ashamed to say that I have bought 2 things (online, not arrived yet) since I posted. Both cheapy things but I lasted ...um...a day?? I really want to do it properly in September though. I think lasting a month would do wonders for my will power.

Greengardenpixie · 23/08/2014 09:34

They are absolutely gorgeous gorgeous gorgeousGrin Grin
I tried them on quickly and they are perfect Smile Slightly roomy but I had no socks or tights on. Oh my........so lovely.

SludgeBrown · 23/08/2014 09:59

Oh dear I am so thick, how do I hi-light posters names??

MrPop thanks for your lovely comments. Have to say that I went manic crazy last year and bought loads (this has happened prior to the blog though so I can't blame it all on that). I am going to be much more disciplined this season. It kind of worked in Spring. I will work on variety as you suggest.

Greengardenpixie, don't be so harsh on yourself. Stick a pair of heels on even if it's a top you're photographing as it helps your posture. Oh and stand slightly sideways too. Mind you teenage daughters (borrow one if you haven't got one yourself) are always good to use and abuse as Ebay models!!

Do we get to see a picture of the boots then so we can salivate???????

cloutiedumpling · 23/08/2014 10:10

Do presents count? I've been eyeing up bags to buy for my Mum for her birthday.

So far I haven't bought anything for myself this month. I did buy a couple of Zatchel's bags last month though and have received an e mail saying they should be delivered next week. Does that count? This thread has made me think about what I am buying though and why and has stopped me from buying yet more boots. I'll hold out for the sales. By that time I may have worn out one or two of the pairs that I have already.

Greengardenpixie · 23/08/2014 11:37

I will post a picture of them later..but they are beautiful and although ultra expensive and more that i can ever justify [ i am not well off!! and have three small children] they will be with me forever, that i am sure of.

Greengardenpixie · 23/08/2014 11:38

sludgebrown you highlight with two asterisks either side. At the bottom it shows you lots of different things to do, emoticons in brackets etc..just scroll down and you will see it tells you. Hope that helps :)
