Here we are crepeys - Friday 13th!

Congrats NU - how lovely! Hope you get your granny babycuddles soon.

Strops - a "scuba" skirt is made of the same thick stretchy stuff that wetsuits are made of (well, maybe not quite that thick). They hold you in beautifully, with no lumps, bumps or knicker-lines, and they hang much better than the usual jersey tube skirts. I bought one last year from Asda, of all places, and have worn I a lot.

I'm on the fence maxi-skirt-wise. I have a cheapo one I bought from Peacocks but I rarely wear it - just too much swishy fabric going on. Maxi-dresses feel like nighties to me.

Beachy - we are off to Cornwall straight after the schools break up (last week in July), eventually ending up in St Ives. What about you? No danger of bumping into us at a campsite, though. Wink

BD - Boden have a good sale on at the moment, and do free postage and returns, so if you fancy the dress, order two and send one back. I would say it was pretty true to size (I have a 10).

Anyway, must go and see what falls out of the fridge that requires minimum effort prepare the dinner. We are waiting for DD1 to return from the cinema where she has gone to see, yes, you guessed it, The Fault in Our Stars.

bigTillyMint · 26/06/2014 19:10

Stropps, I reckon most schools would snap up voluntary extra help - I know we do! Definitely ask around.

My maxi-skirt has come. I may wear it tomorrow! CV I like the sound of scuba skirts holding you in. Unlike DD who looks fabulous in her size 6 bodycon dress!

cremolafoam · 26/06/2014 19:13

NU many congratulations on the arrival of the new grandchild. A lovely summer baby. Dsis was working in neo-natal today( is a student midwife)
And was looking after a 1lb baby born at 26+ . Amazing. I was just under 5lb myself at FT and have been a porker since 1966. SmileBlush

Many loverly dresses on her today. I am loving my Birkis but am going to sell the Clarks ones I think. Not v comfortable sadly.

Ddad has had a rotten day. He had a dye test to see if they could get a stint into a heart valve. Looking bad as consultant doesn't think he will be able to do the op( furry arteries)
Mum vv upset todaySad

bigTillyMint · 26/06/2014 19:15

Cremo, you are not a porker! Sorry to hear your bad news - poor mumSad

cremolafoam · 26/06/2014 19:55

Aargh dmum just phoned to say they are now going to clear the artery next week. Poor papa:0(
And she's upset me now too over some other nonsense. Apparently I'm making dd feel like she has to move out and that I'm clearing her room and making her feel unwanted.
And we must all impress upon her that this will always be home

Am, I was just cleaning her room .
I haven't put it on gumtree yet ...

Lost in translation and shock I suppose
Confused

NUFC69 · 26/06/2014 21:51

Crem, hope that they can sort out your DDad at the hospital.

It's difficult, isn't it, about clearing/cleaning out with DC. What to us is just tidying up/removing the detritus of school is seen to them to be a major overhaul of their lives, when it really isn't. I guess DD is feeling a little fragile ATM and wondering about her future. We still have some of DD's things here (including her wedding dress, but that's another story) - quite often they don't want rid of things, but neither do they want to store them.

cremolafoam · 26/06/2014 22:15

NU that's it exactly. More so with dds background I think. But my dmum presented it as if would never have occurred to me.Shock I am only too aware of the potential upset.
Gah.
And breathe.

BTM oink oink

lalsy · 26/06/2014 22:48

Crem Shock. And breathe indeed.

NU, I hope you get to see your little dgs tomorrow.

originalpiratematerial · 26/06/2014 22:57

Congratulations NUFC!

Went to the book launch tonight - first novel by someone I was at school with - he was in my little sister's year, so three years below me, although he had a brother in the year below me. VERY weird. Last time I saw him, 30 years ago, he was the same age my oldest son is now - 15. And of course there were all sorts of degrees of separation. I spent ages talking to his ex-MIL, who was fascinated that I'd known his brother, and indeed his mum and nan (I went to his nan's funeral). She hadn't told her dd that she was coming to the book launch as apparently dc's current DH is very jealous about the ex! Anyway it was a lovely evening, although very thought provoking.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 26/06/2014 23:39

I want you all to have learned the words to this by tomorrow night:

the crepeys anthem

Got that? Grin

Congratulations NUFC, hope you get lovely baby cuddles soon.

Auriga · 27/06/2014 00:50

MrsS, thank you, I've just adopted that as my Official Birthday Anthem.

NUFC69 · 27/06/2014 06:01

MrsS, I just love that, particularly the Sound of Music take off bit - it's buzzing around in my head.

bigTillyMint · 27/06/2014 06:19

Love it, MrsSGrin

Me too. I lost to Lear. Shafted by Shakespeare. Barbed by the bard.

But this means I have a clear pass out to the next, possibly North of the River, crepe-up.

In maxi-skirt news, during DS's drama class I dashed out to our local mall. It has slim pickings - New Look, River Island, Dotty P's and a BHS. I tried on a couple of maxi skirts with gathers at the waistband, and they made me look VAST.

So I got a straight black number, and its equivalent in cobalt and white stripes. Sounds unwise, on those well arse-endowed such as myself, but surprisingly OK.

Auriga · 27/06/2014 08:50

Have a lovely evening everyone. Sorry I can't join you. We need another one soon.

Walk on the common this morning: chicory starting to bloom. I love this time of year.

BD, sad not to be meeting you tonight and Lalsy and everyone else who can't come too.

Can I just say that mentions (I think some of these, but not all by Crem) of age 4 knickers turning up and dripping taps and chipped plates just warms me in my heart. Please, if any of these things are in your home, embrace the fact it means that life is being lived and don't worry about it because I ain't going to.

Auriga, impressed you recognise chicory. I will google. I think after my brown rice fusili comment I ought to recognise chicory.

Mrs S love the 'Older ladeeees' chorus and it was fun but I would like another version where the sentiment was more to do with 'I'm like this, that the other, is it that what it is that makes you fancy me so much?' I still have to swat DH off several times a week despite the full tick box list of middle age body horrors especially when I'm bending over to empty the dishwasher in my zebra onesie for some reason

I'm very flattered by it actually - good for self esteem, soul etc. Doesn't often get him anywhere, obviously.

Oh and BTM the pasta was ordered from Amazon in a pack of 6 - so was a high risk move! I'm doing big overhaul of diet which I will throw to the winds later.

wordassociationfootball · 27/06/2014 10:13

Oh and Crem sorry about dad and that sounds quite wounding what your mum said that DD said but I don't suppose she meant it, and deffo wouldn't expect it passed on, it was just one of those rather dramatic complaints that DC make to aunty/granny without expecting it to get back to us. I guess your mum's filter not working properly at mo.

wordassociationfootball · 27/06/2014 10:14

My mum's filter is bust.

Right, am talking to self here. Onwards Grin

cremolafoam · 27/06/2014 10:29

Thanks Waf , you are on the button.
And thanks for kind words re slovenly ness .
Emotions running high with shock and change. We are familialy hopeless at embracing change.

Calmer this morning . Must have been a full moon or something. Dd having another wretched period. Both she and I have decided to get her on the pill.
Seems the right thing to do at this point. < practical>
