I look like a mushroom, I'm gutted!

I have been feeling all fat and grotty lately, so went to hairdressers for a change and now it's a million times worse :(

I showed the lady a photo of what I wanted, and have ended up with nothing like it really. I think it's too dark now? Def too short. I hesitate to say this in case theres a very slim chance my hairdresser is reading, but I really hate it.

Can any one recommend any solutions? Beyond hats / extensions / crying for the next 3 months.

I've included a before / after photo so if I'm outed by it - I'm so desperate I don't care!

Im afraid you have been Mum-bobbed Grin

Yes I went there as well and it was awful.

I think you should get a good colour consultation and go a softer caramelly blonde ( see Amanda Holden) with a sweepy fringe and layers and condition, condition, condition !!

Hi Silly Milly - last year I had my long dark locks bobbed after a hairdresser turned my hair orange and then made it worse by highlighting it green.
I've grown it slightly longer and kept a side fringe. Once it's a couple of inches longer it will look even better. Your hair is in great condition which is a bonus.

Messing it up a bit would involve something at the roots - I've got some good Paul Mitchell Root Boost product that does the trick. Squirt it in at the root (obvs) then blow-dry upside down. I end up looking a bit tousled and not sleek at all. My face looks like a horrid fat pink marshmallow when my hair's all straight either side. I also now ask hairdressers for a 'messy' blow-dry instead of a sleek one - seems to do the trick.

I liked the blonde too but this will be livened up with some good, perhaps goldeny highlights and a messy blow-dry.

I really like it both ways and you very definitely do not look like a mushroom.
If you don't like it though, you must go & get it sorted and it seems like it could be easily changed into something you will be happy with.

I think you can get away with both.

Maybe think about going back to blond so it's not too many changes at once?

I love the more messy style someone linked to, its so fecking short at the moment though I'm not sure it would work.

Assuming it's the one I linked to, you can definitely do it that short! My hair is shorter than yours and this is what I do. I'd probably have a few layers cut in around the crown, which makes it easier to mess up. Don't use a brush, just twirl it around your fingers and scrunch it as you dry. You can also use straighteners to give it a bit of a wave here and there but I'm a bit rubbish at that :)

Milly just seen your photos of you blond and bloody hell, you look younger and absolutely gorgeous as a blond. Really brings out your eyes as I love that dark eye and blond hair combo. ( I have that ahem!!).
You are pretty anyway but your before photos are just "Wow" and your blond hair really is your thing. I know how you feel as its mine too and I feel like I blend in as a brunette but shine as a blond. Its who I am.

OP what you said in your last post spoke volumes, lovely person but doesn't listen!

Thats what I've had. Non listeners. I vote with my feet.

Glad you're feeling better over it we've all been there!

I like it too! I guess its such a change for you but honestly, you look really young and have such a lovely face!

How old are the blonde pictures you posted?

Sorry can't find the OP's blonde pics. Would like to see them . Where are they?

Report
polyhymnia · 07/06/2014 23:13

Sorry I'm an idiot - just found them.

Did like the blonde colour but condition didn't seem great. great. Can see why you like blonde - I like mine - but I would just move slowly via highlighting towards a more subtle blonde than your previous colour.
Would keep shorter length but move it to a rather softer, messier shape with side fringe.

Don't hate your new 'do' at all. You've got lovely, healthy hair but I do think it's a bit boring and sensible and you looked better blonde - not the lightest blonde, the darker honey one.

Agree that you'd suit a fringe or half fringe.

I'd go back to blonde and enjoy the better condition its in, I think it'd then feel better for you as it's just a question of growing it a bit if you find you want to. But you look lovely either way Smile

ps well done you for risking a change as well, I think that's a good thing

Funny, I think you look younger with dark hair.

It's very easy to fix OP, a side fringe and some blonde highlights and you'll look great.

If you're finding it too flat now I think it's because your hair is simply too long at the front and is weighed down. I would avoid Pantene if you ever use it.

LucasNorth beat me to it. I was going to suggest a bit of mousse and scrunching it up a bit.

I ended up with a flat bob at one point too and hated it. Mine is now still a bob but I have layers in and a soft fringe. I can have mine blow dried straight and it's nice but I usually add a bit if volumising mousse or similar and dry it messy - head upside down. It takes no skill which is good as I don't have much and even less patience! I can even get away with not drying it at all and just add a bit of sea salt spray and keep shaking it out and scrunching it with my hands.

Op you look brilliant as a blonde in the pics you posted. Go back to blonde and grow it a bit.

I like the blonde on you more and think the bob needs to be a messier cut to suit your features. I have posted this on another thread but I think this one would really suit you (scroll down to the bottom of the page) and would make the grow out a breeze too.
