I look like a mushroom, I'm gutted!

I have been feeling all fat and grotty lately, so went to hairdressers for a change and now it's a million times worse :(

I showed the lady a photo of what I wanted, and have ended up with nothing like it really. I think it's too dark now? Def too short. I hesitate to say this in case theres a very slim chance my hairdresser is reading, but I really hate it.

Can any one recommend any solutions? Beyond hats / extensions / crying for the next 3 months.

I've included a before / after photo so if I'm outed by it - I'm so desperate I don't care!

I think you are v pretty and can get away with both, and agree it's a good cut that's not 'you'.

I have longish blonde hair and have recently upgraded to a more £££ hairdresser and it has made a huge difference. They know exactly how to do a mix of caramelly blondes and an ash toner that looks natural but swishy and blonde. Also go for regular cuts.

I think you should focus on being a better blonde - pricey but worth it Grin you def suit it blonde better, look younger etc but it looks a bit bleachy and yellowy, not awful but could be a lot better if cared for and coloured better.

Welcome! Grin

Ooh that's a great tip about the travel sized options - I don't actually own any products, so I'm a bit of a novice in that department Grin

A lot of hair products are available in travel sizes so have a look at them if your are trying a few. Good way to see if you like something.

Glad you're going back to blonde. I'd grow out the bob and have fun with it in the meantime.

Naughty Skipping! Had to look up White D. OP's hair bears vaguest resemblance; in that it's straight, brown and a bob, but she certainly doesn't look like her, nor is it shaved (?) on one side.

I love the colour on you. Ignore that bitchy comment up there ^. There's always one attention seeker.

Bloody hell skipping, bit harsh Hmm

Thanks for all the comments everyone, I wore it more messy today and thought it looked better.

Am going to boots tomorrow so will be buying some of the products you have all recommended and playing around with it a bit more. Am looking forward to getting blonder again though!

I think you look lovely before and after sillymilly because you have a lovely face (you can pay me later) - but seriously, you do. Not at all mushroomy, maybe a bit plain and samey but still nice and pretty. Which is fine for a lot of people but if it doesn't feel like you then you're not going to be happy. And by the sound of things you don't feel like you with this hair.

Don't worry though, hair grows quickly! And you'll find it's in much better condition now that it's had a big chop. if I was you I'd have some highlights put in but not go as blonde as before and maybe 'mess' your bob up a bit. Try it wavy? Backcomb a bit (only a bit, not too much and do it under the hair that's on show if thay makes sense) to give it a bit of oomph.

Don't cry though, whilst you're moving towards your you look, you're still lovely :).

Sillymillyb you look better as a blonde. Indians you look better as a brunette.

I like the blonde on you more and think the bob needs to be a messier cut to suit your features. I have posted this on another thread but I think this one would really suit you (scroll down to the bottom of the page) and would make the grow out a breeze too.

Op you look brilliant as a blonde in the pics you posted. Go back to blonde and grow it a bit.

I ended up with a flat bob at one point too and hated it. Mine is now still a bob but I have layers in and a soft fringe. I can have mine blow dried straight and it's nice but I usually add a bit if volumising mousse or similar and dry it messy - head upside down. It takes no skill which is good as I don't have much and even less patience! I can even get away with not drying it at all and just add a bit of sea salt spray and keep shaking it out and scrunching it with my hands.

LucasNorth beat me to it. I was going to suggest a bit of mousse and scrunching it up a bit.

It's very easy to fix OP, a side fringe and some blonde highlights and you'll look great.

If you're finding it too flat now I think it's because your hair is simply too long at the front and is weighed down. I would avoid Pantene if you ever use it.

Funny, I think you look younger with dark hair.

I'd go back to blonde and enjoy the better condition its in, I think it'd then feel better for you as it's just a question of growing it a bit if you find you want to. But you look lovely either way Smile

Don't hate your new 'do' at all. You've got lovely, healthy hair but I do think it's a bit boring and sensible and you looked better blonde - not the lightest blonde, the darker honey one.

Agree that you'd suit a fringe or half fringe.

polyhymnia · 07/06/2014 23:13

Sorry I'm an idiot - just found them.

Did like the blonde colour but condition didn't seem great. great. Can see why you like blonde - I like mine - but I would just move slowly via highlighting towards a more subtle blonde than your previous colour.
Would keep shorter length but move it to a rather softer, messier shape with side fringe.
