Oh Crem, how frustrating. But maybe it is reassuring that there isn't anything particular to see? Here is on sciatica [[http://cks.nice.org.uk/sciatica-lumbar-radiculopathy#!scenariorecommendation:2]] in case helpful - both physio and amitriptyline mentioned as possibilities if pain meds not enough. I am sorry, it sounds awful, but am touched by your faith that a mini NI meetup will restore you to health and like your thinking Grin.

on the treat front, dh's idea of a good time involves more speed and height than mine (would love to go to Castle Howard).

BTM and beachy, your breaks both sound great. I have got wet five (5,v) times today.

lalsy · 27/05/2014 23:08

Ooops. cks.nice.org.uk/sciatica-lumbar-radiculopathy#!scenario From NICE.

QueenQueenie · 27/05/2014 23:54

Just checking in. Like the nice, shiny new thread! And the way we're filling it up already at top speed.
You poor love Crem. Have you had anything like this before? I did something to my back about 7 years ago, just by bending over to scoop something up off the floor... the pain nearly made me black out. Horrific. In my case it was keeping moving, anti inflammatories and an osteopath that helped. I now do exercises (when I remember) and am more careful of it.
Enjoying reading about everyone's hols and holiday plans. Dh and I realised that in October half term both dcs are away on school trips. We have booked up 3 nights in a fantastic looking hotel in Sicily. Only ddog to sort out still. Am ridiculously overexcited.

Blackduck · 28/05/2014 05:47

Oh QQ Envy
Dp and I are going to work together - that's about as good as it gets round here at the moment... I have a meeting at his place, which at least means I don't have to face my lot today. Which bit of 'they don't meet the criteria' do people not understand?

Grin at luminous yellow - I'll join you Windy!

Cremo - hope things are a bit better this morning...

We are grumpily departing. May have no MN access.Shock Still sore about CDiff's conviction I have no grasp of grammar - I find this really upsetting, which I realise is trivial but it hurts. Do not want to go and get rained on in Skipton, or indeed have lunch with DP's ancient rellies in Northampton. Angry

herbaceous · 28/05/2014 09:21

I know just how you feel MI. I get terribly miffed if I'm overruled in any grammatical, syntactical or wordy sense. I guess it's because being Good At Words is part of who we are, so when it's insulted, especially by idiots, it cuts to the quick. The fact that they're total cretins somehow doesn't help.

A previous client of mine used to insist on all council job titles having initial capitals. I gave up arguing, and just took them all out just before it went to print. So I WON.

Rosebag · 28/05/2014 10:15

Some people are obsessional about grammar. The aren't always right though. They like rules and don't understand that language is a living, breathing thing that varies. Don't let the buggers get you down MI Good luck with the rellies and the birthday lunch. I now need to haul up my lazy back side and find my walking boots. Perhaps the fresh air will lift the mood which is a bit grey today. Have a good one everybody.

cremolafoam · 28/05/2014 10:43

Where are you walking to rose?

MI I think when people criticise the thing you really excel at really can cut you to the bone. Is C diff one of those bitches who relishes making people squirm? If so do not spend any time taking it out on yourself. It's a form
Of bullying.
Hope the next few days are restorative rather than grim. Refuse to take charge of anything if you can and let the whole thing just happen.Grin

Rudy you could rock any colour and still look cool.

Lalsy I read that NICE guide and it has made me afearedSad

NearTheWindymill · 28/05/2014 10:59

Rudy no offence meant - many apologies if I hit a raw nerve.

If it's any consolation I'm due at the dentist at 11.30.

lalsy · 28/05/2014 11:18

Oh Crem, I am sorry, didn't mean to scare you. It doesn't make fun reading, does it (and maybe there are other things that might work but for which the evidence is not yet strong enough to be recommended officially?). I hope the GP is helpful about pain management and any possible treatments.

MI, agree about not taking charge of anything. I try to do that on IL visits, just detach and drink.....

Rosebag · 28/05/2014 13:23

Crem we are at a lovely pub called The Black Rabbit for lunch, having done a very tame walk through Arundel and the Downs. All our walks are tame because I don't like mud very much!! How are you feeling?

cremolafoam · 28/05/2014 13:34

Lalsy that's ok; forewarned is forearmed . I'm one of those people who prefers to know tbh. I just have a terror about this turning out to be chronic. So much want it to be over.
Have had enough sofa time this year.

Rose sounds lovely despite the mud.
There's a complete dearth of pubs to walk scenically to here. Plenty to drive to but we don't have the right to roam on farmland or much provision for walking here.
I am mildly off my trolly on the new meds. Still some sharp pain but I can hobble today so bonus points to gabapentin . Have retired to my summerhouse shed to snooze with a cat and audiobook. Smile

lalsy · 28/05/2014 13:44

Yes, I do too, but the thought of it not going must be very scary. Glad you can hobble today.

Rose, sounds lovely.

NearTheWindymill · 28/05/2014 13:59

Crem I've read the article now. It irks me that physio is put in the 2nd artillery. I'm not an expert but I've got a crap back with disk damage. If you can afford it, can you get yourself a private referral for physio. You've got the MRI reults so this will inform their opinion. They will work on the muscle spasms around the issue which will help a lot. They are also very good at convo's with GPs about rferral for corticosteroid injections. I had one of those during an acute episode and the relief was incredible. For me those wrap around heat pads provide good relief in a bad patch; naproxen, paracetamol, physio, (the tummy medicine too to protect against the anti inflams). That keeps me upright during the first week. Also, have you been taught how to get up from lying down to minimise strain - that makes a world of difference. I'll try to do it and note iT when I get home but I'm not sure if it translates well to step by step instructions. You have to watch and copy.

Good luck

What do you do Rudy? Sounds fascinating Grin. I'm desperately racking my brains now.

Am in rainy service station near Sheffield. Probably shouldn't have told DP's v straight-laced aunt I still yearn to get my nose pierced...

Windy re Rudy think pedals.....

I'm stuck in dp's office waiting for him to finish after a tres boring meeting - he was supposed to be done by three....

herbaceous · 28/05/2014 16:43

Spent today at a farm 'themed' park, with a few desultory animals and lots of rides, such as the Wiggly Worm rollercoaster, remote control tractors, and a vast sandpit with mini-diggers in which DS and his friend spent an hour getting sodden.

Realised as we set off in the morning that I had a flat tyre, but happened to be just outside Dear Little Garage, which fixed it for me for £15, so that was all fine. Somehow I'd driven over a three-inch screw, which had gone right into the tyre.

Now have to do washing, transfer seedling vegetables to pots, dry washing, make DS's dinner, make our dinner, sort out my music and pack for tomorrow's crepey trip to Harrogate. What to wear, what to wear...

bigTillyMint · 28/05/2014 16:50

Have just spent half an hour helping DD sort through her clothes. Well some of them. Have had to leave the room due to being unable to breathe in there! We found more than a few pairs of age 9-10 knickers which she is still wearing[grin[
