I know, in all sorts of ways if less awful than yours, Rudy. Just found a form I should have sent in about DD2's musical instruments, a week ago. DP and I are wiped after rain kept us up all night - to the point where I didn't do my ladyjog (am vast and flabby) and we he managed to grump vociferously about all sorts of pointless things.

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/07/2014 08:22

What storm?
What rain?

I am going to the doctor this morning to see if they can sort out my Strange Rash.

lalsy · 18/07/2014 08:26

That storm was amazing. What happens to planes if storms like that are forecast? dd due to fly off with friends soon [wibble].

Blackduck · 18/07/2014 08:31

MrsS are you in some strange pocket of London that is storm free?

Lasley - I thought they still fly, but try to go over/under/around.... someone did tell me a horrendous story of flying over Bulgaria (in the days of the Eastern Bloc - bit apposite this in light of todays news) and there was a thunderstorm and they wanted to drop below it and Bulgarian military said they would shoot them out of the sky if they didn't go higher- so they went through it - he said it was the scariest hour of his life.. Shock

Blackduck · 18/07/2014 08:33

Having said that dp and ds both slept through it and it was lighting up the whole sky here!

herbaceous · 18/07/2014 08:37

It was extraordinary! I've never heard thunder so loud. It seemed to be right in the bedroom. DD heard it, but wasn't scared, apparently. That's my boy.

Only three days left of this term. He has a new teacher next year, and new classroom, so although there'll be the same children, hopefully there'll be a new dynamic. I'll flag up the problem with her at the start of term, and hopefully all will be well. In the meantime, we'll spend the holidays with his old friends to boost his confidence.

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/07/2014 08:37

My scariest flight (nearly typed "fright" then) was from Warsaw to Brussels in the 1980s. LOT had just lost an Ilyushin 62, which had crashed in the Kabacki forest shortly after take off (and was thenceforth known as Lands On Trees), and said that they had taken all of their Ilyushin 62s out of service. Boarded the plane and it was an Ilyushin 62. They announced their apologies but said they were very short of planes, but as compensation, would be serving us all with a hot meal. They then handed out two miniatures of vodka to every man, woman and child on the plane (flight was at 0700) and we took off. The flight was completely silent, apart from the woman next to me who screamed and clutched my arm when we hit turbulence. And when we landed, everyone applauded loudly.

NUFC69 · 18/07/2014 08:42

DH was flying on a fairly small plane in Norway a few years ago and one of the two engines packed up. They just kept on flying to their destination where they landed in a blizzard. All well but DH said that the local media were out in force trying to interview the passengers. Fortunately I knew nothing about it at the time. DH, being in the aerospace business, wasn't even worried when he was flying. It does help sometimes when there are crashes as his background knowledge keeps me sane when I am about to fly.

Storms are forecast later here.

Ah found you!
Was also wondering about Wilbur and how the air b&b studio was doing.

Herbs would be dying to attend ds's Premiere. Smile Especially if there was to be a post-screening discussion panel with Jonathan Meades and Mark Kermode.

Thundering here at top volume. Headache weather.

herbaceous · 18/07/2014 09:05

Simon Russell Beal says he's on for next Friday, but is asking for a bowl of blue M&Ms.

Blackduck · 18/07/2014 09:20

can you get blue M&Ms?

motherinferior · 18/07/2014 09:31

About to phone local music service. Hello, it's the woman who had to send in her child's piano music urgently the night before the exam. And whose child didn't know all the scales for said exam. Now there's a form I forgot to send in...

I suppose at least they won't worry I'm a tiger mother.

Rosebag · 18/07/2014 09:44

cremo I have the mother of all headaches….you're right. How's DD?
Lalsy planes fly in storms all the time….never fear. I remember DM telling me that she was on a plane that got hit by lightening back in the 1950's when planes were held together by string! She said it was noisy but nothing happened. They just flew on…
Herbs good idea to start as you mean to go on with your DSs teacher in September. Zero tolerance of bullying, I say!!
Thanks NU it is a fantastic itinerary and I feel privileged that we can give the kids this experience.
Having a morning to self…gels and then haircut Smile (much neglected witches wig at the moment…hope to come out with sleek, glossy coif). DH is working at home waiting for plumber to deal with leaking (no, gushing) and much neglected outdoor tap. DD breaks up today, so last morning of freedom til September. Then we are watching DD's youth theatre production of Oh What a lovely war (ironic)…invited for pre show drinks and canapés…one (the only) advantage of DH being trustee…
There seem to be a lot of us with DC thesps! Grin

beachyhead · 18/07/2014 10:33

Found you. Last day of hols here, may dare to get out from under my umbrella soon. I'm not a big tanner, seeing as my natural colour is deep red!

No major thesps here, apart from aforementioned llama. Dd2 is doing a week at 'musical theatre' camp, which could be painful afterwards! She also joins the junior theatre group, but in our area it doesn't start till year 6.

Rose, glad to hear your ds is away from the troubles.

Blackduck · 18/07/2014 10:53

blimey Beachy that seems really short! (was it? or is that just me!)

Ds is a drama llama in all respects :)

On bathroom news we have a radiator and extractor fan..... tiles today....

beachyhead · 18/07/2014 11:15

Just a week, Saturday to Saturday... Thanks, you've reminded me to pick up tiles tomorrow afternoon.... Kitchen is slowly dragging it's way to completion.

Blackduck · 18/07/2014 12:02

Just so you can preview ;)

If you go about 12.00 mins in you see ds.......
herbaceous · 18/07/2014 12:07

< applause > Your DS is marvellous! Good voice, too!

Blackduck · 18/07/2014 12:11
Blush
motherinferior · 18/07/2014 12:18

Terrific. Grin

Stropperella · 18/07/2014 12:34

Fab, BD. And that takes me back to Dd's only major performance - she was Fairy Liquid Grin

I went to ds's Leaver's Assembly feeling sick as I always do on these occasions, expecting to sit through something at least fairly cringey. Dh and dd also came. I have to say I looked like this -> Shock by the end of the hour. And other parents came up to me afterwards and said vvv nice things. Dd was also like this Shock One of the teachers said "That's Cambridge Footlights material". Grin Grin Their teacher is so damn good and ds has, I think it is safe to say, ended the year on a high.

Stropperella · 18/07/2014 12:34

Bah - Leavers'. Bloody phone.
