Ewa michalak bra sizing

Am about to order a bra, but can't remember if I order my usual size, or one cupsize up. It is the S style I am looking at, and I am a 28G/GG or 30FF/G. Anyone roughly my size ordered that style?

And there is definitely an element of throwing cash at it until you find "the one"when it comes to bras!

SorrelForbes · 30/07/2014 14:31

It took about 4.5 weeks to come and was shipped from Poland via Royal Mail (not sure how that works!) and there was no duty.

I've had it on for about 4 hours now and ouchy, ouch! It's digging in at the sides (where the wire meets the band). Thinking about it, it's the same discomfort I get when wearing my Curvy Kate Elegance plunge so it must be a shape thing! I don't think I can' be arsed to send it back and I really like the shape and the cleavage it gives. It would be really good under a low cut pale dress/top so I'm sure I'll wear it (I wear my Idina loads and that isn't exactly comfy either!).

I measure 29.5" underneath.

I've ordered these direct from Comexim:
MIMI Biustonosz - Black - 65J
ELENA biustonosz HC - Beige - 65J
Laura - Beige - 65J

They're all half cup and balconette shapes so hopefully will be to my liking.

I have the EM CHP Cappucino in a 30GG and it's perfect.

I daren't add up how much I've spent and wasted on completely wrong bras over the years. Terrifying!

hellymelly · 30/07/2014 16:07

I don't find the Idina comfortable either. I like the way it looks, I have the plunge one in nude and the balconnet in black and pink, but the fit isn't great on me (I have 30s, the 28 was really tight) and they cut in at the edges.I don't know if it is a style thing or a cup size thing, I seemed to try several sizes. Annoying as the nude is a nice colour, not too "dead" as some nudes can be. Sorrel if you are 29 and a half and the 30 is fine then hopefully I will be ok with the 28s.

SC I'd like to know how the Meikke fits you. I might order the similar SM cukiereczek, as it is in stock, so I would get it in a week rather than three if I think the fit will be good. As if it seems a lovely fit I will be quite happy to have that and then the Miekke arriving when it has been made.

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 30/07/2014 18:36

OK, try on session complete!

Sm Miekke Bambino 30HH
freya patsy (plunge, not the half cup which I ordered, joys of Debenhams sale!) in 30H in both coral and turquoise
Freya babes in the wood in 30HH
Fantasie celia in 30HH

So, I'm not actually any clearer on my Freya size, cos they all fit! The Patsy is a completely different cup to the babes in the wood (which is more of a "traditional" Freya cut IME. there's only one cup size difference but the wires on the Patsy are a full inch narrower, the gore is about 1.5" lower, the cups are deeper and more open at the top. Still a bit point and not as uplifted as I like but a lovely soft comfortable band, and not nearly as east-west as Freyas of old. If Freya make more like this I'll be buying more from them - Sorrel, if you haven't tried this it's worth a look as whilst I didn't measure the wire felt about the same as the Ewa.

The "babes in the wood" is much more of a typical freya - big wide wires, an almost V neck cut that covers a lot in the bigger cup size, and fairly closed at the top although the lace was relatively stretchy. As a result I couldn't have gone down a cup in this. Not amazing, but I can see me wearing it on slouchy days!

The fantasie - very Freya in cut. This showed the problems I have had with lots of bras as the ribbony bit at the top of the cup was slightly tight, yet I had a bit of spare fabric at the peak of the horizontal seam. Many moons ago when Freya was about the only option I wore a lot of bras that fitted like this as the excess fabric didn't show and it was much comfier a size up. Again lovely and soft (I remember why I like Freya and Fantasie!) but the shape wasn't great so I might send this back. Even in the HH, I reckon I could end up with a bit of bulge happening where the top of the cup meets my chest as I have tissue up to my collar bone.

Finally, Miekke...in a 30HH. Fits like a typical Ewa - not as uplifting as an S style but, well, it's a totally see through bra so I wouldn't expect it to be and the SM generally aren't! The band is nice, like the sort of fabrics on the S rather than the SM so runs normal rather than too tight like most of the SMs. I wasn't 100% sure about the mix of fabrics as the cups are VERY see through so I thought it maybe looked a bit odd. However, DH was VERY quick to reassure me that nope, it does not look odd and I must wear it at all times Blush. It's really nice though, and does actually give pretty good uplift especially given how sheer it is - it's just a bit more of a soft, teardrop type shape rather than the in your face "here come the boobs" look of the S and CHPs.

hellymelly · 30/07/2014 19:34

The Celia looks pretty! I have a coral pink Patsy, but it doesn't fit, mainly because I need a bigger cup- maybe I should try it in a larger size. The Miekke sounds good, I am happy to hear that. I also wondered about the contrast between the band and cup but decided it made the cup look extra delicate. My worry now is that I've just tried on the red EM after washing it, and it is giving me a bit of quad boob-I think the GG would have been better. I really need to lose the extra weight and then judge when i am at my more normal size. I might order a single GG in whatever style they have in stock, to see how it fits on me.

