Here we are crepeys - Friday 13th!

Happy birthday, Auriga, sorry DH is rubbish at present buying - I hope you have had a lovely day in the office with people making a fuss of you.

Felicitations to the important women in MI's life, too.

DIL is having intermittent contractions, but nothing too bad yet. DS has spent the day at home with her which is fortunate.

MI, sympathies with regard to flooding: my worst experience involved a pale green damask covered chair in a posh restaurant, I still shudder at the memory.

Rosebag · 24/06/2014 17:48

Re birthdays I've come it the conclusion that many men are just too concrete to understand that we want to have been " thought " about. They just don't get it. DHs birthday always falls in the middle of several family birthdays and coincides with the witsun half term among other things when everyone's away. I always try to anticipate this and do something a bit special. The only year I failed was when I'd given birth to DD a day and a half earlier.
auriga I do hope the day improved as things went along.
herbs DS1 is a drummer and was all the way til he sold his kit to buy a car. I always maintained that I could deal with the incessant banging better than a violin played out of tune...

originalpiratematerial · 24/06/2014 17:48

Happy birthday Auriga!

I'm just coming down from a massive post-dental high - no, not drug-induced! This was DS3's first proper visit to the dentist - he's almost 10, but has severe autism, and a couple of years ago it just wouldn't have been possible to get him to co-operate at all. Anyway, last September he actually had a tooth out, and had his ears checked, all under GA at the Royal London Hospital. This was the twice-postponed follow-up check, at the RL Dental Hospital. And he did marvellously - waited nicely in the waiting area, went into the dentist's room with only slight hesitation, sat in the chair (!) and actually let the dentist look at his teeth, although he didn't open his mouth VERY much. It was Smile rather than Grin. Anyway she thinks she saw enough to opine that his teeth are fine, which is fantastic news. Next check-up in the autumn, at the same place. And we were able to get the bus home, rather than having to get a cab. Bloody marvellous.

Rosebag · 24/06/2014 17:53

opm that is really great news and heart warming. Wine toasting you and the little dude x

originalpiratematerial · 24/06/2014 18:04

Thank you Rosebag Smile. It really means a lot.

lalsy · 24/06/2014 18:16

opm, what smile-inducing dental story. Lovely. Smile

motherinferior · 24/06/2014 18:39

Oh OPM, I'd be high as a kite after that GrinGrinGrinGrin

I think it's time for Wine. Client has been reading things on a computer with the wrong settings all day. Not my problem but preggo designer would have every reason for throwing toys out of the pram this time!

bigTillyMint · 24/06/2014 18:51

OPM, that's great newsSmile

Cremo, hope you got your curtsey rightWink

My kitchen is no more. Well the sink and appliances are there, but everything else has gone. They have left it very tidy and just a small layer of dust all over!
Why is it that builders always uncover a pile of problems caused by the previous builders? Confused

cremolafoam · 24/06/2014 20:53

Ach OPM that's just tremendous. Well done DS, you must be relieved and elated by that today. Smile Lovely.

Due to Royal Visite I have been on my feet all day and am tired and leg is on fire. Leg was not impressed one bit by the curtsying. BTM I was terrified of tipping forward and causing a scene. Queen was very chatty and even bought a couple of cushions at the market. Grin How she and the Duke keep up at their age is boggling.

Well I have finally met dds new squeeze and he's v nice. Softly spoken and gentle . Thank goodness she's picked a kindly bloke.

BTM are you BBQing or eating chips in the park??

MI I really don't envy you the job you're doing just now. You'll be ready for the gin by Friday...

bigTillyMint · 24/06/2014 21:17

How did she pay, Cremo? I thought she didn't carry moneyWink Couldn't spot you on any of the Grauniad online photosSad
And glad your DD has found a nice kind bloke.

We had quiche warmed in the micro with salad tonight! The range cooker is still in place, so not too bad! I will be giving the DC money for a take-out on Friday thoughWink

cremolafoam · 24/06/2014 21:35

That must be a myth BTM as she pulled 2 crisp English tenners out of her Primrose handbag!
This is the shop she bought them from flaxfox
Great boost for her wee company!

Oh didn't know you have an Aga. Handy! My mother has one but they never turn it off Shock. Last week when it was 26 degrees poor dad was sitting melting in the kitchen. Mums circulation is so bad she didn't feel it.
no, me neither. They are creating their own ozone hole I think.

Auriga , I do so hope your day improved. I spent my birthday last year in tears as dh was going through his 'madness' phase. Much sympathy. So not fair. Birthdays are meant to feel special .x

originalpiratematerial · 24/06/2014 21:39

Thank you all Grin - he had a bit of a wobble this evening and started shouting "Gardening!" (his fave thing at school) and "Back to school today!" (which is super communication, but not that helpful when school's been shut for several hours). He cheered up pretty quickly though when I said "Gardening tomorrow". So I've emailed school to ask if they fit in a gardening session tomorrow [crosses fingers].

I saw the Queen on the news, Crem!

Well done to your ds, OPM, and how lovely for you.

Happy b-day to MI's dd2. Hope you all had a nice b-day evening in the Inferiority Complex Grin

Sympathies to Crem on nearly seizing up during the curtsy for Her Maj. I can picture the scene as Crem tips forward and then all the old royals fall over like ninepins. Grin You'd have definitely seen it all on the Graun online photos then..

