Howdy folks.
Beachy, how awful. Much sympathy re ddog. I can't bear to think of having to do the same for ours. When she was in the dog hospital (visiting hour 6 - 7pm only) for 5 days it was terrible. Ds2 and I used to go and see her every evening then sniff all the way home. have a not so manly hug. Crap about work too of course.

Glad to hear the birthday took a turn for the better Auriga!

Looking forward muchly to the "delicious cocktails and food" Mrs S and to hearing about new career opps in India (maybe).

Am rather weary here - gearing up for yet another far flung Open Day on Saturday - when actually loafing about appeals much more... oh well, only four (4, IV) more to go...

QueenQueenie · 25/06/2014 15:34

Blimey, massive x post fail there Herbs!
How exactly does one have a lesbian affair of a non sexual nature? Just asking....! I won't run away screaming - I feel strangely complimented - but I would if Angus Deayton came anywhere near me. Know him slightly and .

Re the wheat business - I used to think that wheat free did me a lot of good but have come to realise it's low carb that is the thing - it's the sugar in every form that i need to avoid.

bigTillyMint · 25/06/2014 15:36

I find it really hard to give up anything, it all has to be a happy medium (or large!)

herbaceous · 25/06/2014 15:37

I think (details are hazy) that we'd meet up, but no-one was allowed to know. There wasn't anything rude going on.

I'm pretty sure it is the wheat. I've had sugar in other forms, and it doesn't bring on stomach ache or squitty arse. Though think it may also be implicated in my red face.

Stropperella · 25/06/2014 16:29

I'm with BTM - I'm not much good at giving up stuff completely (unless consuming it meant instant hospitalisation/death), esp. not sugar and wheat . I'm afraid alcohol does me no favours whatsoever with regard to rosacea, puffiness, sleeping issues, mood disorder and an assortment of other symptoms, but although I have the odd dry week I've not really any intention of giving it up at the moment. Even though I occasionally think I should. I now sometimes recall an (older) acquaintance of mine saying many years ago that someone she knew gave up alcohol for a month and then looked 10 years younger. Hmm

beachyhead · 25/06/2014 16:31

Thanks all for your kind thoughts... Looking back on Monday, it was like a bad farce. Loads of people crying in the office, them about the sackings, me about the dog. Loads of running into spare offices for private conversations, them about new jobs or panic, me to the vet or dh... Completely surreal and exhausting.
NUF, if it's any consolation, dd1 was born at 31 weeks and was small but fine.
I'm afraid to report I haven't had dreams about any of you Grin

Stropperella · 25/06/2014 16:35

I once had a dream that I was looking after Herb's ds - a while back when he was still a pre-schooler - and for some reason I put him into a giant Michelin Man suit and lost him down one leg and then woke up in a panic.

motherinferior · 25/06/2014 16:38

I had the dream where I was naked at Herbs' party.

I can give stuff up on principle, like meat, but not otherwise.

bigTillyMint · 25/06/2014 16:41

I can never remember my dreams after an hour or two!

Beachy that does sound very stressful.

Am so looking forward to cocktails on Friday. And seeing all of you who can make it of course! Had a busy day with work meetings plus rendez-vous with builder/kitchen people/floor man... Am now relaxing with a pedi. And avoiding DD who came stomping in!

Rosebag · 25/06/2014 17:07

Sad about beachy's poor dog, and the awful work situation. Glad auriga's birthday improved as the evening came.
I am much better if I don't eat wheat or other carbs. No question about it. But I like them. Every now and again I have to shun them completely when the bloat gets to near explosive proportions. But I always fall off the wagon eventually. I'm not a drinker either apart from an occasional G&T which I love and I don't have exciting dreams about lesbians or anything else worthy of a snigger. I need more rock and roll in my life (and the rest...).. I need to get out more.
Speaking of which I'd like to stand you guys a bottle of Wine at your get together...so sorry not to be able to come. Can I send someone a cheque? Don't know how else to do it. I'm reluctant to give credit card details over the phone to a restaurant.

herbaceous · 25/06/2014 17:29

I know for a fact I'd look 10 years younger if I gave up the sauce, but frankly life would be far too tedious.