So my Panache Lily (parrot print) and Marcie (pink) arrived this morning and I am still confused as to fit. AAArrggh The saga continues. The Lily- I have the 28GG and the 28H. Back is fine, can't believe I've been wearing 30s for years because the one 28 I tried was freakishly tiny. Cup though, I can't tell which fits me. The GG seems the best at first glance, it is a nice upfront shape, the straps aren't as stupidly short as the other Cleos I've tried. The central gore really digs in at the top though, the wires could be closer together, why is there a gap there? Mad. Anyway, it seems ok otherwise, maybe slightly snug, but under a t-shirt the dreaded quad boob appears, as the bra cuts in a little bit at the top edge. The 28H seems a bit big, the wires feel fine width wise, but there is a tiny bit of slackness in the fabric in the top half of the cup. The edge isn't gaping though, it is sitting flat, and under a tight t-shirt this looks a nice fit and shape. I'm not mad on the day-glo orange straps, and the central wires have left me red, but maybe this is the best of the two? Not sure. Next the Marcie-28GG. The wires are as wide as the H in the Lily, they are fine, they sit closer together at the front which I prefer. I still find them slightly high at the front but they don't dig in as much as the Lily. The bra looks as though it is squashing my breasts a bit, there is a lot of weight on the straps ,which again are quite short. Not digging in at the top edge though, and a nice round shape. Under a tight t-shirt though this is a really nice shape, it looks better than I imagined. The straps are right at the edge of my shoulders, why are straps such a problem? Wish I had ordered the H to compare so may do that today. So I am still unsure if my Cleo size is 28GG or H, it doesn't help the wires are wider in one bra than the other. I think I will find the Marcie more comfortable than the Lily because of the width of the central gore, but its hard to tell until they have been worn for a while.
Not sure what to keep.

OP posts:
hellymelly · 01/08/2014 10:59

I hope that is coherent, I am rambling a bit as I have a headache.

OP posts:
SorrelForbes · 01/08/2014 11:06

I'd say that the 28H Lily sounds a better fit. I too get a bit loose material at the top of the cup with the Lily and the Meg (same cut) but scooping helps and I'd rather have that than quad-boob. Cleos are very stiff bras and do tend to need a bit of 'breaking in' so the digging in may be temporary. I sometimes gently bend the wires (in the central gore area) outwards away from my body which helps.

The Marcie is a great bra and it sounds like the 28GG is fine for you. The Lily is more of a closed in style so it makes sense that you might need a bigger cup in that one. Unfortunately many, many people need different sizes in the same brand (annoying!). I'm lucky in that (so far, touch wood) I'm the same size in all Cleo bras.

If I'm dithering about a bra I find that wearing it for at least a couple hours usually helps me make up my mind.

hellymelly · 01/08/2014 11:22

Thanks Sorrel. I'm wearing the Marcie now to see how it feels to move around in. There is a tiny bit of a bulge now at the cup edge, but nothing too bad. I may order a 28H just to be able to compare the fit. I like the roundness of the cups, but when I'm just in the bra it looks as though the fabric is straining in parts of the cup. But I'm wearing a clingy t-shirt and it is fine under that apart from the slight bulge at the top edge.

OP posts:
SorrelForbes · 01/08/2014 11:25

Hmmm, I think you're right, a 28H could be better. If so, then I think we could say that your Cleo size is a 28H, which means that you're my bra sister as I'm a 30GG Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/08/2014 11:26

I'd maybe get the h in the marcie for comparison but I'd agree with sorrel that the house in the lily sounds pretty good. My view on small amounts of loose fabric is a) does it show through clothes and b) does it reduce tge support. If not,. I don't worry

hellymelly · 01/08/2014 11:33

Ok have ordered a 28H just to make sure, I can then exchange it for the GG if it is too big.

OP posts:
hellymelly · 01/08/2014 11:39

Made me laugh that we are bra sisters (Sistas? ) Do we have some initiation rite? Pinging elastic in unison at dawn? Burning all our useless bras in a ritual pyre?

