The new loreal advert for hairspray got me thinking about my school days when Insette was the hairspray of choice. Hair never moved for weeks and you could practically snap it off. Vidal Sassoon that smelled like apples. Constant Carol that only did foundation in orange, oranger and orangist. Care to add yours Smile

Rimmel Black Cherries lipstick was absolute fave, along with Body Shop Fuzzy Peach and Papier Poudre, you know, that little book of paper coated in face powder that was either deathly white or weirdly pink and do you remember those shit dolphin shaped bath pearls?

Trickydecision · 15/07/2014 15:20

Anyone remember Aqua Manda? Orange favoured perfume in a brown bottle. Apparently a cult item set to make a comeback. I'd buy some.

Icantcook · 15/07/2014 15:21

You can still buy Contance Caroll makup and aqua manda

Biactol for spots, another lovely gentle product!

4711 eau de cologne - 'as cool as the breeze on a bright summer morning...'

monsterowl · 15/07/2014 15:30

I love this :D

  • Face powder made up of lots of coloured balls
  • Harmony hair colour in a prism-shaped box
  • Biactol face wash
  • Duo-tan (is that what it was called? Basically the only brand of self-tanning lotion you could buy)
  • Peel-off face masks
  • Timotei in the original white and green bottles, featured in the ad with the Alpine lass washing her hair in a barrel
  • Shampoo de Parfum ... anyone else remember this?
  • Those Clairol make-up cases that had a light inside
  • The concept of 'scrunch drying'
dobedobedo · 15/07/2014 15:32

Oil of ulay (not sure what that actually did but they were always advertising it on 80s tv
Impulse

PhantomTollbooth · 15/07/2014 15:39

Monster

Oh yes Duo Tan. Creator of a tan so luminous an orang utan would consider it too much.

JerseySpud · 15/07/2014 15:40

Creme Silk conditioner!!
Louis Marcel wax strips
Cover Girl make-up

honeybeeridiculous · 15/07/2014 15:44

I once had green hair for the summer after over doing the sun-in! Remember my dad went ballisticGrin
I remember all these things, loved bodyshop strawberry
used 'organics' shampoo and wash and go,
panache perfume?
Iced champink lipstick
pretty peach handcream from avon
the 'Chelsea girl' shop did their own lip gloss that I loved!

TractorTedMum · 15/07/2014 15:47

OMG that Limara ad, the cartoon one, was a blast from the past, wonder would it be allowed on tv nowadays??

Does anyone remember Tahiti shower gel in a square sort of bottle, I have a vague memory of it being a green bottle?

VO5 shampoo that smelled of apples.

My brother used to use Biactol. I used to lash it down the loo for the bubbles, early 80's I was about 3 or 4. My Mum to this day always says it was the only thing to shift limescale Grin

Blue Jeans and Just 17 magazines. I miss those times. Al Santos and James Layton were the male totty who used to model in J17.

Prforone · 15/07/2014 15:59

Peach Cooler lipstick, by Avon.

Trickydecision · 15/07/2014 15:59

Thanks icantcook, but wasn't Aqua Manda relatively cheap in the olden days? It is not so now. But maybe I am suffering from false memory syndrome. Or just getting old.

Jackie0 · 15/07/2014 16:03

No fake tan , just wash off shimmer stuff, so you got white spots on your legs if it rained at the bus stop.
Cool kids had a Benneton jumper and used the carrier bag for school.
Before impulse was invented it was Limara, soft musk? We all had different flavours on a school trip and for years that scent would bring me right back.
Wash and Go was too modern and treated with suspicion.
Shaders& toners in plum.
Rimmel concealer used as lipstick .
There was a plastic square bottle of shower gel called Hitati?
The shower attachment for the bath, no one actually had a shower.
Zest , a really string lemon soap.
A more expensive treat was Helena Rubinstein Silk Fashion foundation, I swear I've never found anything as good since.
White cotton bomber jacket and white pointy flats like Lady Di.
A Fergie bow on a low ponytail.
Diamond / pearl broach worn at the top button of floaty silk shirt.
Sorry gone a bit off topic, getting carried away Grin

Jackie0 · 15/07/2014 16:04

Tahiti !

Jackie0 · 15/07/2014 16:14

TractorTedMum · 15/07/2014 16:18

Thank you JackieO I have a very faint memory of we washing the dog in Tahiti pmsl and our Mum going mad.

Does anyone remember you could buy shampoo in little sachets, was it Silvakrin? Or Palm Olive?

Naicecuppatea · 15/07/2014 16:20

Does anyone remember drawing 'beauty spots' on their face with brown eyeliner - can you imagine!

vladthedisorganised · 15/07/2014 16:25

One of the Body Shop Dewberry generation here.

Aapri facial scrub

A little later on, Miners was the supplier of choice for punk makeup - my BF at the time used their Nails for Males range. I think they also did a UV hair mascara which was slightly problematic if it rained...

trevortrevorslattery · 15/07/2014 16:30

fergie bows Grin brilliant

yy that banana conditioner, morello cherry lip balm (so slimy) from body shop. Fuzzy peach too - I can still smell it now.

Natrel - was that the one where the woman turned into a tree on the advert?

Exclamation --Paul Smith Extreme for Women smells like it!

Urgh did anyone have one of those metal things, about 3 inches long, with a little hole in one end for squeezing blackheads? Blergh

Also - anyone remember the wet/dry powder/foundation combination thing from Body Shop too! Made you look lovely and streaky/chalky. There was a little sponge in it and a mirror in the compact. Late 80s/early 90s I reckon.

This thread is great!

Naicecuppatea · 15/07/2014 16:37

Yes I had the blackhead squeezer! The BS banana conditioner was brill.

monsterowl · 15/07/2014 16:39

Wet Ones wipes
Face masks that heated up
Wet look hair gel
Outdoor Girl
Revlon Flex shampoo
Blue/green lipstick that changed to normal colour when you put it on
People 'getting their colours done'