And while I know I'm better without wheat, I'm still eating the odd cinnamon bun, almond croissant or slice of cake, and hang the consequences.

Rosebag · 25/06/2014 17:43

ps finally settled on the sandal issue…
fugly or what Grin
Apologies to the Birkie devotees. Mea culpa.

QueenQueenie · 25/06/2014 18:06

I like those Rose (but am a bit of a fugly fan).
What a v v kind offer re drink... but it all would be v complicated I think... my suggestion would be making sure you come out on the piss with us soon! We don't need any encouraging in the drinking deptmnt ime.

QueenQueenie · 25/06/2014 18:08

Sorry, just realised how very bossy that sounds... other people may have different views..

motherinferior · 25/06/2014 18:19

oh no, I agree.

I must find a pair of slightly less hideous but walkable sandals than the ones I currently sport.

hattymattie · 25/06/2014 18:22

Pasta is wheat isn't it? I don't think I'd survive!

OP posts:
QueenQueenie · 25/06/2014 18:24

Yes Hatty, pasta is wheat Grin

bigTillyMint · 25/06/2014 18:37

I agree too MI - maybe the next meet up could be somewhere in town north of the river?

I think there is non-wheat pasta too!

motherinferior · 25/06/2014 18:49

Yes - maybe if we were near OPM she might be able to nip out and join us too if DS3 is having a reasonable evening? Just a thought.

I once, many years ago, had an incredibly graphic dream that I'd shagged a very unattractive colleague in a sort of drunken and forgettable way. It was during a phase of my life when I was doing a lot of drunken and forgettable shagging. And the dream was so like chunks of my life I couldn't look him in the face ever again.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 25/06/2014 19:05

BD - so sorry about DDog and the shitty week.

A friend of mine worked on NOTW briefly and they had a copy of Angus D's medical records. You don't want to go there, trust me on that one. Grin

I woke up very suddenly from a dream the other week and said to DH "Where did you hide the body?" Grin To say he looked startled was an understatement.

I went to the hospital for my three month check up today. It was all fine, but I am going to have to have three monthly check ups for life, possibly moving to six months. I'm also booked in to see the geneticist.

Stropperella · 25/06/2014 19:18

Excellent news about today's checkup, MrsS, but what a bummer of having to put up with them and their associated stress for the foreseeable.

Stropperella · 25/06/2014 19:24

Dd spent the afternoon at the beach with friends, came back, ate pasta and did the hoovering and is now on her way out again for a sleepover with another friend. I am very glad to see her getting out and about, but feel confident in my prediction that she will continue to put off doing "boring but necessary" things for some while yet. Possibly until she completely runs out of money for train fares to the beach. Grin

Oh Beachy I'm so sorry to hear of the dogs departure to the great kennel in the sky. Sad What a rotten week! Were the redundancies a complete out of the blue thing? How utterly crap and worrying. I dread this kind of thing.

Ooer to weird sexy-dreams. I miss dreaming. You don't get anything on the meds I'm on. Just complete unconsciousness. No fun at all.

We are gathering speed towards car boot sale number 1 (one, uno)
Come buy my crap lovely unwanted tat and ornaments!
I'm gonna be standing in the rain by the look of it. Weather turned to shit here. < note to self, bring camping chair>

NU you poor things, that's all very unsettling. Hope dil can at least rest properly at home now. Thanks

Rosebag - how is dd settling back at home; any good stories from the trip?

herbaceous · 25/06/2014 19:32

GET IN.

Via shameless nepotism and nagging, I seem to have landed myself a copywriting/editing role that pays the sort of stupid marketing-type day rate I'd been hoping for. I could earn as much in a week as I normally do in a month.
