Ewa michalak bra sizing

Am about to order a bra, but can't remember if I order my usual size, or one cupsize up. It is the S style I am looking at, and I am a 28G/GG or 30FF/G. Anyone roughly my size ordered that style?

OP posts:
SorrelForbes · 11/07/2014 20:34

StatisticallyChallenged gets on very well with the S shape which sounds like it could suit you too. I stick with the CHP style as I like a very 'cakes on a plate' look!

EM seem to have improved their sizing so these days I would probably order my usual Panache/Cleo size (30GG) so probably best to stick with the 36G or GG. Which bras currently fit?

MangoBiscuit · 11/07/2014 21:29

These M&S t-shirt bras, in a 36GG. (I thought I had them in a G, but I just checked, they're GG) They're the only things I've found in the last 5 months that offer support, don't skewer my armpits, and don't give me double boobs.

After extensive googling, cakes on a plate is that corset type cleavage, yes? All smoothly rounded over the top? Like with a balcony bra? I like that, I used to wear balcony bras all the time until I had DD2 and my boobs didn't shrink back to their previous size. Anything balcony style that I've tried on in shops seems to struggle to hold me in place. Choices to try on in shops at GG cup sizes are very limited though. I dislike full cup styles as they make me feel frumpy. 3/4 cups often pull in in the wrong place and either give me double boobs, or a weird triangular shape.

This is the right sort of shape for me, but sadly doesn't come in my size. I tried a slightly too small one on in store, and it was so nearly right, but just not to be. Was in the sale too, I could have cried! Grin

SorrelForbes · 11/07/2014 21:38

A balconette style that's struggling to hold you in place is probably too small in the cup. I find them much easier to get a good fit with than moulded t-shirt or plunge styles

That JL bra looks quite nice (it's too small in the cup for the model though). Have you tried any Freya or Panache half cups? The EM CHP style might work too as may some of the Bravissimo half cups.

BTW, M&S frequently miss out double letters so you're 36GG bras may really only be 36G (FF was missed).

MangoBiscuit · 11/07/2014 21:58

I've only tried Freya Deco, and didn't like the shape it gave me at all. I think I'll order a CHP style in a 36G and see how I get on. Thank you.

SorrelForbes · 11/07/2014 22:03

The Freya Deco is a padded, moulded plunge style t-shirt bra. It's hard to fit (as are many similar bras) as it doesn't mould to your shape IYSWIM? The Freya half cups are different ins style bth I don't get on with any Freya or Fantasie bras. They all give me the East/West look and not enough lift!

hellymelly · 11/07/2014 22:09

I also get the East/West thing with Freya, and not much lift, but they are my default bra as they are easy to get hold of and I know roughly what size I need, usually, although that seems to have gone to pot lately.

SorrelForbes · 11/07/2014 22:46

These days I really only wear Cleos (Juna, Bella, Marcie, Meg, Minnie etc.), Panache Idina balconette and EM CHP and CH styles. I own a Curvy Kate Elegance plunge for low cut dresses and a Wonderbra Ultimate Strapless and that's about it.

StatisticallyChallenged · 11/07/2014 22:52

I mainly wear Cleo and EM too. The Ewa S and PL styles are definitely the best for very close set boobs as their central gore is so narrow and comfortable.

In terms of Ewa sizing I ignore their chart. I wear a 30HH in them, I'm a 30HH or J occasionally in Bravissimo brand, 30HH in most Freya, 30H in most Cleo and panache so that gives you an idea. Their SM styles can run smaller in the band because they are made from lace which stretches less, although I have their new SM Bambino on order which is a hybrid with a proper fabric back and see through cups so will see what thats like

hellymelly · 11/07/2014 23:18

I have the Panache Idina in the balconette and plunge, neither fit me very well! Both seem a bit small in the cup, they dig in at the edges, where they have stretchy elastic trimming. The balconette is set too far apart for me and gives me no uplift, even the plunge seems too far apart . This was a problem when I was smaller , but as I now need a bigger cup size it seems more and more of an issue, as if the cups get bigger towards the sides, and now sit more under my arms. I have spent so much money on bras that don't fit, I feel fed up about it now, as though I am a strange shape, as nothing seems right. Maybe the cleo will be fine, I hope so, but I ordered a 28GG, so perhaps the sizing will be wrong. I am now waiting for 6 bras to arrive, I am worried not one will fit me !

OP posts:
hellymelly · 11/07/2014 23:24

The SM bambino looks really pretty, with the dotty fabric sides.

