I had to learn all the verses of 'O Come all Ye Faithful' in Latin at school. I'm sure it would all come back to me with a little revision!

We have AS levels this week and next. Seems quite calm at the moment.

HERBICISSIMA!!!!!!

God, you're worse than a teenager Grin, next time you do this "oh, I messed up" wibblywibble we shall say bracingly "come on, dear, you can do it".

I think emoticons should go outside stops, like footnote marks.Grin

Hey, guess what my crepey friends? Remember that PGCE interview that I farked up? Well they've only gone and offered me an UNCONDITIONAL offer on the full time course! I am utterly gobsmacked.

I've actually come to the conclusion that part time would be better, but that's a minor detail...

Rudy, I have tracked you down and posted! And I want to know how your DC know Mr D (different thread!)

Oh Stropps, that is horrid (French being harder than the past papers) - wishing strength to your DD. Mine seems quite upbeat about today (no value attached to REWink) but is worried about C2 and C3 on Thursday.

Disappointed that we won't be able to point and laugh, Stropps!

Apparently the pics and video of me from Sat evening are so hideous that so far everyone is being kind and not putting them online. Dignity, what's that? Blush
Dd's revision buddy, whose mother was also at the party, was round this morning and she and dd were comparing notes on the reprehensible behaviour of their mothers. Shock
Apparently, French today was tougher than all the past papers they have done. Dd is a bit dispirited, but unsurprised. They had all been warned that this summer's exams will be harder than the ones that have gone before.

She is indeed. Yep, there is research but that is true of all academic fields, I guess.

Shock at punctuation anarchy. I think they should go inside stops.

Looking back at the thread there seems to be no consistency about emoticons - complete punctuation anarchy.Smile

Just realised I talked myself round to Mary Beard again - although I think she's a classicist not an archeologist.

Do smileys go after a stop, before or instead of? This has been preoccupying me.

Report
hattymattie · 12/05/2014 16:16

Yes - I was just thinking of all the names and classifications that were in Latin - what about archeology? That must need a good dollop of Latin?

I'm getting a life cover for over 50s pic, MI, swap you smiling old man for a jam tart?

Report
motherinferior · 12/05/2014 15:52

I wish there wasn't a jam tarts pic that keeps coming up at the top of the screen. I really fancy a jam tart.

Hatty, as a scientist I never used my Latin, I just learned the phrases or terms I needed as I would new English terms - they never came up in Virgil or Tacitus anyway.... I loved Latin and think it is great brain food and fun, if it happens to float your boat as it does dd's, and am glad more dc have the chance to at least test the water, but think to be a good zoologist/ you have to be good at zoology (which I did study at university) and the basic sciences and maths that support it. We just won't count on dd to support us in our old age!

I think it depends on the scholar Hatty (glances at dp who is on his way to a heart attack....)

Report
bigTillyMint · 12/05/2014 14:06

Good, BD - there is no point in cramming them for the L6 SATs - not only does a primary level 6 not seem to equate to a secondary level 6 (which is supposed to be average for Y8 or 9 IIRC!) and they retest anyway!

Report
hattymattie · 12/05/2014 14:06

Lalsy - law and biology/zoology use lots of Latin. Failing that - a fabulous Mary Beard sort of career where you whizz round Cambridge being intellectual and make occasional TV programmes. These scholars seem to have a lovely life Envy.

I keep telling ds he'll only be tested again in Secondary so not to worry about it..... Aside for the L6 Maths paper (which he asked to do) we have done nothing in the way of 'revision' (it was the same when he took the entrance exam for the private school - we didn't coach him)

I think he just likes the idea of two (and possible three) breakfasts and is looking forward to the Friday water fight......

Stropps, it sounds like your DD would be much better off spending her time at home - DD can't concentrate on revising in class with others around. I am not even thinking of results day as the possibility of an anxiety attack in an exam is at the forefront of my mind too. She text to say her RE exam was long, but she finished it. This is really positive feedback as she usually says she flopped it for every exam!

My DC are very scathing about Latin - neither of them would remotely consider it. Neither DH or I took it and it doesn't seem to have ruined our careersSmile

And yes, SATs are for the schools/government, not the DC. And I find all the pushing to get L6 a little Hmm

Am also liking the Darling Crepes of May!