Dd is faffing around achieving very little. She claims she is going to apply for jobs, but seems to think this will somehow happen by magic while she lies on the sofa watching daytime tv and drivelling on her phone. Gah. It may be time to take the fuse out of the plug again. Daytime tv as a concept makes me mighty cross. As does the smell from the hamster cage. We are currently engaged in a stand-off about several jobs that she needs to do e.g. take a prescription for her spot meds to the chemist, phone her bank to get a replacement pin number - because she thinks if she puts off doing this kind of thing long enough, I will do it. Not now, I won't. And I can't do the bank one anyway, as the account is in her name. There is also the big room clearout issue. Which she is also refusing to tackle. I'm going to have to go in there with a bin bag or seven, aren't I?

Stropperella · 24/06/2014 22:12

ps: BTM, hope your builders haven't uncovered anything too tricky.

Blackduck · 24/06/2014 22:31

OPM Grin

BTM - oh - hope nothing too drastic!

Off to see Dexeys tomorrow!

cremolafoam · 24/06/2014 22:57

Ooh bd have a lovely Night at Dexys.
All together now,
Come on Eileen, Eileen come on now....
What fun!

herbaceous · 24/06/2014 23:03

Scoured footage on ITV news just now of Liz n Phil, but didn't spot Crem, much to my disappointment.

Very pleased for the mini-pirate.

And hoping Mr Auriga redeemed himself by arriving home with a Birkin and some prosecco.

addle · 24/06/2014 23:44

Happy Birthday Auriga, hope you've had a great evening! and congrats/happy birthday to MI's DD.

V good news about the dentist, OPM

and Herbs, thought you were suggesting Mr Auriga brought home a bikini - which I have to say I would no longer be thrilled at if it were me

Have a great night at Dexy's BD. have probably told you all a million times but Kevin R. went round to my friend's house after she had poured out her teenage heart to him in a agonised, long, long letter. Lovely of him but she was out and so he had a nice cup of tea with her mum, who had no idea who he was or why he was there

Auriga · 24/06/2014 23:52

Thank you, everyone, for warming birthday wishes. I put in a loong day at work, came home to a delightful celebratory meal. Steak and Fleurie from DH; chocolate/coffee cake, hilarious card and a little original song from DD; card, chocolates and a promise of jewellery shopping from DM. Eighteen candles on the cake (random) but it happens to be the number of years I've been with DH.

We had a lovely candle-lit dinner and Mum reminisced entertainingly about my birth. They were in Israel and Dad went to church on his own as she was too big and having twinges. While he was out she started in proper labour. He came back from church with 10 visiting American tourists ('you must come and meet my wife and have coffee'). And more in the same vein, she really enjoyed telling us Grin.

OPM, brilliant, well done to the dental patient Thanks

CointreauVersial · 25/06/2014 00:09

Auriga - just sneaking in before midnight (ummm....maybe) to wish you a Happy Birthday, and do give your DH a MN rap on the knuckles for Not Trying Hard Enough. DH is the same - his usual line is "well, if you don' tell me what you want, you won't get anything" Hmm

Crem - get you, hobnobbing with Liz! Coincidentally, a friend of mine works at Heathrow and met her yesterday, when she opened T3 (Liz, not my mate).

BTM - fingers crossed the kitchen install proceeds smoothly. I reckon it is four years since we had ours done (could be five...), but the old one really was a bit special. Oatmeal and brown tiled walls (with no grout), chipped worktops, yellow and blue lino flooring which was so "busy" you could drop something on the floor and not find it for days, and a yellow artex ceiling.

OPM - good news about your dentist triumph, you must be so relieved.

Talking of which, we have to go back to the orthodontist tomorrow because one of DD1's brackets has come loose already, grr... I could really do without it. DD2 is pestering me to attend sports day on Thursday, but I have two unmissable deadlines which will probably keep me in the office.

MrsS - your linky no worky! I haven't a Scooby where we are meeting so please let me know. Small complication for Friday is that I'm expecting a new mattress to be delivered for DD2 sometime after 6pm, so I will have to wait until DH gets home before I can leave, but I'm hoping this won't hold me up too much.

CointreauVersial · 25/06/2014 00:11

X-posts - he seems to have redeemed himself somewhat..Grin

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 25/06/2014 00:13

  1. We have been to the theatre.
  1. We ate out afterwards.
  1. No lettuce has been consumed. It is now looking a bit sad and floppy.

GrinGrin

Where in Israel, Auriga? How lovely to have an interesting place of birth on your birth certificate (unless you were born in Ramat Aviv Gimmel, where I lived for six months - still more interesting than Reading though...)

The restaurant have emailed me saying that they look forward to welcoming us with "delicious cocktails and food".

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 25/06/2014 00:16

restaurant here

It is right opposite the Imperial War Museum, in a block of flats, at the bottom and is Turkish.

Blackduck · 25/06/2014 06:04

Addled that made me :)
Cremo - no Come on Elieen anymore - he's re-invited himself dontcha know!

(Suspect place will be rammed with lots of crepeys...)
