Are you fat?

There are so many threads on here where people say 'I'm a size 8 but I feel flabby' or 'no wonder teenagers have a poor body image when people who are size 16 or 18 think they're big'
I'm a big 16. I am 5 ft nearly 5 and weigh just under 14 stone.
I feel less fat than I did 3 stone ago, I would class myself as chubby but my fatness doesn't turn heads.
So... Do you think you're fat?

I weigh 8 st 7 lb and am a size 10 or 12 everywhere, but I have a lot of unnecessary fat on me. That isn'y a body dysmorphia thing; it's a fact. I have a flat chest, flabby tummy, large bottom and flabby thighs. I am very, very untoned and don't have much muscle. I am also very, very unfit. I don't feel like myself at all, and I need to do something about it. I have before and I can do it again.

I don't judge anyone eby their size though. I never have. The women in my family are all very diffferent shapes and sizes, which have fluctuated over time. I don't really notice much when someone puts on weight or loses weight, unless its a lot of weight. I just don't see it maybe I should actually wear my contact lenses

Passthecake30 · 08/07/2014 08:58

I'm not fat, 6ft and 10st7, size 10-12, so I'm slim

Sometimes I "feel" fat, but it is usually period/poo related bloating (sorry tmi)

Notmadeofrib · 08/07/2014 09:03

I think it's exercise that seems the key here. I don't wobble.

I'm 169cm (5' 6.5") and 63kg (just under 10 stone so not skinny/light), but I have a medium to large frame, wide shoulders and no rolls of fat on me. I feel trim (ish). I look average I suppose and wear about a 10/12. I'm not skinny but I have muscles not flab. I think I look good in clothes because there are no lumps and bumps.

I have no boobs and I think that makes my first impression seem thinner.
My legs are short and I'd like them longer, but no amount of diet can change that.
I used to hate my body but now I'm happy (and that's after 2 kids)

ConfusedDotty · 08/07/2014 09:09

I feel dumpy even though I know I am not. I am 5'2' weigh 7.10st and I am a size 6, but this time last year I was a size 4 and 7st, after an accident I have had to stop running, I am still careful with food, but it proves to me that excercise works.

I WILL get back to a size 4 again because I am very unhappy at this weight.

LumionaMoonsplash · 08/07/2014 09:11

Yes I am, I'm 16-18. I'm ok with it though as I haven't been a 14 since school. I know how to dress for my shape and work my curves if I can. I've been a 20 and nearly 22 but I can live with 16-18. I feel fat when my tum is bloated and wibbly, when it's flatter I feel slimmer now matter how massive my arse is.

Only1scoop · 08/07/2014 09:12

I am fat
5 ft 6 and 11.7 size 14
Hope to be slightly less fat by end on August....going to wedding and on hol would like to be a 12

StrawberryMouse · 08/07/2014 09:13

I'm 5"5 and 9 stone. Not fat but my hips are quite flabby and I can't wear certain things. I'm much happier half a stone lighter, which sound like nothing but would make a huge difference to the way I look and feel.

Fairyneuf · 08/07/2014 09:23

I'm 5'4'' and 9 stone 6. Not technically fat but I have tummy fat that I'm slowly shifting. After two c-sections I look better in my clothes than out of them Grin

LindaMcCartneySausage · 08/07/2014 09:31

Yes, 157cm/5'1", size 10-12. I feel chubby and lumpy and dumpy after two huge babies.

I ate too much when I was pg and BFing and now I still like gpod food and wine too much. Now I'm in a full time job with no time to exercise more (I cycle and walk to/from work).

I used to be a size 8, with curves. Now I'm a 12 with massive boobs that make me feel matronly, a flabby stomach and lumpen thighs.

BikeRunSki · 08/07/2014 09:37

My sister would say I am, as she equates large with fat.

I wouldn't say I am. I am 170 cm, 12 stone and muscly. Size 12/14. I have a bit of a flabby tum (2 cs, inc 1 crash).

Branleuse · 08/07/2014 09:37

im 5ft 6, 10.st 4.

im pretty curvy, Big tits and arse. Noone would call me skinny, but im not fat either. I think I look pretty good mostly. I think fat is a bit of a shit description anyway. I felt fat when i was thinner than i am now and in the midst of an ED, Its a state of mind

PenelopeGarciasCrazyHair · 08/07/2014 09:38

Yes, I'm a 14-16 at 5'3" and about 13 stone (I'm very solid, so perhaps look like I weigh less than I do).

I lost 2 stone a couple of years ago and was then still a size 14, and was still fat because my 'mum tum' was still there (just saggier being just loose skin rather than padded with fat) and my legs were still like tree trunks - the only difference was I had no boobs to balance it out!

