I look like a mushroom, I'm gutted!

I have been feeling all fat and grotty lately, so went to hairdressers for a change and now it's a million times worse :(

I showed the lady a photo of what I wanted, and have ended up with nothing like it really. I think it's too dark now? Def too short. I hesitate to say this in case theres a very slim chance my hairdresser is reading, but I really hate it.

Can any one recommend any solutions? Beyond hats / extensions / crying for the next 3 months.

I've included a before / after photo so if I'm outed by it - I'm so desperate I don't care!

Another one here who likes it, especially now that you've done it yourself. My only reservation is that it might be high maintenance, especially if your hair is naturally wavy. I also completely disagree with posters who say it needs corporate clothes to 'match' - it's like saying you shouldn't wear jeans with a smart jacket.

And by the way, your face is not fat, missus!

RonaldMcDonald · 07/06/2014 12:18

looks nice to me
better than the blonde

good job..now go be all brunette and mysterious

noddyholder · 07/06/2014 12:44

I think it is very smart looking too sensible maybe. Something between your old and new may suit you better Maybe a highlighted shaggy long bob? It is the way the hairdressers blow dry it maybe?

noddyholder · 07/06/2014 12:46

lunar.thegamez.net/hairstyle/long-shaggy-bob/alexa-chung-hairstyle-short-hairstyles-439x585.jpg this is lovely younger and more natural?

Twinklestein · 07/06/2014 13:04

It's very sleek and chic. I agree about the side fringe, it would soften it. Personally I prefer your hair blonde, but with the bob style.

frumpypigskin · 07/06/2014 14:02

Can I second the vote for a before picture showing your face? It's really hard to judge what suits you better when we can't compare you face with both hairstyles.

I like your new cut when you have styled it yourself. Live with it a little while and then make a decision.

MarshaBrady · 07/06/2014 14:04

Yes I think a pic from the front with old hair would be a better way to compare.

But you could go looser and lighter.

KoalaDownUnder · 07/06/2014 14:11

I love it. And I think it'll look even better once it grows out and 'scruffs up' just a little bit.

unusuallyboard · 07/06/2014 14:30

I liked it better before, the colour and style (it didn't look like rat tails at all as one person may have said) but agree can't judge properly without front photo.

A change of colour maybe?

sillymillyb · 07/06/2014 14:33

Oh blummin heck, thank you for all the replies - totally hadn't expected to come back from ikea on a Saturday hell to that!

Ok, so I've been wandering about all morning just feeling a bit "meh" about my appearance. I think my hair was my thing - and now I feel a bit invisible and boring maybe? I don't know. I'm Deffo thinking some more highlights are the way to go.

Ill try and dig out an old photo from the front - bare with me.

Thank you all for all your comment though, I'm thankful for the mushroom head support!

I prefer the blonde too. I find a brown bob quite old and boring.
The pic you posted of Cameron Diaz (I think) was fab - lots of movement and the colour gorgeous - I'd go for something like that.

sillymillyb · 07/06/2014 14:43

Oh I'm actually really sad - in trying to find old photos, I've realised I look loads better :(

I think I need to grow my hair and dye it blonde again - I'm really shocked by how shit I look now by comparison. I wish I wasn't so impulsive!

I think possibly a relaxed middle parting and try and straighten rather than the blow dried tucked under look - it might be abit short for that right now. Maybe lighter colour with the shorter grown out fringe look like the alexa Chung pic?
(I have been exactly where you are now, I cried the entire day ruining mums birthday meal etc) Hmm

EyelinerQueen · 07/06/2014 14:49

I've just read the whole thread and I have to say I agree with you milly.

You look a million times better (and younger and prettier) with the longer blonde hair.

Your new haircut is the same kind of indentikit 'mum do' I ended up having (and massively) regretting after having DD. I felt like an imposter of myself and grew it back as soon as I could.

Don't feel too bad in the interim - your hair is perfectly fine and not all mushroom-y and no-one will point and laugh. It's just a bit dull and as someone else has already said, corporate looking.

Grow it back and go back to blonde!

WipsGlitter · 07/06/2014 14:50

Second blonde isn't good. Bit brassy and ageing style. I think it looks great now you've done it yourself.

Floisme · 07/06/2014 14:51

I don't agree, op. In fact I think it's blonde hair that has got a bit boring. Brunette is far more interesting, in my opinion.

MarshaBrady · 07/06/2014 14:53

I think you need to go closer to your natural colour. So not that blonde, or dark.

FoxyHarlow123 · 07/06/2014 14:56

Yeah, you looked better before. Sorry. It's just a bit meh now. You're only young - get it back to blonde and sexy whilst you still can!!

sillymillyb · 07/06/2014 14:58

I'm not even sure what my natural colour is any more, it hasn't been seen since I was 11 Grin

I think your right eyeliner, I was trying to look like a proper "mum" I've totally got confused about my identity I think. I don't feel like I need my old hair or my new hair.

I'm all upset again now. I know it's only hair but I felt shit before but actually looked ok in the photos - and now I feel shit and think it looks it too. Argh!

scarletforya · 07/06/2014 15:00

I like you blonde best.

Get some highlights and you will feel great again

EyelinerQueen · 07/06/2014 15:02

Don't be upset!

My do was worse - it had flicked out ends like Anthea bloody Turner and a wispy feathery fringe. Oh I looked way worse than you believe me Grin. Given that my signature look was long with blunt fringe like Jameela Jamil I felt like an utter granny!

Middle parting, a longing fringe that you push to the sides, say cut at the check bones. Loads more colour, really lighten it up. Sea salt stoa for actextured look.

It will grow.

You look good now, I preferred it blonde, and long.

But you're very pretty, and the cut is good.

If you really hate it, just wear it up all the time. Google messy up dos
