DS2 totally gets Austria. He gets very cross when people refer to her as the bearded lady.

Addle, DH would love that (I'm not telling him either, Rudy!) He's got 5 more years to 50! He hasn't really played for a few years now as every time he played he got an injury - thinking he was still 16Grin

OPM I don't get Austria at allConfused

NearTheWindymill · 10/05/2014 21:22

Did he ever play professionally Addle? All sounds very exciting. My DH could easily get ideas.

CointreauVersial · 10/05/2014 21:24

Watching Eurovision here too, armed with our official scoresheet. Although we're a bit behind as dinner over-ran. The bearded Austrian - wtf?!

I had the choice of two parental duties this morning - a) take DS to a football tournament, and shiver on the touchline in the rain, while trying to keep a grumpy DD2 amused, or b) take DD1 to a party in Guildford, and spend three blissful hours shopping alone hang about until she finished. Reader, I'm sure you can guess which one I chose. The tournament went well in my absence; DS's team came home with a trophy and DD2 apparently spent most of the time sitting in the car revising for SATs (which start on Monday), bless her.

Esher, MrsS? Dullsville. Back in the day, when I lived in Weybridge, we used to go to the cinema there. A few nice restaurants and gift shops, but not really enough to fill an afternoon.

QQ Sad So sad when there are young children left behind.

NearTheWindymill · 10/05/2014 21:36

CV I nearly spat on the screen thinking of you judiciously filling out the score sheets.

Spain was just not quite awesome. I can't really remember any of them to be honest - except the beard and the Russian twins and Poland. Suisse looks a bit odd. DD likes the sweet cheescake one (unmemorable for me) and the one with the skates.

Blackduck · 10/05/2014 21:36

QQ-:(
Here I am trying to raise a friend who split with her parter today and getting increasingly worried

NearTheWindymill · 10/05/2014 21:37

DD says it's hard to run and play the violin? She plays flute so not sure how she deduced that.

QQ - how sad. I'm sorry.

We are watching Eurovision as well (sort of). I hope everyone votes for Ukraine.

I am not a big fan of that part of Surrey at all. My DDad used to call it the "Gin and Jag Belt." I would say more Merc and Range Rover than Jag these days. Lots of big cars driven by trophy wives. We spent a pleasant half hour watching a number of them stall their cars at the traffic lights, and kangaroo across the junction, from the comfort of a cafe window.

originalpiratematerial · 10/05/2014 21:44

Blackduck - thinking of your friend, hope everything's ok.

NearTheWindymill · 10/05/2014 21:52

Well, I am a trophy wife. Far too tarnished and heavy to heave off the mantelpiece Grin.

Awful, awful place Mrs S. No edge but full of people trying not to have an edge iykwim.

....and high numbers of WAGs belonging to wbankers.

originalpiratematerial · 10/05/2014 22:04

Wasn't Esher where Ange from Eastenders dreamed of living? Before Dirty Den served the divorce papers on her?

motherinferior · 10/05/2014 22:07

We overBuffed and, like Rudy, I think an early night with a pile of trashy novels from the library awaits Grin

I might avoid Esher.

bigTillyMint · 10/05/2014 22:09

Rudy, love that google!

We gave up on the Eurovision and are going to bed as we have to be up at the crack to set off to look at the carHmm

motherinferior · 10/05/2014 22:10

And QQ, so sorry. I have had a text from my lovely friend with the brain tumour, who is now just starting a month of radio/chemo. Which sounds absolutely vile so must be a calculated guess at giving him a bit more time. I still can't get over the idea of losing him. He's been part of my life since before DD1 was born.

originalpiratematerial · 10/05/2014 22:12

mi Sad

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 10/05/2014 23:08

Oh MI. Sad

QueenQueenie · 10/05/2014 23:35

There is something especially awful and "too close to homeish" when someone dies who is a similar age / life stage. With my friend whose service is tomorrow it's the fact that her two boys are the same age as mine that really brings home the enormity of it. When our ds2s did eleven plus entry exams for the same school we spent the morning together having a panic and a laugh... Sad

Auriga · 10/05/2014 23:35

Very sorry, QQ. Good idea about the memory letters to the boys, hope everyone does it. The smallest memory will help. I'm afraid I missed your Guardian link, could you re-post it?

And MI, hope your friend tolerates his heavy-duty therapy ok.

In domestic news, hurt my foot badly this evening when Ddog pulled me over on terrace, no doubt thinking she'd seen a fox. Why was she on lead, did you ask? Because neighbor still has not mended his fence since the February gales Angry

Good dress, Windy. And Stropps, enjoy yourself Grin

QueenQueenie · 10/05/2014 23:38

Meant to say how sorry to hear about your friend too MI.

Auriga, article here

Stuck it out until the bearded bitter end Euro vision wise, fortified by several glasses of Belgian beer and some port.

Our score sheets had extra columns for "number of fist pumps," "number of winks at the camera," and a bonus score if flames shoot from the stage at any time. Grin

Had to Google Conchita Wurst to deduce exact sexuality.....
