I look like a mushroom, I'm gutted!

I have been feeling all fat and grotty lately, so went to hairdressers for a change and now it's a million times worse :(

I showed the lady a photo of what I wanted, and have ended up with nothing like it really. I think it's too dark now? Def too short. I hesitate to say this in case theres a very slim chance my hairdresser is reading, but I really hate it.

Can any one recommend any solutions? Beyond hats / extensions / crying for the next 3 months.

I've included a before / after photo so if I'm outed by it - I'm so desperate I don't care!

Also after you wash your hair, blast dry it with your head upside down while you gently brush it through so that you can lift up the roots. It will look less serious that way.

Kids hate change. Ignore all 7yo opinions.

It looks lovely.

I went from long layered (my mum would say scruffy!) hair to a cut like this a couple of years ago (no colour change though). Got lots of compliments and I agree objectively it looked great, but it was just too much of a change and I felt suddenly very grown up, it didn't really suit my style (jeans and trainers, even at work). When i looked in the mirror it didn't look like me! So I grew it out again. But it did look nice, as does yours, although I can completely understand why it's a bit of a shock :-)

I prefer the new style to the old & like it better now you have done it yourself. I agree about your forehead looking a bit big - it's rather high I suppose, but you do have a nice overall face shape. I agree a few strands of fringe would look good - cut on your left side. If you keep the fringe fairly long then it can be swept out of the way, or grown down again if you don't like it. I didn't like the blonde style much at all.

I'm another who thinks your hair looks so much better now. Thick and healthy and actually in a style rather than just hanging there. I don't think it looks corporate at all. you look great, honestly.

I think it's good - much better.
If it were me I'd only do two things: break up and soften the colour a little with some highlights and soften with a side fringe. Both easily done.

I'd go back to same hairdresser for these as they do seem to know their stuff to me.

I think the current cut and colour is a little harsh on you. I agree, it's corporate. Nothing wrong with that but if it doesn't feel like you, then you need to change it.

Go for the Cameron Diaz style with mid blonde colours. That will suit your style and your colouring. It's gorgeous and would look stunning on you. Oh and post another photo afterwards!

Last April, I had a full-on pixie cut. When I got home, my son opened the door and cried! Not a good start. Grin.

Good points:

(A) condition looks much better

(B) base colour is good

Bad points

(A) for me, the highlights are too stripy. They should blend though. I wouldn't get more highlights though.

(B) for me, the cut is very sophisticated and looks like it will need a lot if careful drying to maintain it. That's not necessarily a bad thing but I think you need a wardrobe and make up to match. I actually prefer it now you've dried it yourself etc

But, given what you've said about your personal style, I think it needs more texture, like the Cameron Diaz picture. I think you will see a big difference in two weeks though, when it starts to grow out

I think it's a very good technical cut but I think it's a classic of a hairdresser giving a good cut but not actually tailoring it to the client's style/lifestyle. So, for me, that's a good hairdresser but not a great one

I don't think there's a harder cut to maintain than a bob. Maximum faff and the slightest humidity makes it kink.

I agree the colour is good, but too blocky. I'd have more highlights woven through, maybe in a slightly different shade of blonde to avoid a stripy effect.

Your original hair indicates a wave in your hair. I think the Camaron Dias style might suit you better. But you'll need more layers to achieve it, or it'll just flop.

Bobs are like the Pinot noir of hair styles. Good ones are sublime; bad ones are totally and completely :-/

There is no middle ground.

If you don't think you can style it in such a way that maintains the swish and gloss, it probably is wise to re-think. I couldn't, in spite of daily BBH usage (thick, coarse hair that just loves to frizz).

I'm going to veer from the usual and say, it looks OK if that's what you were asking for and expecting.

However I don't think you and the hairdresser had much dialogue or she wouldn't have gone so short (you could have had a longer bob/cut) and she would've covered the tattoo!

I think the more highlights would suit it, and the fringe. It depends what you want to do if you want more definition etc you could get more layers cut in.

It also helps that when growing it out you can have fun with it.

Report
SuperFlyHigh · 07/06/2014 11:17

oh from seeing you blow dried it, that's much better.

But I agree looks much too serious for you.

It's not a bad cut (good technically) but I just know from experience that when hairdressers get scissor happy, don't listen to their client, e.g. lifestyle etc that's not good. So I personally wouldn't go back to her/him. Also the colour is good but it isn't you.

You can get lots of beach wave products and I agree with another poster with a fringe, more colour and when it grows in 1-2 months time it'll look better.

I think your cut is lovely, it looks really well done too.

I like the colour but think you maybe want some texture around the front/fringe if you want to look more casual?

What's your natural colour? Tbh I don't understand paying for colour except if you want a big dramatic change. Most peoples natural colour best complements the rest of their colouring.

It looks great and you are very pretty so can certainly carry it off

Completely agree that's it's very different to your old style so that would obviously be a massive shock

And I prefer the way you have done it as well

It looks even more lovely now you've done it yourself. Whatever you decide about a fringe, more high lights or whatever leave it for at least a month. Your brain needs to catch up with all this changeSmile

Do you have a picture of your face with the blond hair before?

Im going to go against the grain here and say that from those 4 photos I think your hair looked gorgeous before. I am a blond though and have that exact colour. Mine is in a tousled bob shape so if you really don't feel like you then I would go back to blond. I went brown once and yes my eyes popped and the colour was amazing but everytime I passed a mirror I freaked out. It was only when I put the blond back that I felt like....."me" again.

Report
Bindibach · 07/06/2014 12:09

I actually think that the bob haircut you have now would look amazing blond.
