Ooops, sorry, I didn't mean to finish the thread.

OP posts:

Current bathroom has a pink carpet and cork on the walls and ceiling - apparently derigour in 1970s.........

NU - toys for the (very large) garden sounds a lovely idea.

I am Diego not wearing mine on Friday Rudy/cv as I know you two will look way better in it than I do!!

Still raining here - party is going to be a bit damp.

Blackduck · 19/07/2014 10:46

Diego?! Going to.....

motherinferior · 19/07/2014 10:47

We went to India to live for a year at the end of the summer of 1976.Grin New Delhi was even more stifling than the UK.

DP has taken DD2 to ToysRUs to purchase presents for the cousins.

Our bathroom is not one I would wish to describe online.Wink

Blackduck · 19/07/2014 11:02

MI seriously I'm only hinting at the full horror of mine (not one but 2 (II, two) non-functioning showers...).

NUFC69 · 19/07/2014 11:23

DGC are now coming as Dd and SiL are going to start packing for the move.

That's a good idea, Rose. I will have a chat with DH (why does thinking about these things fall to me?). Enjoy your day.

When ever we have moved we have always had to wait for ages to do any work on the house - there's always been something else to spend our money on (I mean big work like bathrooms and kitchens).

Rudy Grin
Love it!

Here I am probably a hated parent as it was charity concert. Dp was late as floor had arrived and despite £50 delivery charge the guy just dumped it on the kerb so do had to get it inside.
Dp arrives to see ds in tears, takes him round the back only to find out he's missed ds's bit (sky fall). These things are apparently interminable, BUT they let ds do his piece again Shock
Sorry all parents at St James'

CointreauVersial · 19/07/2014 12:01

Oh Rudy, that's hilarious. I certainly hid under the bed at boarding school with a friend, to avoid going to chapel, but I was considerably younger than 15. I can just picture them giggling away.

We have just taken delivery of DD2's Leavers Hoody, and they have spelled no fewer than FOUR names wrong, missed one surname completely, and added in a completely spurious child. Confused DD2's name, arguably the most obscure in the year, was correct, but if I were the parent of an incorrectly spelled one I'd be well annoyed. They weren't cheap either.

No thunder last night, but monumental rain, so the velux stayed closed and we broiled gently in our loft.

Off to Asda later to stock up for DD2's party (tomorrow - eek).

BD, we are shower twins. One of ours bit the dust at Christmas, DH smashed a few of the tiles, and it is still in the same state, seven months later. The second one works after a fashion. I am beginning to hate this flat. It is like one of those on a Channel 4 documentary about people living in squalor, where people gasp and wonder how people can live like that. And we discovered damp in another wardrobe and 80% of my work clothes are covered in mildew and will have to be thrown out. DH wants to do it all himself, as he doesn't want to spend any money on it, and has done absolutely fuck all to date. There is stuff in the hall, to go to the tip and charity shop that has been there for months. If he took that, at least we could walk through the hall without being attacked by precariously stacked boxes of crap. If nothing is done by the time we get back from holiday, I am just going to get someone in and pay to have it done. (He is taking leave while we are away to sort it out, and at least do DD1's room.)

bigTillyMint · 19/07/2014 12:57

Rudy, this is SO something my DC would do together. I daren't tell them the story lest they try a copy-cat!

BD, what a great story - that they let him do it againSmile

Leavers hoodies? This must be a MC phenomenon - at DC's school (and I think most in London) the kids all scrawl on each others polo shirts with felt-tips. And they hang in the wardrobe!

DD seems to be going to Brighton for her birthday celebrations. Phew! Might make her a cake though.
Any suggestions for a very cheap something to open on the day - she had the iphone months ago.

bigTillyMint · 19/07/2014 13:01

MrsS, can we nominate you for DIY SOS?!

At least my DH knows he is crap at DIY and hates it!

Stropperella · 19/07/2014 13:15

Ahh, the summer of 76 - last summer of primary school. A golden time, as I recall. Although I do have various memories of my mother being tediously unpleasant about an assortment of things - something to do with not wanting to admit the onset of puberty in yours truly, I think.