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 02/08/2014 08:02

The bonus if marcie works is that there is going to be a black and a beige released soon so they could be good basics

hellymelly · 02/08/2014 11:25

Well the 28H Marcie arrived this morning, and although it is ostensibly the better fit (no straining of the fabric of the cup, very slightly loose at the cup edge at first but that gone once I tightened the straps) the cups are so wide that they cut into the shoulder/ armpit. Not as badly as the Minnie but not comfortable. The straps are right on my shoulder edge too. It is as though they use the same cup throughout the range, not adapting it for smaller back sizes other than the band being smaller. The cup needs to be a good inch narrower at the shoulder edge for it to fit me nicely. So of the two the GG was more comfortable, but my breasts are a bit squashed in it. I need a GG and a half! I don't think I could wear this, although the cup fits nicely in every other way. More coverage than the GG, it is more of a full cup on me, but no loose fabric. Just the bloody annoying digging in at the sides. Grrrrr. I might try wearing it for half an hour and see if it drives me mad or not.

OP posts:
hellymelly · 02/08/2014 13:02

Any other styles I should try that may be skimpier in the cup, or have straps that are more appropriately sited for a small back?

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 02/08/2014 14:30

And then you have to factor in breast variance during the month which means that sometimes you're a bit bigger or smaller too (or is that just me!) so a bra that fits one day doesn't the next!

I'd do the longer try on just to see - it is a really common problem with smaller back sizes and bigger cups that the straps can be problematic. TBH, there is an element of getting used to it, the first time I wore a Cleo the straps really annoyed me where as they don't bother me now. It's like the skin near my armpit has toughened up a bit! But I realised I didn't have much choice as it happened with almost every bra in my size.

hellymelly · 02/08/2014 15:16

I'll give it a try for half an hour then, see if it isn't as bad as I think! If anything rubs that triggers hives on me so that might be a problem if it is too close to the armpit, even if I can get used to it. Maybe I need to try and alter the straps, cut away some of the cup.

HalleLouja · 03/08/2014 08:58

So thanks to this thread I bought the parrot bra in 30G.

I think I need the size up though not sure. Doesn't give me four boobs but seems to be slightly short at the sides. Looks nice underneath clothes but not sure if 30GG would swamp me. Was comfortable and am keeping it.

Also bought the panache Isobel bikini in 30GG and it fitted really well and was bargainous. They didn't have the 30G.

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/08/2014 09:02

It could be you need another cup, but it might also be a style thing -the lily doesn't have nearly as much upper cup coverage at the outside as many other styles

HalleLouja · 03/08/2014 09:33

Which other styles would be worth a go if I liked the lily but needed a bit more coverage? Liking the Me and My Curves site.

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/08/2014 09:51

I don't wear much Panache except cleo - I love the Marcie which is a slightly different cut but still fairly open. Sorrel wears and loves the panache Idina balconette, and I've heard good things about the panache jasmine too

hellymelly · 03/08/2014 12:57

Don't think I can wear the Marcie in the 28H, even though the cup is the better fit. The straps rub against my armpittoo much, and it is hard to move my arms forward, as it digs in horribly when I do. Am wearing the GG now and it is not a problem with this one, but I am slightly spilling over the cup. I dream of going to Paris and getting a bra made to fit at Cadolle. Think I might actually start saving up. They believe the strap should sit above the nipple, which on me would be the perfect place, as the current wide straps are driving me mad. Years and years ago, just out of my teens, i had a Lejaby bra. I had to take in the back (the smallest they did then was a 32) but it was the most comfortable bra I have ever had. I was probably a 26FF or G at the time. The cup was round and natural shaped, the straps above my nipple, and it didn't do the East /West thing that all other full cups seem to do on me. It was also tomato red very delicate netty lace. I wish I could find something like that now, but all the bras in my size have the straps right at the very edge, so they fall off my shoulders all day, or dig in to my armpit and shoulder. I am constantly hoiking my straps, and I don't have sloping shoulders, just the straps are too wide.
I am trying to work out how much Cadolle would cost......
Or maybe i can get Comexim to sort something out, I need someone who speaks Polish!

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 03/08/2014 16:25

It is a real problem. Balconettes need the straps to be wide set to support the cups, but on big cup small back that becomes an issue, but when they're closer set that changes the line of the cup and they basically become a plunge (I've moved the straps on a CHP and that's what happened).

Plunges are generally less troublesome for the strap placement - how are you getting on with your S style Ewa? The straps on those don't bug nearly as much IME.
