Ooops, sorry, I didn't mean to finish the thread.

OP posts:
Blackduck · 18/07/2014 18:01

Thanks all!

Ds was born in May of 2003 - we went to Portugal for a couple of days in the August and nearly died! I recall ds being slung on the bed with air con on full blast whilst dp and I sat on the balcony......

Oh no CV - green here too Grin

CointreauVersial · 18/07/2014 18:11

Aww, just watched BD Junior. What a talent. Not a trace of nerves.

Just lit the BBQ; planning to fry a few sausages in honour of DS's return (tired, covered in insect bites and bearing a suitcase of muddy clothing, how kind), then off to watch DD1 and the rest of Y8 massacre Joseph.

NUFC69 · 18/07/2014 19:11

Herbs, it's good to hear that people are being supportive about the bullying of DS.

I had my PFB in the summer of 1976 when, if I remember correctly, it didn't rain from April until September - a Minister for Drought was appointed. The day PFB was actually due the hedge at the back of us caught fire - we never did find out what started it. I also remember doing the ironing just wearing my bra and pants - not a pretty sight! We were living in Essex at the time and I can remember having a panic that we wouldn't get to Chelmsford (down the A12) in time for the birth.

It has got very dark here and there is that curious silence which usually preludes a storm.

addle · 18/07/2014 19:28

Fab BD

Wonderful news Stropps and Rose.

Fingers crossed, Lalsy, and all will be fine.

QueenQueenie · 18/07/2014 19:39

Hi Addle, long time no see!

bigTillyMint · 18/07/2014 20:39

So addle, was it worth going in today?!

hattymattie · 18/07/2014 20:44

Hello - just checking in to mark my place before DF switches off the internet for the nightHmm.

bigTillyMint · 18/07/2014 20:49

hatty, does he think you are still a teenager? Or does it cost too much to leave it on at night?WinkGrin

bigTillyMint · 18/07/2014 20:51

NU, the summer of '76, I remember it well - a week-long guide camp in Aberdaron in sweltering temps and a million unsupervised visits to the outdoor pool with my mates. Those were the daysSmile

NUFC69 · 18/07/2014 21:10

BTM, I can't believe it's 38 years ago and now DS has 2 children of his own.

I have retired to bed; I am tired, a little hungry, and fed up (no idea why), but I know if I stay up I will raid the fridge.

Blackduck · 18/07/2014 21:31

Too much beer and wine, a house of sub-teens but sorted somewhere for ds to go Saturday night so I can hit the big party in the field - result!

Ohh and we have all walked on the new bathroom pebble floor and it's lush Grin

hattymattie · 18/07/2014 21:54

BTM - I think it's just old people and their habits[grin. As you can see I'm still here although I've been told off for being antisocial and not paying sufficient attention to Masterchef.

Blackduck · 18/07/2014 22:08

Hmm crepeys or masterchef - a tough choice :)

CointreauVersial · 18/07/2014 23:02

Bathroom pebble floor, eh? Get you!

My memory of 1976 is sitting on the front lawn, and realising it was all brown and crispy (I was 9).

Looking forward to some more thunder and lightning tonight. I love it.

bigTillyMint · 19/07/2014 07:43

Yes Hatty - it's the kind of thing my mum would do!

Ooh BD, is it a pebble flooring or pictures of pebbles on the flooring?

It is sweaty here and I haven't even hit the gym yet!

Blackduck · 19/07/2014 08:23

Proper pebble flooring BTM with real live (well inanimate) pebbles! And a rock sink which potentially will pull the unit off the wall it's so heavy Hmm

Rosebag · 19/07/2014 08:51

Mice CV eeeeek! Can you borrow someone's cat for a night or two? How was Joseph? God that brings back memories.

Our theatre's adaptation of Oh What a Lovely War was rather long but surprisingly good. Thank heavens the air con was on in the auditorium...although it wasn't in the bar. I was stuck together in just about every bit that could stick. Proud of watching my dyspraxic DD in a dance piece!!! Of all things....never seen her keep to the beat as well. And she'd kept it really quiet...hadn't said a word during rehearsals. She was then very proud to have been chosen to be a flag bearer in the next scene., centre stage. Sorry to go on but it's so great to see her doing things she always got left out of at primary school for being clumsy. Smile
What a sweaty night. We're in the loft so it's a sauna. Pelting now. DH has corporates for Lords today. Tee Hee....

bigTillyMint · 19/07/2014 09:06

Wow BD, that sounds really up-to-the minute, and way too stylish for my DH to even contemplate! You will have to post photos.

Rose, sympathies - our loft is a sauna too, ATM. Thankfully it's our spare room!

herbaceous · 19/07/2014 09:12

Summer of 76 was all about running through sprinklers. And our house burning down in an arson attack. Which wasn't so good. It was also when DP was born!

Disappointing lack of thunderstorms last night round our way, but still so boiling didn't sleep very well. And have packed social diary today - brunch with some friends, then a 40th birthday party in Tunbridge Wells. I'm staying overnight, but at the neighbour's house, which could be weird... Then back home tomorrow for lunch with the outlaws, thankfully in a pub rather than one I have to cook.

Lots of support and advice continuing to flow my way re DS bucking, ranging from the 'go in all guns blazing threatening a formal complaint to the chair of governors' to 'have a quiet word with the bully's mother'. I think I'll tread the middle ground.

Blackduck · 19/07/2014 09:12

We sleep in the loft too.... The only advantage in this heat is when it does break we are so high we get a good through breeze...

Pouring down here!

I need to pack for everyone as we are decamping for a week or so (dp's big conference)
BTM - I will post before and after shots! The before will horrify you!!!

NUFC69 · 19/07/2014 09:30

BD, bathroom floor sounds lovely. We redid our bathroom about 8 years ago; it was turquoise! Shudder.

The threatened storm didn't arrive here and it's clammy (obviously not on the same scale as the South).

Rose, you should quite rightly be proud of DD - how marvellous for her to do well.

I have a problem with which I would welcome help: off to Ruby Wedding Anniversary party next Saturday and have been told no presents, but would like to do something. Any ideas? One thing I did think about was taking something for their GC, aged 6/7 and 4/5 in one family, and I in the other. Friends have an enormous garden (over an acre) and they are having a marquee for the party - I did wonder about toys for the garden? I am looking forward to seeing everyone again as one daughter I haven't seen since her wedding day about 10 years ago.

bigTillyMint · 19/07/2014 09:30

Eeeek, Herbs, your DP was born the year I started secondaryShock

BD, our old bathroom had pink carpet on the floor AND up the side of the bath!

Rosebag · 19/07/2014 09:57

OMG!!!! an arson attack Herbs!!!! Shock How on earth did you manage with a baby? Re bullying…my sister had a similar problem for different reasons with DNeph. On someone's suggestion she sent him to karate classes for confidence and control. It really did the trick and now at 14 she's just, this week posted on FB that he's qualified as a black belt!
NU we seem to get invited to a lot of parties where the invite says "no presents"…awkward. I often just take flowers. I have also made donations to charities in the host's name. And I have also had trees planted in a forest in their name…usually in Jerusalem but you can also arrange for it in the rain forest too. HTH
Our bathrooms are so in need of renovation. DH just gets that look on his face that says "Dream on, woman…" Angry
Right well, he has gone off to Lords. DS1 is going to new flat to wait in for bed and fridge deliveries. DD and I are going out to get her a Frozen poster she's had her eye on in Asda and then to DParents…I did their ironing this week as their cleaner is away, and poor DDad has another UTI. DD's final show later…we're watching again, nice but long…Hmm
