Nice robe Rudy ;)
Here it's hot hot hot......

V&A today and very nice Lebanese lunch. Rattled off application form.....we'll see. Bought pair of jeans and they they don't fit - serious diet beckons. Lots of salad and no cake!

bigTillyMint · 24/07/2014 19:41

Rudy, kimono's are all the rage with DD and her mates ATM!

BD, Lebanese lunch v nice - much better than Subway! Do you want to do a meet-up on the bus from the Horniman or have you got another plan?!

wordassociationfootball · 24/07/2014 20:24

Wasn't actually that much fun being out with mum and kids. It takes me by surprise when she starts to talk over the children (can't hear them) and the children and she direct questions for each other via me. How strange that I always forget about that between visits.... recipe for happiness apparently: to have an optimistic outlook and bad memory. Grin

Followed the day of 'do whatever you like' with get whatever you want for tea. They did their shopping and chose chips, garlic bread and crisps. Went down so well, I've said they can have another 'Whatever you like' day later in the holidays although it hung in the balance when they were shirty about washing up at Granny's.

BTM jel, jel, jel of being in garden with headphones. Am charging my ipod right now to do it too.

Must get out of house to get some air and time to myself. Are the holidays nearly over? Ho ho ho ho ho ho.

Had a lovely day today with my NCT pal, and her DS who's known my DS since birth, a neighbour of pal and her two boys. The fountains in the local square were working, so much fun had by all, then up to another playground where all boys played nicely, then got my car valeted inside, and cleaned outside, all for a fiver! Lovely young men. Only bothered to muck out the car as giving friend a lift somewhere tomorrow, and it was ankle-deep in biscuit crumbs.

But then, as ever, DS was a royal pain in the backside at bedtime, and he, once again, spat all over the mirror after cleaning his teeth. I growled and made him clean it with a towel, but he was mucking about and knocked everything off the basin. I shouted. He ran off looking scared. However, he has subsequently stayed in bed, unusually, so I may have to use selective terrifying as a tactic more often.

Blackduck · 24/07/2014 20:43

Hi BTM think Horniman might be put off to Saturday! Will text you if it's back on tomorrow.

bigTillyMint · 24/07/2014 20:50

Ok!

CointreauVersial · 24/07/2014 21:52

Greetings from Devon! We were in the car by 6.30am, and spent the first half of the journey thinking of all the things we'd forgotten - glasses and hairdryer (me), swimming trunks and windbreaker (DH). We pulled into Salcombe four hours later, just as it started hammering with rain.Angry Luckily, the weather perked up, so we took a turn around the harbour in a wee boat, ate pasties and had a look around the shops. Salcombe is very posh and yachty - we couldn't afford anything didn't really fit in - but it was a nice place to spend the day.

We are now ensconced in the Premier Inn in Plymouth - big surprise of the day is how nice Plymouth is (round the harbour, at least). We sat outside eating crab salads and quaffing St Austell ale, watching the world go by, wandering through the lanes with ice creams....lovely. Ruined slightly by the bickering DCs, who were a bit rough around the edges by dinner time.

Then, just as we were getting into the lift at the hotel, a voice said, "Do I know you?" It was a woman I haven't seen for six years, whose daughter was at preschool and infant school with DD1, but who moved away. It was really nice to to see to see her (and her now-teenage DD), and really bizarre to find out they are two doors down from us in the hotel.

Aquarium tomorrow, possibly, then we hope to find some sort of beach.

Have a nice meet-up. Smile

bigTillyMint · 24/07/2014 22:16

You got your teens into a car at 6.30am? Respect! We have to leave at 5.30 next Wed - DS is saying he'll do an all-nighter!
Did you rush into the nearest Boots to buy another hairdryer and glasses? Sounds like the day got a lot betterSmile

It seems that there has been something of a drama in Brighton, but they are back and sorting things out in the park at the end of the road AFAIKHmm

herbaceous · 24/07/2014 22:57

Salcombe is ridiculously posh, isn't it, with its own uniform - knee-length shorts for men, v short denim shorts for girls, rugby shirts with turned up collars, boating shoes. All faded by requisite time actually on yachts. I'm sure there must be a number of laundering services that can replicate the exact shade of fade required to look sufficiently yachty for newcomers.

And yes - Plymouth is surprisingly nice! We had lunch in the seafood place next to the aquarium, the only downside being Michael Gove and his entourage were on the next table.

DSis' s wifi is accessible so here I am. Not a particularly pleasant trip down to Shakespeare's county yesterday, the traffic on the M1 was dire. We stopped in Derbyshire on the way down and had lunch with DBil and wife.

