Hi RosebagSmile

IIRC, it was all the fault of a woman called swedes, then word association football, then someone - possibly stropps or MrsS - joined in, with talk of 'jowl-lag, and it went from there.

My DP wears blue, black and grey. He has multiple pairs of indigo Carhartt jeans, and even more black shirts. In the winter he also wears a black v neck jumper. When it wears out, he buys another, just the same. The only colour to be found is on his extensive collection of trainers.

If he needs a new garment, he goes into one shop, buys it (usually a black shirt) and is out, before I've even had a chance to start dithering over a single purchase.

I've lost two pounds! Though it was a fast day yesterday, so down on water. MI - what does your 70 mean in this context?

No macrame or straw craft for me, but I do still harbour a desire to make one of those Klimt tapestry cushions advertised in Sunday supplements.

NearTheWindymill · 16/05/2014 09:11

53 year olds are very welcome - am I allowed to say that as a newbie? Congratulations to all who have lost weight - the rest of us can just have a slice of cake to sustain our wobbling misery Sad

I am on annual leave today. Mainly because we have the weekend from hell (nice hell, just busy hell) ahead of us and I have to cook the aforementioned cottage pies in amongst it all.

Just contemplating heaving myself out of the armchair to go and peel two large bags of carrots and sort out 1.5 bags of onions (ie peel and chop) before frying off the bargain mince.

But I do have the hairdressers to look forward to and wearing that nice frock tonight.

Rosebag · 16/05/2014 09:25

Thank you for the welcome and so glad to qualify. You sound like such a friendly bunch. After a month of low carb I've just fallen off the wagon and eaten 2 slices of toast and butter in Costa. It was heaven. Not looking forward to the bloat tonight though. NearTheWindymill, you've inspired me to get myself to the hairdressers…and I do love a new frock opportunity! Ah well, back to nagging DS to get out of bed, off facebook and do some revision….

motherinferior · 16/05/2014 09:47

Herbs, my 70 was a vague attempt at saying 'ooh, look, a bit of reduction'.

I misheard DP. He hasn't gone to Berlin, he's gone to Birmingham. Grin

bigTillyMint · 16/05/2014 10:00

Grin MI, that's a bit of a difference!

motherinferior · 16/05/2014 10:13

Rosebag, a life totally devoid of toast and butter is not a life worth living, surely! Grin

Blackduck · 16/05/2014 10:20

Hi Rosebag!

MI - he could have dropped by my place....

Here I intend to do some gardening, maybe a bit of cooking, knock up my presentation for Monday's interview (and I suspect I might have another interview coming - permanent this time so need to give this all some thought...) and slump on the patio with a small (in the hope of moving down from 100) glass of white.....

Blackduck · 16/05/2014 10:20

Oh and Windy - I had the joy of HERA yesterday Hmm

hattymattie · 16/05/2014 10:26

Hello to Rosebag. You lot have been so busy overnight I can't keep up. Have been to the gym and am toying with the idea of going to the hairdresser but I feel it's not showing through grey enough yet to justify the expense!

DD1 has her prom this weekend and has practically been kidnapped by her boyfriend's mother who has organised the hairdresser and everything. She only has three boys so she's never had the opportunity do do this beforeSmile.

hattymattie · 16/05/2014 10:29

On the subject of partners' clothes. DH wears jeans or whatever is on then top of the pile plus a t-shirt and a jumper. I throw out t-shirts from time to time as he will hold onto them until they are frayed at the neck and will go out like that if I don't stop him.

wilbur · 16/05/2014 10:41

Hi Rosebag - welcome!

Hattie - sweet about dd1's overexcited boyf's mum. My MIL was like that with four boys, loved being involved in a bit of her DILs' wedding preparations etc, and when she got her 1st granddaughter she redecorated her spare room with fairy fabric and strings of lights with feathers on them Grin.

If anyone still has the skills, dd would lurve a macrame owl - owls are her favourite.

I am going out for lunch today - unheard of naughtiness on a weekday. And it's sunny! Wonders will never cease.

NUFC69 · 16/05/2014 10:51

Welcome, Rose.

I am now feeling deprived because I never made a macrame owl (or anything else for that matter); however I did have a macrame hanging plant holder in my first home.

DH doesn't do coloured trousers either - although he does have a lovely smart pair of raspberry coloured shorts for holidays (I love them, can you tell that I twisted his arm to buy them?).

