Let's talk workwear. Maybe a little bit of non workwear fashion chat, too.

My blog is at theworkwearedit.com but our chat goes above and beyond that.

Little, they do seem to update their eBay site quite often so worth keeping an eye.
Only buy Boden in sale too. Smile

Littlepinkpear · 01/06/2014 21:33

Just noticed something quite cheeky by Boden. A jumper I like is £10 cheaper on the eBay outlet than on the website.

TroyMcClure · 01/06/2014 22:23

That marks jumper is going back. Love it but think it makes me look rectangular

BeattieBow · 02/06/2014 10:06

I'm going to Oxford Circus at lunch time (to take stuff back mainly), but am going to make an effort to go into Zara and Banana Republic to get some jewellry. I'm definitely scared of wearing anything big and sparkly (my J Crew sparkly one got a thumbs down from my H and Dcs sadly), but am going to try a bit harder. I saw someone today in a black midi pencil skirt, grey tee (oh I'm such a fashionista!) and statement necklace, and thought I could channel that look tomorrow.

Does the current Gap code cover BR too?

DesperateHousewife21 · 02/06/2014 10:24

Im out shopping today, more Primark and Topshop than Mango and Reiss!

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 02/06/2014 10:44

Troy (pronounced w an especially strong Australian accent, which I have adopted, just for you): lots of tops make me look rectangular - something I really have to try and avoid. Slouchy on someone else is often unflattering and boxy on me.

Beattie - the Zara under BHS, just near Oxford Circus has some of the older necklaces, which appeal to me far more than their current odd necklaces.

Oh, and when I went to banana Republic in Covent Garden last week, they said all their sale stock had been transferred to the Regent St branch, at Oxford Circus.

Thanks Beattie!

Hi Belinda am back in uk. Yes, couldn't believe it, was actually in a small BR and the had one pair of silver Carlie's and they were your size. Had to ditch the box to fit in my luggage. Please pm me your address.

And I bought for me ....
A pencil skirt from j crew (am so cross at how expensive they are in the uk)
Navy work pencil skirt in BR, navy lacy BR top, and a cream silk one that I had wanted, tis grubby but was 18 dollars and am sure it will come out ok after a wash. And a lovely dark green snakeskin bracelet.

And now for a proper cup of tea and some sleep

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 02/06/2014 17:20

Goodness - it's fashion fate! Thank you again SO much! I have sent you a PM. Sounds like you bought some lovely things, too. Enjoy your tea.

Thanks for the tips re petite suiting. I have disproportionately long arms (hmm, attractive) so petite can be a bit off from that perspective but I'm going to try BR.

On that note I really like the black wool suit from BR but as I said I really wanted charcoal. As an alternative I was thinking of going for the BR suit but getting a charcoal blazer to mix it up as lots of people in the new office seem to wear separates.

What do we think to this? www.next.co.uk/g565184s1#658965g56

In other news I decided to go for the Pippa grab in Shark. Modalu were brill, they had sold out yesterday during the flash sale but I contacted them today when the bag came back into stock and they honoured the sale price.

I love pointy silver flats, I tried some on in M&S but they sold out too quickly (story of my life...).

lurkingmurking · 02/06/2014 17:33

This is a brilliant thread and Belinda I love your blog.

Any recommendations for a simple navy shell top? Preferably not sleeveless.

Littlepinkpear · 02/06/2014 18:41

Lurking- viscose or cotton?

NumptyNu · 02/06/2014 21:01

Love the post on French women and fashion. What do they mean by nude tights being a no-no? That opaque are better or that bare legged is better?

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 02/06/2014 22:05

penguin - I wasn't going to like the Next jacket, but it's wool! Pure wool! Definitely worth a try. It's looks promising. It may be thick like tweed, but it's hard to tell. Another option is the HOBBS Ellen black and white fine checked (so fine that it looks grey) suit? You would prob have to have it altered to fit (I had most if my suits altered), but it's wool and seemingly v good quality.

Well done to Modalu!

Re pointed silver flats, you can find leather sling backs at Boden and Massimo Dutti. Next are doing some vinyl ones, too, but my feet are too soft for that. The BODEN wedges arrived and are v good, but I will prob send them back now that I have the Banana Republic flats! Also, the BODEN wedges don't come in half sizes and the 40 is too big.

Thanks lurking. Yes, fabric preferences?

numpty - I have only ever seen the French Vogue editors in opaques or bare legs. I would just ignore that last point, as it's too limiting for a cold climate. The nude tight situation is annoying (ie WHICH ONES are long lasting, apparently nude, not shiny, not frumpy etc??), but it's just not practical in this country to either go bare legged or wear only opaques. I think it's a bit too idealistic, even for me!

OP posts:
BelindaAllWorkedOut · 02/06/2014 22:05

Err, that was a bit wordy.

OP posts:
NumptyNu · 03/06/2014 07:36

What denier opaques so you go with in this weather ladies?

lurkingmurking · 03/06/2014 10:07

I think cotton - just nothing 100% polyester please!

I cannot do opaques in June - I refuse. I like the M&S bare invisible 5 denier tights. They really do look like bare legs.

NumptyNu · 03/06/2014 10:23

I know what you mean lurking. I like a bit of coverage but find the 7 denier black or nearly black make my legs look like little twigs. I'm also quite short so always have the fear of Norah Batty style when I consider nude ones. I will try your suggestion though.... I agree that opaques in June just feels wrong, even though it's cold and wet!

BeattieBow · 03/06/2014 10:35

I have just spend 65 in M&S on a variety of bare legged tights (and some footsie thingies), with the intention of finding which one is best for me (I don't like shine, I don't want to have really pale legs or american tan like legs). I will take back the shades that don't match me. (I've got 2 different shades of the bare invisible tights). I'm away with work for 2 days from tomorrow and need to wear tights. (a hang up from my corporate days, I can't go bare legged, bare shouldered or open-toed in the office!).

I can't go bare legged either (although I am today as I couldn't find any tights at home), but don't want to wear opaque in June! I like the bare legged look but the bloggers all seem to do it from Feb onwards!

BeattieBow · 03/06/2014 10:50

thepurplepenguin do Boden still have their pointy silver flats in stock?

I'm also looking for a midi (below the knee) floral pencil skirt - has anyone seen one of those?

(I saw one in Oasis I quite like, but it's sold out I think). I do like the J Crew skirts, but too expensive...

NumptyNu · 03/06/2014 13:00

Let us know the outcome Beattie!

Littlepinkpear · 03/06/2014 15:28

Belinda the new bag is amazing :)

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 03/06/2014 16:06

Thank you! Am quite Smile about it.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 03/06/2014 16:41

Beattie not pencil. Perhaps you want midi length? Or is it to be just at bottom of knee? www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Midi-Skirt-in-Painted-Floral-Print/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3833072&SearchQuery=a%20line%20skirt&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=-1&sort=-1&clr=Blkwhite
