Are you fat?

There are so many threads on here where people say 'I'm a size 8 but I feel flabby' or 'no wonder teenagers have a poor body image when people who are size 16 or 18 think they're big'
I'm a big 16. I am 5 ft nearly 5 and weigh just under 14 stone.
I feel less fat than I did 3 stone ago, I would class myself as chubby but my fatness doesn't turn heads.
So... Do you think you're fat?

OP posts:
HowsTheSerenity · 08/07/2014 01:31

Yes.
170cm tall. 98kg. Wear a UK 14.

AlpacaYourThings · 08/07/2014 01:31

Yes, I have gone up a dress size in the last year and I'm now a size 12.

I feel fat regardless if anyone thinks I am or not.

Pangaea · 08/07/2014 01:33

I'm 5 ft 7 and an 8, weighing 9 stone.

Rationally, I know that I am fine.

But I have a sister who is 6 foot, a size 6, blonde, beautiful and everything magazine perfect.

I've been seeing a lot of her recently and with all her diet/workout talk I feel awful. I couldn't be arsed going to the gym with her earlier in the week, and she jokingly called me a fat bitch.

So no, whilst I don't actually think I'm fat, I am by comparison. And anybody who compares us makes me feel like a whale.

aturtlenamedmack · 08/07/2014 01:34

Yes, 5'10 and size 20/22.
So I'm definitely fat and feel fat, I don't feel bad about it though!

NickiFury · 08/07/2014 01:35

Yes. I'm 5"4 and ten stone and I LOOK awful. I don't carry weight at all well and just look so dumpy. I hate it, makes me really unhappy. I've been quite ill though so not been able to exercise and that's the reason but it's just so hard to shift it after it's on.

everydayaschoolday · 08/07/2014 01:40

Yes. The blinkers are off and I'm being honest with myself and doing something about it.

160cm tall. 12st 12lbs. wear UK 16.

TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 08/07/2014 01:47

5 foot here and about 14 stone. Very heavy, though depends on where I shop for sizing. I don't dress for my figure.no matter what I wear, my proportions are such that I look terrible. Very depressed about my weight. Keep meaning to do something but don't. I gave up a thirty a day smoking habit nearly five years ago cold turkey but I just can't quit food

I'm such an odd shape at the minute I'm 11.2 and 5.10 but I'm carrying all the weight around my middle and huge boobs (still bf) so having to wear size 14 to fit waist and chest. Think if I could lose 10 and it sorted my tummy out I'd be happy with that so I'm in. I've been trying since jan though to lose 10 and am no where near!

vichill · 08/07/2014 06:47

Yes I do. I lost 4 stone 5 years ago and I'm now 10.7 stone 5'9" but feel flabby as I seem to wobble and have an untoned bottom half. I hate that I care and know its pathetic.

I'm 5ft3, weigh almost 8 stone and I'm a narrow-framed size 6-8. I realise that I am not fat and I am unlikely to get fat, but I still often feel it. I was a curvier size 12 when I was a teenager, which was pretty voluptuous for my frame. I've never shaken off being called a fat heifer in PE class.

GretchenWiener · 08/07/2014 06:56

Oh god. All the eating disorders on one thread. You size 12 horror

Fairylea · 08/07/2014 06:57

Well I have days when I think I am and days when I don't really. How weird is that.

I'm 5ft 7 and 12.2 stone. Size 16-18 (would be more of a 16 except for my large boobs and post c section tummy). So I guess I must be fat. But it seems compared to a lot of people now I'm just "average".

I'm still coming to terms with my changing shape.. I used to be a size 8 when in my early twenties and then it's slowly crept up and 2 pregnancies and an underactive thyroid later in my mid 30s here I am.

GretchenWiener · 08/07/2014 06:57

Sigh.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 08/07/2014 06:58

No. I'm a bit flabby round the edges and I've got a couple of skirts in my wardrobe that don't fit, but I've got a BMI in the low twenties and I wear a size 10-12 (size 12-14 in old money). Nobody would recruit me to model bikinis but I'm not fat.

GretchenWiener · 08/07/2014 06:59

I do hope all the size 18+ women thinking of looking for some kind of support on this thread are feeling reassured. Hmm

niceupthedance · 08/07/2014 07:01

I feel bigger than I am I think. Lost a lot of weight but still buying bigger-sized clothes. Had to buy size 10 shorts for holiday and thought it was some kind of joke. I'm 5' 7, 10st 4 with big boobs (and no bum!!)

GretchenWiener · 08/07/2014 07:02

SIZE TEN SHORTS? Fat cah ;)

beccajoh · 08/07/2014 07:02

Not by most people's definition. I'm 5'3 and 9st 6lbs, size 10-12. Medically speaking my body fat percentage is higher than it ought to be at 32%, because I'm small boned.

So yes I'm fatter than is healthy for someone of my build. Day to day when I look in the mirror I don't feel fat though. Bit podgy but not fat.

TheFillyjonk · 08/07/2014 07:02

GretchenWiener Yes, I am recovering from an eating disorder as some of the other "horrors" on this thread might be. I know it must be grating to hear somebody who isn't fat complaining about it, but body dysmorphia is very common. Whatever you think, we are not coming on here to brag about our slimness or fish for compliments.

TheFillyjonk · 08/07/2014 07:04

And binge-eating is also an eating disorder - people can be fat because of eating disorders...

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 08/07/2014 07:04

This is an S&B thread gretchen. It's also a reflection of how people genuinely feel - which varies wildly independently of actual body shape. That's precisely the OP's point. It is very much not a place to come for reassurance and I wouldn't have thought that the title suggests that it is.

GretchenWiener · 08/07/2014 07:04

Bit accepting that size 12 is fat is not right. And I'm sorry for your illness

TheFillyjonk · 08/07/2014 07:09

I don't think a size 12 is fat - I know it isn't and actually, my size 12 body was nicer than what I have now. I have a very high perception of what fat is in other people - often I see a size 24 woman and think she looks beautiful. But my perception of my own body is tainted. Somebody called me fat and I believed I was. It's madness, but that's what eating disorders do to you!