Everyone is our house today is a little zombified after a looong and somewhat emotional day yesterday. I do have a video of ds, but I'm not putting it online. The class did a bunch of BGT skits, some of which were written by ds, which took up probably 2 thirds of yesterday's assembly and then there was a 20 minute film that they'd made with the help of a technician from the upper school and with a script written by the class teacher. A take-off of Macbeth, based in the school, with ds as the lead. One of the teachers has a name very similar to Macbeth and it was all about his plot to become HT. All stuffed with in-jokes and v. funny. Not yer average assembly fare from a bunch of 8 and 9 year olds. We all got a cd with a copy of the film on it at the end of the day. When I picked ds up at 3.30, the class had had a massive water fight (they all took in water pistols etc) and the TAs were busy pouring buckets of water over each other and then chasing the parents to hug them. Grin

As ds and I (eventuall) walked up to the school gate hand-in-hand, he said "When I walk through those gates, I won't be part of this school any more; I'll be a new person". Gawd, he knows how to get to even an old cynic like me. :)

Then we went round to friends for a bbq with a bunch of other families. Lovely, but the event was somewhat marred by one of the younger guests falling out of a tree and breaking his arm. Luckily, it was still early, so his parents took him straight to A&E (about 5 mins away) and he was back 2 hours later with his arm in plaster and the party carried on.

We didn't make it home until nearly 1am.

Oh and ds (who has a bit of an unusual name combo) has had his Google duck broken with his first review - if you type in his name, the local paper's review of the Youth Theatre production comes up as the only hit. He's currently still unique on the Internet. Grin

Stropperella · 19/07/2014 13:18

Bah, it's pouring with rain and I am going to have to take the dog out at some point soon.

Blackduck · 19/07/2014 13:21

Sounds fab day Stropps!
MrsS MrBD is like MrBTM and fully recognises and embraces his lack of DIY skills and would far rather write a cheque. It has taken two years and some nagging to get to this point..

Stropps Ds doesn't even figure on the internet! Type him in an nowt comes back (and his names are not that unusual)

Still bloody raining.

Blackduck · 19/07/2014 13:24

Thunder and lightening now....

Stropperella · 19/07/2014 13:33

BD, there were no hits for ds up until now. His names aren't unusual, it's just the combo that is, perhaps.

MrsS, dh also insists that he can do everything and then very rarely does it. Or does it so effing slowly that it takes about 2 years from start to eventual finish, if we're lucky. We've had a half-painted stairwell/landing for coming up 4 years now.

motherinferior · 19/07/2014 13:34

RudyGrin

Dd1 has gone out to congregate with a large number of her friends in a local park. This was her idea. I hope it goes well and doesn't turn into a riot/they're struck by lightening.Shock

I am going to cruise charity shops and buy veg.Grin

bigTillyMint · 19/07/2014 13:49

Just googled my DC - there are many others with their names, mostly obituaries of women born 2 centuries ago for DD! DD's first entry is her Pinterest account, second is some gym comp results, then FB. DS's is just FB!

Stropps your DS's last day sounds brillSmile

No rain here yet.

MI where are you cruising op shops (DH's NZ name for charity shops!) - in my neck of the woods?

Rosebag · 19/07/2014 14:10

Rudy Thanks re your DM and Grin re Enid Blytonesque story of 2DCs in a cupboard. Kids don't seem to indulge in harmless naughtiness and pranks any more these days. We had a lot of fun at secondary school doing stuff like pulling out work men's plugs when they were drilling on another floor, locking science technicians in cupboards and ( I kid you not) streaking across the playground. Not me personally...about the streaking... No one seemed to get expelled over stuff like that then.

I feel very old...summer of 76 was the year before my o levels !
Just come back from Dparents..helping DM clearing out a cupboard. What a depressing experience. She won't fxxking throw anything away. So I just had to return it all to the cupboard but tidily.

My DH is of the throw money at it rather than hazard a go at DIY variety. But he's turning in to a tight old git these days. Unless the shower breaks down, because he needs it!!
Sunny here. Play is in progress at Lords...lucky DH Hmm

CointreauVersial · 19/07/2014 14:11

DS and DD1 are not particularly unique, but DD2 is the only one on Google. Mostly appearances in plays and school stuff (hers was the winning design for the school flag at Infant School, which made the local papers).

bigTillyMint · 19/07/2014 14:51

Rose, my DM is the same. It is VERY frustrating, especially when it is jam jars!

My DH has always been a tight old git.

Rosebag · 19/07/2014 15:27

Tilly time we met, don't you think? Grin

motherinferior · 19/07/2014 16:35

BTM, was up WAF's way.Grin Though found nothing of interest this time.

My children's names are, I can confidently say, unique.GrinGrinGrin

bigTillyMint · 19/07/2014 16:46

Yes, deffo Rose!

Am lying in the sun relaxing now DD and mates have gone off to organise for the party. They are very excited - I so hope it goes well.