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 12/07/2014 07:39

There is a ridiculous amount of trial and error to finding 'your' bras. I still experiment but I know that an unpadded Cleo -not Lucy shaped -will always work, as will an em s or pl. Comexim seem pretty reliable, and for a more retro type shape I like some of the bravissimo own brand balconettes but they do give me a more pointy look. But there are some outfits that really works for.

hellymelly · 12/07/2014 13:05

I long to find the perfect style and fit for me. I am hoping the EM S shape will alos work for me as we have similar issues with fit and size. The Freya iginte arrived this morning, and the Deco. The Ignite is a day-glo greenish yellow, rather than the 50s yellow it looked in the pics, so the colour looks terrible on me (pale celtic person). Would look amazing with dark skin . Fit wise the 28GG seems fine I think but the central wires were digging in and really uncomfortable. So that is a no. And perhaps I do need to also try an H to compare. The deco is strange, it sort of fits, it looks ok, not too East/West, but it is somehow hard to tell if it is too big or too small. The bulky edge shows through clothes, there is a very slight gap at the top near the strap, and it gives me a wonderbra type cleavage which might be ok in low cut tops but feels a bit too pushed about for general day wear. it also gapes at the top of the band, under my arm, on the loosest hooks, even a little bit on the medium hooks, so all the support in the band is from the bottom ring of elastic, which isn't madly comfortable. If the cups weren't so rigid that would be even more of a problem. The front wires sit slightly away from my body at the top of the gore. Nice colour though! (Emerald green). I get that band gaping on a lot of bras, I think my ribs are quite straight, they don'y get any wider over that couple of inches where the band sits, and yet band often are quite a bit wider at the top edge than the underbust edge, if that makes sense!
I think you should open a lovely bra Salon where women can come and be fitted and get advice, there used to be a wonderful woman in Bath who did that, but the business doesn't seem to exist any more. They made bras but also could source them from all over Europe. Everyone raves about Rigby and Peller but I found them terrible, my first time there, in my early 20s, they fitted me into a 32DD, which even though there were no 30s to speak of then, was still huge around the back, I measured 25.5" at the time. I ended up having to tie the bra band in a knot! Then when I was pregnant they found me one solitary bra, which was again too big around the back, a 34, when a 32 would have been fine, and they were almost stroppy that there wasn't anything else to fit me. Actually my local little lingerie shop is good at fitting, just that it is a small shop so they can't get in lots of styles and sizes.

OP posts:
hellymelly · 12/07/2014 13:07

I tried the Bravissimo "Dotty spot" balconette last week, but it was too small in the 28GG and seemed a really strange shape on me, but perhaps that was just because it didn't fit. It somehow squashed my breasts top and bottom, rather like someone honking a big rubber ended car horn.

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 12/07/2014 16:08

The Dotty Spot is a very different shape - it's much more friendly to bottom heavy boobs. I quite like the Betsy Bow.

Deco: I have a deco, in a 30GG which is a bit smaller than my normal size. I don't wear it as a day to day bra, it's my "make DH's eye's pop out their sockets" bra. However, that's only because it is actually a bit too small - if it fitted it would be flapping around in random places. Freya wires also aren't as sturdy as either bravissimo, panache or ewa so they are more prone to gaping at the top of the gore even if they tack at the bottom. It's one of the reasons I prefer Cleo even though they have high gores.

hellymelly · 16/07/2014 15:18

AAArggh. The saga continues. The Cleo Minnie arrived this morning, It seems slightly small in the cup, which I don't understand, as SC, you find you need a cupsize down in Cleo, so I was expecting it to be too big. It feels more like a 28G maybe. Anyway, it is only on the edge of small, hard to say without trying the H too. Back is fine (28GG). The shape of the cup (As predicted by you, SC and sorrel) is really good for me, much less matronly than the shape I generally get, more like the shape I got when I was younger and thinner and a couple of cup sizes smaller. The one huge problem is the straps, they are really wide, right at the edge of my armpit, so it is uncomfortable to move my arms forward, I can't wear the bra. The straps also have padding that doesn't quite hit where padding should go, probably because I am tallish. So what to try now? I got a Freya Gem in a 28GG, that is a bit too big in the cup, and not anywhere near as good a shape as the Minnie. I don't know what to exhange it for, or whether to get a refund and buy the EM bambino!

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 16/07/2014 15:47

The cleos can vary size wise on different breast shapes -I'm a bit more full on top than sorrel I think so I take a size down where she doesn't.

Strap positioning can be a real pain when you have a narrow back and larger cup -they just don't get it right at all, and it's an issue across most brands.

My ewa chp straps are a bit too wide for me although I have actually moved them in the past. The s, sm and pl are better and I would say closer set than Cleo. The other random option to consider is trying something from kris line on brastop. Ignore the faintly porno picture styles and they run small in band and cup.

