Does the new Boden catalogue make anyone else want to kill themselves?

It's my own fault for getting it I know. But I doubt I'll ever be able to afford anything from it, all the lovely skirts and shirts and sweaters and winter coats. And all the lovely buffed facialed skin and styled hair.

Piffle - am hoping the Spring catalogue is good because by then I'll be desperate to start shopping for normal clothes again (albeit in a bigger size).

puddle · 06/09/2006 13:58

One good thing about Boden (and the thing that makes me feel better about buying it) is that the resale price on ebay is v good.

I only buy the children's stuff though - tops are too short and square for me and a lot of it is frumpy pretending to be funky.

Kaloo20 · 06/09/2006 14:09

lol - ladies tops are often 100% with no stretch/shape to them - you're right about the frumpy/funky thing too.

MB is far better

SoupDragon · 06/09/2006 14:10

I hate Next too.

SoupDragon · 06/09/2006 14:11

Oh, and I don't much like Monsoon's children's stuff either

ShowOfHands · 06/09/2006 14:20

Thanks for the tip off about Holkham Hall Cupcakes. I'll be the one languishing in a terribly middle class fashion against a tree whilst my adorable family and extremely well behave pet frollick playfully through the grounds.

alexsmum · 06/09/2006 14:23

i can't believe that you have all so merrily gone on to talking about boden instead of picking on kaloo for being a bitch.

don't like adult boden and find mini boden boys clothes a bit dreary and teenagey and over-priced.also don't like most of next boys stuff this season-too many badges on everything.

hulababy · 06/09/2006 14:38

I like a few bits from the new Mini Boden - think iw ill be orderting DD a skirt and some trousers from there. And DH has just undered a wool sweater from the men's catalogue. I have seen a couple of skirts I like (but sure if worth £50-70 price tags, but nothing blows me away. And some of it is a bit twee and old fashioned isn't it?!

alexsmum · 06/09/2006 14:45

that's it.nothing in there makes you say'oh that's lovely!' it's all ok ish. plus ds1's teacher who is 50+ wears quite a bit of boden-the 'fun skirt' is one i've noticed.
amd it is so expensive. so very expensive.in a way that isn't justified by the fabrics or whatever.

hulababy · 06/09/2006 14:46

Agree that Boden is definitely a lot dearer than Next, and jut slightly dearer then Monsoon.

ChristmasIsShoite · 06/09/2006 14:49

I either really like or really hate their stuff.

Ordered dh a jacket from there a couple of months ago and he cried with laughter when he saw it.

I check out stuff in their shop first now before ordering.

aDAdOnMumsnet · 06/09/2006 14:52

Strangely just posted on another thread about how much I hate Boden mens clothes. Never seen anything in there that i would wear!

Mini-boden stuff can be quite cute though I think.

florenceuk · 06/09/2006 14:55

Trouble with Boden is their patterns are so distinctive, you can't help but notice them. Embarrassing moment when my boss and I turned up in the same spotty jersey shirt this summer - whoops! But I did buy a double-layer jersey top and a scoop neck top - both priced very similarly to Kew which is perhaps their closest competitor in price/target group. Kew's skirts are probably better value - they have a nice swirly crinkly wool one in the stores at the moment.

expatinscotland · 06/09/2006 14:56

I hate Monsoon. The shops are always laid out awkwardly. Also reminds me of this expat I knew who was a bitch extraordinnaire - one of those who boasts constantly and was always on about her kid's Monsoon wardrobe. So? Mine was still prettier .

hulababy · 06/09/2006 14:58

I like Monsoon for me. The fit seems good, and they do petite. Love some of the children's things too but can't justify the cost for DD!

florenceuk · 06/09/2006 15:00

Alexsmum - I suspect that older women wear Boden because it goes up to those "bigger" sizes whereas a lot of the more fashionable labels don't. But if you compare Boden to Monsoon or Kew they are not absurdly priced. And they are cheaper than Hobbs or Jigsaw...

I think everything in the boden catalogue is rubbish and made for mummies with no imagination....

monkeytrousers · 06/09/2006 15:17

That's me Beety!

Hate those kids in catalogues too!

I think we all forget that Kids clothes should be just that, KIDS CLOTHES!

Its the parents that are targeted by catalogue companies, not the kids.

My kids,(I am unhappy to say) wear lots of Boden etc but ARE starting to rebel

I give dd1 another year then she will be sending the stuff back herself!

(Looking over should for MrsA)

monkeytrousers · 06/09/2006 15:40

If anyone wants to get rid of their Boden cast offs size 12-14 I've just started a thread in wanted

OP posts:
alexsmum · 06/09/2006 16:38

the teacher with the boden skirt is very petite-about 5ft nothing and maybe a size8/10?

Enid · 06/09/2006 16:39

this thread makes me lol

its a CATALOGUE that SELLS stuff of course all the models are gorgeious

LieselVonTrapp · 06/09/2006 16:47

I agree with you too Fimbo I was saying that for waht you would pay in Next you'd be much better with Boden

multitasker · 06/09/2006 16:54

Only thing I liked in it was jumper with elbow patches, and figure with £10 off its resonable.