Even when I was a size 10 with a perfectly flat stomach, I thought I was fat, but looking back I now see that I wasn't, but I am fat in my head and regardless of what I weigh or how many compliments I get, I'll always be fat. It just means I buy clothes with a different number in the back.

querolos · 08/07/2014 09:38

I am 5 8 and weigh 11 stone 7. I feel horrendously fat.

MabelSideswipe · 08/07/2014 09:38

No I am not. 5ft 4 and 10 stone with big boobs.

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 08/07/2014 09:42

I think I'm fat compared to my pre baby body.
I used to weigh 7.5-8stone but am now 10. I'm only 5 foot 3 so I think it's quite a lot for my height.

Since being depressed after dc4 I find I'm comfort eating a lot, cakes, chocolate, biscuits. I know it isn't helping matters but I can't seem to help myself especially when af is due it's even worse :(

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/07/2014 09:44

I don't look fat by today's skewed standards.

5 foot 3 and 10 stone.

But I am 33% fat, and have saddle bags and muffin top. I may not be unhealthily overweight, but my body composition is all wrong, and I am definitely over fat...

Rainydayblues · 08/07/2014 09:46

I disagree that exercise is key. I can easily run 10km, I do circuits 3 times a week and that takes care of my heart and builds a bit of muscle, it's bloody hard to build muscle but the layer of fat that wobbles does not suddenly disappear - it still wobbles! There's still a good layer of fat over my strong stomach muscles. Fat does not tone up or disappear with the addition of muscle.
Exercise however is key for health and has added to the shape of my butt which used to be very flat and saggy looking.

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals · 08/07/2014 09:46

Vampyre same here. I know I'm not massive but would like to be considered slim again, rather than 'average' build. I wasn't too keen on being described that way! I just lack the will power to be my 9.5 stone self, even though I know I'd look great at that!

Sleepwhenidie · 08/07/2014 09:56

Some insightful posts here-the ones that jump out are 'fat is a state of mind' and 'I have fat' rather than 'I am fat'..fat does not define who I am.

To those of you who are happy with your bodies, whatever your size, (you lucky women!) could you say why you think you avoided acquiring the much more common dislike or even hatred of your bodies? I know one pp credits exercise, but what about the others, was it your upbringing/mum/environment, or have you changed your attitude somehow after feeling insecure about your bodies before?

coraltoes · 08/07/2014 10:05

I am not fat. 5foot 6 and 8.9 stone. I wear an 8 or 10 depending on cut, often a XS or S. Regardless i think i could look leaner. Would require more exercise but it could be achieved. I am happy though, and comfortable in my skin.

enormouse · 08/07/2014 10:08

I don't think I am. I'm 5ft2, 50kg and a small size 8.

But I'm not completely happy with how I look right now. My stomachs a bit crinkly/saggy looking after DS2 (5 months old). And with the late night wake ups and mostly biscuit/takeaway/tea diet means I don't feel/look great.

I think feeling fat is entirely subjective though. I have a stunning cousin (just shy of 5ft) who slimmed down from a 12 to a 2/4 in an attempt to get rid of what she called side muffin tops.

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 08/07/2014 10:09

animals willpower is definitely the problem for me - I exercise regularly and count calories but some days, I just want to binge and be a huge slob.

yumyumpoppycat · 08/07/2014 10:13

PenelopeGarciasCrazyHair I am the same I don't think it is all in my head either, I look pretty much equally dumpy at 13, 12, 11 stone but then suddenly gaunt if I go under 10.

OneLittleLady · 08/07/2014 10:14

I'm 4'11'' and I'm 13 st 11lbs. This is the smallest I've been for years. I was 16st 9lbs late last year so have lost a fair amount of weight. I'm now a size 14 down from a 22. I've been bigger and I've been smaller but I don't mind any more. I eat well, I don't exercise because I can't and I'm ok with it. A previous poster said they have fibromalgya and I can can sympathize, I have a condition with some similar symptoms and I know the meds and the lack of exercise have such an effect, not only on your body but on your state of mind. It's terrible how many women just don't feel they 'measure up' no matter what their size or weight Sad

Greengardenpixie · 08/07/2014 10:15

mm...i try not to weigh myself. I took a fair bit off when i had my last baby. I am 5ft 5 and not really sure of my weight but reckon i am about 11 stone so im about 1/2 stone more than i should be by healthy weight. I am a 12 though. I dont think that a 12 is 'fat' though. I would like to weigh less but im not unhappy being a 12. Just a loose one!!
When you lose weight and you are older it can give you wrinkles!! I always bare that in mind!!