MI, DH has put petrol into his diesel engine, but realised on the forecourt so no damage. Why on earth didn't your DFr ask at the petrol station what to do (rhetorical question).

Herb, your day sounds lovely; well, apart from the end.

Rose, well done, Dd.

Have a great day today those who are MU, and on holiday. We're going for a walk with DSis - I only hope I can cope with all the people everywhere - we can't get over the crowds and traffic everywhere (country bumpkin emoticon).

hattymattie · 25/07/2014 08:26

Love a good put the world to rights session Rudy - did you sort out the Middle East and Ukraine as wellWink?

I have painted all the beds and continue my week of virtuousness by washing the cushion covers. DD2 returns tomorrow and DD1 Monday so I need to get the house vaguely livable by then.

I'm going to have to paint my room slightly lighter - will wait till half term to do this.

motherinferior · 25/07/2014 08:52

Btw before I forget - I may not get to meetup till Tas. It's booked in my first name.

Rosebag · 25/07/2014 09:07

Crepeys chilling in their back garden…made me realise that I haven't sat out ONCE this summer as yet Sad Don't know what's happened to us lately…we're all ships passing in the night. Adult children moving out; teens travelling to far away places; DH spending longer and longer at work…presumably to escape me. And what am I doing?…not very much is that short (and long) answer! Still, although I'll never be ready, me and DD are off to West Sussex tomorrow for 2 weeks…high hopes of outdoors and chilling, (but not chilly…)
Got one last client to see this morning, then DD to a Drs appointment and then to watch her bullying dance presentation at the theatre.
WAF both my parents are deaf…they talk over each other, me, the kids…and yes, then I have to mediate…migraine city.
CV Devon sounds amaaaaazing. Enjoy.
Hatty I don't think anyone can sort out the middle east. Its getting me down terribly …all the hatred on facebook. And the double standards of the international community beggars belief. But I do admire your decorating…sounds like the place is going to look lovely!!
Have a lovely meet up tonight Crepeys!

herbaceous · 25/07/2014 09:12

I'm probably a Tas-joiner too. What time is it booked for?

I haven't really sat out in the garden either. It's almost been TOO hot!

The state of the world is worrying me muchly. Climate change, the Middle East, Ukraine, Africa, deteriorating food chain, inequality, etc etc. but yet I don't actually do anything about it, other than some desultory recycling and buying organic chicken.

bigTillyMint · 25/07/2014 09:35

Rose, the upside of our continuing kitchen work is that we have eaten in the garden every night for over a month. And then we sit and chill together for a while - so lovely. Makes me almost imagine we are on a camping holiday again!
QQ how is your kitchen going? You haven't moaned at allBlush

Hatty, I am going to have to follow your lead when we get back and paint/paper DD's room. If I can get her to move her mountain of stuff out first.

Had a discussion with DH about the bombings, etc last night. Very tricky situation, isn't it? Rose, hope your DS continues to enjoy his hol.

lalsy · 25/07/2014 09:47

WAF, we've had exactly that about questions going via me...very very odd.

Global situation terrifying.

Rose, I love West Sussex, think it is extremely chilled place, sort of magical hidden valleys in places.

Have a great MU crepeys. I am out tonight with very old friends.

NUFC69 · 25/07/2014 09:51

I too could get very upset by the situation in the Middle East, so awful for everyone. And don't get me started on the Ukraine crisis ....

We had breakfast outside here and it was breezy so consequently quite chilly. Sad However sun is out now so hoping for some warmth. It's funny because oop north we have really lovely mornings but can rarely sit out at night.

motherinferior · 25/07/2014 10:00

Booked for 7.30 tonight. Or just follow the Loud Wimmin.

NU, I think friend's DH has probably asked that question quite a lot. I suspect she panicked and did the first thing that came into her head.

PMSL at Herbs and Michael Gove. Did you wave jauntily?

Phone call from my sister, who has survived a three-day visit from our parents. They are both being impossible. DM continues a lifetime of being weird around food ("oh no I couldn't possibly eat all that" when confronted with a perfectly normal sized plate of pasta) and galloping intellectual snobbery/self-obsession (she is currently galled by the fact that SIL is about to do a PhD, whereas neither DSis or I have done this and obviously this is all about her: she also insists that DNephew's school is not challenging him enough, whereas in truth he is absolutely fine and doing marvellously) and DF is phobic about my sister's perfectly normal dogs (I'm not wild about dogs in general but these dogs are as lovely as QQ's) and his hearing gets worse and worse but he absolutely refused to do anything about it.

Rosebag · 25/07/2014 13:24

I am upset about the Middle East for so many reasons, not all of which people will agree with. But I am also trying to come to terms with the fact that I may have to try and fall out of love with James O'Brien over it. I am bereft. Sad