I suspect that em or comexim may be your winners tbh.

hellymelly · 16/07/2014 17:25

I will try a Krisline bra. May as well, am trying everything else!( Should I go up to a 30H do you think?) I don't get the strap position thing, why don't they sort it out? They make the cups wider and wider, but leave the straps right at the edge of the cup, whereas it is common sense that if you need a 28 back you aren't going to have very wide shoulders.
The cup on the Cleo was slightly cutting in at the top trim on me, but the shape was great, so annoying about the straps. I am looking forward to my EW S Truskawki z malinami, really hope I ordered the right size. i went for 30G as then I can exchange it.
I agree that probably I will be best off with EW and Comexim bras. I am going to order something from Comexim later.

Oh and to add to my bra woes, I was about to return the Deco, when I saw that my puppy had eaten the tags off it, leaving slobbery marks on the bra.

OP posts:
MangoBiscuit · 18/07/2014 15:43

Oh no! Sorry but I had to giggle at puppy slobbery marks! Oops.

I ordered 2 EM bras, and 3 from House of Fraser to try. Got an email to say there's a 14 day delay on my EM order. None of the HoF ones fit (2* Untold - flimsy waste of time, Fauve - beautiful, but the wires were so far round they were almost to my back) One of my only two bras that fit has just broken (underwire has popped through) so I'm now down to just one bra I can use, and we go on holiday next week. I'm going to have to trek around town on Monday, with two hot, grumpy children, and try to find something I can wear. I hate bra shopping at the best of times. Any suggestions for in-store brands? I should be able to get to Debenhams, a small M&S and a John Lewis. (Also La Sensa and Boux Avenue, but neither went up to 36G last time I checked)

hellymelly · 18/07/2014 18:11

I love my puppy but she is a demon for chewing things. The bra is actually a 30G, either I pressed the wrong button or they sent the wrong one, so that explains the gaping. Anyway it doesn't fit me properly, so if anyone wants an Emerald green Deco bra, 30g, only slightly salivated on by a puppy- it has now been washed- then PM me and I will post it to you, otherwise I'll put it in the charity shop. This is the hairy beast in all her glory.

A 30G deco bra you say. I might be interested.

Bra gurus. I went to Bravissimo and bought their Dixie bra in 30G do you think this may work for me? The dixie gave them a great shape. Was quite surprised. Was better than the other bras I tried on there.

hellymelly · 18/07/2014 19:02

HalleLouja, I will happily post the bra to you if you pm me your details.

I had four bras from Bravissimo arrive today, the Juno 28GG, the Meg 28H, Sweet medley ( a bravissimo own brand plunge)28GG and the Laurel 30GG. The Juno was the best fit of the lot but a bit small in the cup, I am spilling out at the top with a lot of jiggle if I jump about. The Meg was far too big in the cup, whereas the Melissa I have is a bit small in a cupsize smaller, so maybe cleo is just not quite right for me as I fall between the sizes? The Sweet Medley was far too small in the cup and pretty tight in the band, and the Laurel was a strange shape on me and really uncomfortable. I am not sure whether to keep the Juno. I tried the Maddie last week I think , anyway it was so wide that again I couldn't move my arms forward, it cut right into my armpit. And all the panache straps on 28 bras seem far too short for me, they only just fit on the longest setting, what is that about? I am tallish, but my breasts are not down by my waist or anything!
My Ewa bra has been sent to me so I eagerly await it, esp as literally nothing else seems to fit me properly.
If a Juno 28gg is slightly small, but a Meg 28H too big in the cup, what might fit me?

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 26/07/2014 23:30

Now, I have Meg (is it the bird print one?) and strangely had to size down in it - it's a size smaller than my Melissa. So I have a 30GG Meg, and my other Cleos are a 30H so I wouldn't rule anything out based on it. I would say if you are spilling out of Juna try the 28H.

Maddie is very different, it's very wide and shallow, I tried it and the fitter in Bravissimo took one look and went "nope, that is never every going to work on you!"

hellymelly · 27/07/2014 12:31

Isn't that strange about the Meg? It isn't the bird print, it is this one www.bravissimo.com/products/sale/lingerie/sensational-sets/meg-bra/coral-print/cl110cpr/?criteria=meg I really like the bird print one, but have only seen it on ebay, so wanted to be sure of the fit first. Why is the sizing so inconsistent ? Maybe I should risk one off ebay in the 28Gg as they have sold out at Bravissimo. It was a pretty colour. The Maddie was so wide I can't imagine who it would fit. And I tried the Tutti Rouge one again in a 30 GG but it was still far too shallow, and very small in the back, it fitted like a small 28, so wouldn't have fitted anyone bigger than a 27". The cups are really wide but very flat, but with this teeny tiny back. Really pretty bra, so a shame. Do these companies not have fit testers?