Glorious here too; DH has gone cycling, I am about to start once again on the Forth Road Bridge like front paths with the deweeding brush. One day it will all be done - and then I will have to start on the back again. Hopefully DH will not be back late and then we will go out together on our bikes (he's a bit funny about me cycling off into the countryside by myself - maybe he has a point because I do not have a good record when it comes to falling off!). Must remember to put on my cycling undershorts today.

Hatty, how lovely of you to let the bf's mum do the prom stuff - not sure I couldBlush DD was only saying to me the other day that she is hoping to get a really expensive dress for hers next year! I am pleased that she actually wants to goSmile

hattymattie · 16/05/2014 11:27

BTM - DD1 seems to have a lot of swanky events and I still have DD2. We were really lucky with the prom dress as a friend, who has obviously had a more high flying lifestyle than I, has lent a long, sparkly backless number to DD1 which is fabulous (and has saved us a lot of expense).

There is a also a graduation ceremony and meal at the beginning of July which includes parents so DH and I will also have to scrub up.Smile

NearTheWindymill · 16/05/2014 11:34

BD It'll be tripping off your tongue in no time and you'll have a quick glance and write things like DAD, ACC, CCEE in a flash. Was it training? Did you have the lovely HB? I still have to think thrice about the matrix ones.

Blackduck · 16/05/2014 12:07

Did the training last year Windy, this was an observation (i.e. dry run....) - luckily I agreed with the assessors so feel I am not too far off the mark!

Rosebag · 16/05/2014 12:08

Mother you are so right, but when I have one slice, I always want 5. If on the other hand I have healthy rabbit food, it's self limiting…somehow. Have just tried to walk some of it off…
I have agreed to go with DH to the Levi's shop on Sunday to try and buy him some stylish jeans…I'm so fed up with him looking like an old git. (And he's younger than me…) Does ok with formal wear for work, but epic fail on the casual gear.
It's been easy having a son in preparation for the Year 11 prom…he just wants to wear unrelieved black…trousers, jacket and shirt. I can't believe the extent the girls in his year are going to…apparently there is a web page where they have to post their dress, so no one comes in the same outfit. I ask you….
Thanks once again for the warm welcome.

cremolafoam · 16/05/2014 12:11

Windy , come againConfusedGrin

Rose welcome ,

I have managed to avoid a hangover. Which is a miracle given the level of mixed drinking last night at boss's Shock wedding do. Red wine, champagne with rasp liqueur doused into it, 2 Sea Breezes, 1 pint Guinness and a goldshlager . Boke.
We have been up getting dd her vaccinations; she's had typhoid rabies cholera and hep a&b this morning. And < drum roll> gone back to bed.
The goats have had 3(three III) kids - tiny cute white and with little shrill be de beep voices. I keep going to have a peep. Gorgeous.GrinEnvy

I am also doing weeding today NU. And it is hateful and endless . I can only tolerate it if I have a good audiobook plugged in my ears.

It's Higher Education Role Evaluation Crem an analytical tool to grade jobs based on 14 competencies Grin.

BD knows what I mean.

Cottage pies all made - well not the mash yet. Contemplating a luxuriously long bubble bath. Is it too early to pour a glass of wine to sip whilst I have it?

cremolafoam · 16/05/2014 12:19

Dh has a reasonably nice selection of clothes including a red trouser, but a complete inability to put on a top and bottom that potentially could be considered , a match . He will happily bung on a giant mohair handknit in which he normally would cut grass or chop wood , with a pair of smart work trousers. Dd and I have adopted a look of horror each time he emerges in another unsuitable outfit.Confused
Khaki with cornflower blue
Mustard Combats with black velvet jacket etc

NearTheWindymill · 16/05/2014 12:25

DH has a nice line in beige chinos, navy pullover and has a casual cotton navy jacket. If he needs to be a bit smarter at the weekends he has some dark green cords/dark brown cords which he wears with a beigy, browny, greeny check jacket. This has pretty much been his style for three or four decades. Brown lace ups at weekends of course.

When it's very cold he has taken to wearing a sleevless v neck jersey under his jacket. A bit like a tank top.

The children eye roll.

NearTheWindymill · 16/05/2014 12:27

Except for his suits and shoes, I buy all his clothes. If I try something a bit different he cannot bring himself to say he does not like it but it remains in the cupboard with the label on until it is too late to take it back. I am now more ruthless about this.

Not forgetting of course the pink shorts he bought himself last summer which was entirely out of character.

No no! I don't want another one, I want the black bin we already have taken away! It's spare, we don't need it as we use the neighbour's bin.

Hello

As per the email below, our spare bin was supposed to be taken away by the end of March - it is still here!

Could you pass this to the waste management team again and see if they can come and get it?

Thanks

Sarah
