The new loreal advert for hairspray got me thinking about my school days when Insette was the hairspray of choice. Hair never moved for weeks and you could practically snap it off. Vidal Sassoon that smelled like apples. Constant Carol that only did foundation in orange, oranger and orangist. Care to add yours Smile

stickle I had that brown eyeshadow palette!

I sometimes wish I still had some banana conditioner from the body shop, and a blue corn face scrub - because no one needs skin on their face do they?

I had vanilla fields perfume, smelt like playdoh and all the dewberry body mist. Stinky.

I hope bath pearls no longer exist, little slippery balls of doom, and all the awful paint striped type stuff I put on my face. My mum was right about the glycerine and rosewater, and witch hazel. I should have listened...

Free Style mousse! God I went mad for this stuff, it was the first mousse to be available in the shops and the drawing on the tin was SO trendy.

Vidal Sassoon shampoo, conditioner, gel and hairspray all in matching brown packaging, smelled gorgeous, like coconuts - and they all worked as well, if not better, than products available today!

Lilac shimmer eyeliner that came in a fat pencil, plastered all around the eye, topped off with electric blue mascara

I treasured my frosted pale pink blusher from Next

We used to go on pilgrimages to Birmingham just to worship at the altar of The Body Shop - I had some chamomile shampoo for blonde hair, you had to mix a powder with water yourself and it smelled horrible - and didn't make your hair blonde! Yes yes to the Japanese washing grains, which were a bugger if they got in your eyes

I dream about the scent of Flex shampoo. Yummy!

We used to buy blood purifying tablets from health food shops to cure our spots - they didn't work either

Frosted pinky-white lipstick that made your teeth look yellow

Glitter body spray

GherkinMuncher · 15/07/2014 11:35

Arabian Glow bronzer from Avon was a firm favourite at my school.

growingolddicustingly · 15/07/2014 11:47

Aqua Manda - lovely orangey smelling bath products.

Boots cucumber range of moisturisers and toners

Patchouli oil

White lipstick and kohl eye liner

I am an old gimmer Grin

Sizzlesthedog · 15/07/2014 11:48

So....? Perfume. Glass square bottle with a red round top.

Clean and clear, clearasil. All paint strippers.

I still have my gas heated brush. Not that I ever use it. Was always a bit terrifying when it "lit".

Only1scoop · 15/07/2014 11:50

Constance Carroll....

Body shop dewberry

WhatTheFork · 15/07/2014 12:00

I still have my gas curling brush and some refills. I've not used it for about 20 odd years, but can't bring myself to chuck it out.

My GHDs must be 12 or more years old now. I got them mail order just before the first batch sold out.

Longdistance · 15/07/2014 12:23

Yambabe I'm sure they still sell 4711 in Boots. My mum has a bottle. Just a very citrus perfume. Cologne wasser iirc.

I still use Clean and Clear. I have no wrinkles at 38 as my skin has melted

Flipflops7 · 15/07/2014 12:36

On the last thread like this someone mentioned LEM PAK! Which I had entirely forgotten.

Anyway:

Miners Lip Shiners (my fave was Wild Heather).

That Vidal Sassoon shampoo in the brown bottle that smelled deliciously of almonds cyanide

Coty Chypre perfume, never to return.

There as also a cheaply body spray called ORIENT EXPRESS in a silver-coloured can; I would kill to smell it again.

NameChangerRegMNetter · 15/07/2014 12:50

Lynx spray - Java

Impulse - On fire

discontinued the bastids!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/07/2014 13:10

I still have my Braun gas styler, have you seen what they sell for these days on eBay ??!

Sizzlesthedog · 15/07/2014 13:31

I have a gas Braun hair styler in working order. Anyone want it.

Cocolepew · 15/07/2014 13:49

My friend had Odyssey perfume from Avon, I thought she was very sophisticated. I loved it and, was a mass of seething jealously that my mum didnt buy Avon.

Did anybody else like Mostly Musk from the Body Shop? I used to get it in a tiny plastic bottle and it was an oil you dabbed on. Then it promptly soaked through your clothes leaving a mark that never came off.

My mum gave DD a bottle of Georgio Beverly Hills a few months ago, I still like it Blush.

Longdistance · 15/07/2014 14:31

I've still got my Braun gas hair curler too. I occasionally use it, when I go somewhere posh, to give my hair a bit of a flick and body, rather than a curl. I have hair straighteners (even though my hair is as straight as straw), and I never get on with them.

BestIsWest · 15/07/2014 14:36

Braun gas hair curler. There was a time when I couldn't envisage life without mine.

mandbaby · 15/07/2014 14:50

Some weird blackhead remover. You'd paint on this clear liquid onto your t-zone, leave it to dry then stick some tape on the dried on liquid, rip off and voila!! Masking tape covered in dozens of little black heads and loads of tiny holes in your face.

girlwhowearsglasses · 15/07/2014 14:51

Oh Yes to Rimmel Heather Shimmer. Fist lipstick ever - and I still buy it! Used it yesterday. Honestly is really good. promise I have grown up - am wearing Chanel red today

QisforQcumber · 15/07/2014 14:55

Impulse Vanilla Kisses
Collection 2000 foundation which caked like crazy
Tommy Girl
Loreal Hair Mascaras Grin

RiffyWammal · 15/07/2014 14:57

A girl I knew used to sniff the gas from those Braun stylers! She did it when on holiday with her parents and ended up knocking herself out on the glass doors in the hotel room as I recall.

PhantomTollbooth · 15/07/2014 15:01

Tu and Yvette from Woolies, made by Holloways in Lavenham who also made M&S and Body Shop make up. I worked a powder blue shadow up to the eyebrows and thick black kohl around the eye. Sexy, not.

Bonnie Bell make up remover with the intoxicating smell stench

Jovan Musk and we really did believe the ads that basically said if you wear it you'll all be rutting in the streets like crazed horn dogs Grin.

Shaders & Toners came in towards my early twenties as did Sun in so we all worked the mahogany glow shade aka brilliant orange.

QisforQcumber · 15/07/2014 15:03

My first hair straighteners were those where you filled a tank up. They were removed from my possession after a new carpet burning incident.

I forgot about Revlon Streetwear nail polish that resembled shards of glitter. I loved that crap.

PhantomTollbooth · 15/07/2014 15:04

And I used to buy my jeans then sit in a freezing cold bath of water filled with bleach. I would pour salt onto my jeans, rub it in and then try to wriggle out of them whilst laying flat on a towel covered floor.

They would shrink to the absolute contours of my body and I'd have to do them up laying flat, pulling the zip up with a metal coathanger hook threaded through the zipper.

PhantomTollbooth · 15/07/2014 15:06

And I also bleached my highlights using boiled rhubarb root. Steep the root in water then paint it onto strands with a paintbrush.
