I look like a mushroom, I'm gutted!

I have been feeling all fat and grotty lately, so went to hairdressers for a change and now it's a million times worse :(

I showed the lady a photo of what I wanted, and have ended up with nothing like it really. I think it's too dark now? Def too short. I hesitate to say this in case theres a very slim chance my hairdresser is reading, but I really hate it.

Can any one recommend any solutions? Beyond hats / extensions / crying for the next 3 months.

I've included a before / after photo so if I'm outed by it - I'm so desperate I don't care!

By her I mean

SandyChick · 07/06/2014 07:32

Wow your new do is very nice and really suits you. The colour looks very natural.

Your hair looks in lovely condition. It will grow done a bit to cover your tattoo in no time.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/06/2014 07:32

I think it looks lovely, mine's far too wavy for a cut like that but I have always admired them. Colour is very close to my own and I love it Smile.

SaltySeaBird · 07/06/2014 07:34

Really like the last picture you posted, I think that would look great!

Rideronthestorm · 07/06/2014 07:35

It's a lovely cut but she should have listened to you about the length. Your hair looks in beautiful condition now and looked a bit rough at the edges in the before photo.

It does look better now than it did before so concentrate on the positives.

BalloonSlayer · 07/06/2014 07:35

I too think it looks lovely.

You may find that when you dry it yourself you cannot get that very very rounded effect so it will look longer and not so mushroomy. But I like the mushroomy roundness.

I really like the colour but think that if you continue to not like the new style you should have it lightened a bit.

BellaVita · 07/06/2014 07:37

I think it looks lovely. Thick, glossy and in great shape.

Arse!! Fat fingers, small phone. I think your new style looks lovely. It's all healthy, think and glossy. It's quite a radical change from your hair before so it's quite understandable that you're a bit 'traumatised.' I never like the way hairdressers style my hair - I much prefer it once I've washed and 'styled' (used in loosest terms) it myself. It's a lovely colour as well Smile

DocDaneeka · 07/06/2014 07:52

Wow. It looks 100x better than before. Really healthy and glossy. The colour suits your eyes too. I'm guessing the blonde didn't complement them quite so well.

Stick with it. I love having radical hair changes, but it takes a day to two to get used to it.

I love it. If you'd wear make up you probably need to change it as it's such a drastic transformation. I'd really emphasise the eyes.

WastingMyYoungYears · 07/06/2014 08:05

Oh, it's lovely Smile - I was worried that it wasn't going to be Grin.

It's a huge change though, let it settle in before you do anything drastic. I hope you have some good hair straighteners!

MissMilbanke · 07/06/2014 08:08

Looks lovely.

Don't change a thing - and have no regrets

NotQuitePerfect · 07/06/2014 08:10

You look lovely - honestly I can't see anything to worry about! Gorgeous glossy hair, well cut Wink

MorrisZapp · 07/06/2014 08:13

Well I am jealous. I have had blonde highlights all my adult life and not one haidresser can offer me a decent alternative.

I love your natural looking, mid brown colour. I've never managed to persuade a hairdresser that this colour exists, far less that I can have it myself.

Enjoy planet shiny!

EauRouge · 07/06/2014 08:13

I love it it's the same as mine, it takes a while to get used to a big change. My hairdresser always blow dries mine wrong and makes me look like a mushroom, I prefer it dried natural or blow dried to give it texture. I hate the round bob lollypop-head look.

doziedoozie · 07/06/2014 08:13

Flatters your eyes.

It will be great when it is slightly longer and swishy, just above your shoulders, def worth waiting 6 weeks (that's how long I have between cuts).
Perhaps a lower parting and soft fringe.
Also a strong lipstick colour would look good and balance your dark eyes.

bishboschone · 07/06/2014 08:15

I'm going to go against the grain and say I get where you are coming from. My hair is currently blonde shoulder length and curly. It's sort of my brand , I wear casual clothes as I'm a sahm and it suits me and my personality. I would feel very grown up and serious with hair like that so I totally get why you feel so uncomfortable . Is it possible when you wash it you could make it wavy like it was before ? Or maybe try one of those hair bands with hair on and try and tie it up?

littlesupersparks · 07/06/2014 08:16

I'm not sure about a fringe to be honest but that might because my hair is very similar! I think you might feel better with a few highlights? Less of a big change?

WireCat · 07/06/2014 08:17

It looks lovely. I think because it's so different to your original style, it will just take some getting used to.

And you don't look like a mushroom!

ZacharyQuack · 07/06/2014 08:23

It looks a bit like Katie Holmes when she had short hair. How about looking here for some inspiration.

Iamblossom · 07/06/2014 08:29

I like it too.

But if you had told the hairdresser to leave it long enough to cover your tattoo and she hasn't then I think you ask for your money back.

Nocomet · 07/06/2014 08:30

You'll look far less like a mushroom when you do it yourself. Hairdressers always overdo the round brush.

It's lovely and shiny and a good colour.

If it's a tad short it will grow.
