Had a horrible day in Esher, dodging the rain. Horrible place, nothing to do, no shops (although did get a few novels in a charity shop). Ran from cafe to cafe dodging the rain, then got drenched taking DD1 to her sleepover. Came home via Tesco, which put me in a worse mood. Why do we have three (3, III) Tescos here, and no other supermarkets (apart from a nasty Costcutter)?

Am quivering with nerves here as have been invited to a party where the average age will be about 30 and the theme is "glam". Am about as glam as Wurzel Gummidge. Have put on loads of slap, which is Not Me and have even purchased special RED lipstick and RED nail varnish. (Have never worn red lipstick apart from once at a crepey meet and wasn't v. convinced by it, but still... all HOC recs from last year look vile imo). Have on cigarette jeans from Urban Outfitters as rec by Beachy and flowery silky top from Zara. Am worried that look like entrant to rural Glamorous Granny competition. Confused Have also got on Zara aviator-type jacket and red boots. Oh dear, I can't do clothes. It's tooooo hard.....

Stropperella · 10/05/2014 19:06

Will now go to neighbour's to neck sufficient quantities of Cava to get my courage up. Does not help that other friend who is going is of modelesque proportions and would look glam in a potato sack.

addle · 10/05/2014 19:11

have a lovely time stropps and your outfit sounds perfect

mrs s - esher AND tesco. you have my sympathy

just me and ds tonight. dh is in italy playing football. last night we watched '10 things i hate about you' (v good), now considering our teen options for tonight. such a relief after 'breaking bad' and 'house of cards'.

NearTheWindymill · 10/05/2014 19:12

Sorry to hear that Mrs S. Can't stand the place personally! There's not a bad music shop there - ABC I think.

NUFC69 · 10/05/2014 19:51

Stropps, that sounds great to me; I am sure you look just right. Enjoy your evening.

MrsS, my sympathies. We used to have a decent sized Tesco where I did all my shopping; however Tesco in its wisdom decided that it wasn't a big enough store and built a huge new one next door. I get a headache just driving into the carpark. Don't think I have ever been to Esher (lucky, moi?). Grin

NearTheWindymill · 10/05/2014 20:01

Mrs S just drive down to the Scouts roundabout and to the Sainsburys. It's luffly.

Oh Stropps, you do make me laaarfGrin I bet you look lovely. And the Cava sounds good!

Windy, the dress/wrap combo looks lovely.

MrsS, what made you think Esher would be anything other than boring?!

Have been testing DD on her RE (Monday) as DH and DS are at a footy thing ATM.

I think we might have 10 things I hate about you somewhere...

Beachy, I will definitely not be able to come on the 21st as not only are my teens off camping, DH wary of hairy-handed truckers, etc, but one of my oldest mates has chosen that weekend to come down with the family!

bigTillyMint · 10/05/2014 20:13

Rudy, get your gladrags on!

Addle, tell me more about your DH playing footy in Italy!

QueenQueenie · 10/05/2014 20:16

Glad to hear it's not just Stropps having a glamorous life! Have a good evening Stropps.
Like the dress v much Windy.

Have had nice day here - a lie in, a pottle about, a lovely lunch in fab tapas bar with just dh (unheard of!), cinema outing with ds2 to see The Wind Rises (new Studio Ghibli (?sp?) animation) which was v good, then a long overdue stagger ladyjog before collapsing on the sofa.

Have to go to the memorial service for my lovely friend who died over Easter tomorrow - the friend who wrote that piece for the Guardian about her illness that I linked to on here. It will be one of those weird v sad / yet somehow sociable occasions as I will know lots of people there that I haven't seen for ages (old colleagues in particular). Her poor boys though. Bloody awful. She wrote the invitation to the memorial herself and has asked that everyone coming writes a letter to her boys about their memories of her. Sad Sad Sad

stropps Euro -v- Glam. I think I'd go Glam - at least you can hit the wine in company.

NearTheWindymill · 10/05/2014 20:25

Oh QQ that is very sad. Will no doubt be very moving and remind everyone of the frailty of life.

bigTillyMint · 10/05/2014 20:30

Euro is on hereConfused

Looks like we are off on a 200mile round trip to buy a new car tomorrow. In the interests of DH getting a bargainConfused

originalpiratematerial · 10/05/2014 20:32

Oh QueenQueenie, I'm sorry.

NearTheWindymill · 10/05/2014 20:33

Did you think Iceland looked like the inside of a packet of smarties?

200 miles to look at a car Shock!

bigTillyMint · 10/05/2014 20:36

TBH, I'm not really watching - the rest of the family are!

Yes. Can't wait. We will be buying it whatever state it is in!

NearTheWindymill · 10/05/2014 20:40

DD thinks Armenia isn't half bad; I think he's just making a repetitive noise!

originalpiratematerial · 10/05/2014 20:49

Poor ds2, he really doesn't GET Poland.

NearTheWindymill · 10/05/2014 21:01

I didn't GET Poland. DD thought they were awesome.

Austria on the other hand is a more interesting concept altogther. The singing wasn't bad though.

addle · 10/05/2014 21:08

BTM, over-50s (!) World Cup, thank you for asking. In Verona, or rather on the shores of Lake Garda. Last year was Barcelona. V civilised, except for the football. (is not FA or anything but teams from all over world - eg Turkish Navy).
