Well someone had to do it....

Oh, QQ, I saw it in the Grauniad at the time. Interesting that she said the young were so much better at communicating: my DM says the same about her deafness.

Your friend will want her boys to remember what she was like when she could fully express herself and the letters will help them with that.

QueenQueenie · 10/05/2014 23:53

Oh and sorry to hear about your dog related injury Auriga. I'm a bit tardy with the empathy tonight!

Suffering is so hard to fathom - in all its aspects for those who are taken and those left behind.

Blackduck · 11/05/2014 07:51

QQ much strength today.
Hope everyone had a good evening.
Lots of late night phone calls/texts here but friend ok. It will be a long haul.

Back to bed for me - splitting headache.

Auriga · 11/05/2014 08:41

Dear God, Windy, I've just seen your post of yesterday on the cheating scumbag thread. What a story. Wish I'd known you when my ex dumped me out of the blue Grin you'd have been an inspiration.

NearTheWindymill · 11/05/2014 09:12

Well it was a lifetime away and at least I didn't marry him! He ended very unhappy.

lalsy · 11/05/2014 09:42

QQ, how terribly sad, I read the article when you posted it before.

MI, strength to your friend.

Stropperella · 11/05/2014 11:33

QQ, I'm very sorry to hear about your friend. I hope the memorial service goes well.
I'm feeling a bit fuzzy today after the excesses of last night. Got to bed at 2.30 after spending some time lying on the floor giggling after falling over while taking my boots off. Dh was like this -> Hmm Am a little worried about the photos that were taken while I was limbo dancing. And have just noticed that my knee is a bit sore from trying to do the splits. I blardy know I can't do them any more, so why did I try? Hmm

Blackduck · 11/05/2014 11:50

Stropps sounds like you had a good night!

motherinferior · 11/05/2014 11:57

Am trying to persuade my children that they will enjoy going out this afternoon. We are going, dammit. Why in hell's name are they being so utterly hopeless?Angry

CointreauVersial · 11/05/2014 12:41

MI - I long since gave up on that particular battle. DH and I go alone, and have much more fun.

Strops - it's good to know that the crepeys are still capable of inebriated and immature behaviour when the occasion calls for it. Wink While DH and I were cemented to the sofa watching Eurovision (like Leon and June from Gogglebox), you were being all together less sensible. Grin Keep it up (but maybe a few stretches before you limbo in future).

It's our 12th wedding anniversary today. And I totally forgot; only remembering when DH woke me up with a tray of croissants and a glass of bucks fizz. Blush

bigTillyMint · 11/05/2014 15:24

Stropps, hope they post the photos on FB - you are such a party animalSmile

Just back from the epic trip But at least we have the new carSmile And someone's coming round tonight to look at our old oneShock
Waved as I passed your gaff MrsS!

CV, I can't believe Leon is 80. Do you think June is a lot younger?
We often forget our anniversary!

NUFC69 · 11/05/2014 17:40

QQ, thank you for reposting the article: your friend sounds great. I hope today went ok? The memory notes for the children are a good idea. So difficult to lose someone young.

Sorry to hear the update on your friend, MI. it must be awful for everyone.

We've had a hectic few hours with DD et al, but at least it looks, fingers crossed, that they have found another house. There is a slight threat that they might descend on us en masse if they have to get out of their house early, but I am trying not to think about that.

We're hoping to go to Alnwick Gardens tomorrow if the weather is ok - I have a year's membership which expires next month.

CointreauVersial · 11/05/2014 18:09

Ooh, BTM, what variety of car did you go for in the end?

NearTheWindymill · 11/05/2014 18:32

shit, shit, shit. Unblocked the dishwasher and weak disc decided to have a little "bulge" as I got up. Have the week from hell at work. Have necked 75mg of Volterol; DH is on his way home from work and trying to find me some heat wraps on his way back. Physio tomorrow - dd's is planning on cooking dinner even though I've said I'll order in - helps avoid revision I think Hmm.

originalpiratematerial · 11/05/2014 18:45

Oh ouch Windymill, wish you better soon. Sounds as if you at least have A Plan, what with seeing physio tomorrow?

CointreauVersial · 11/05/2014 18:46

Oh no, that's miserable, Windy. Hopefully physio will sort it out. I had a weak disc that used to "go" on regular occasions (although it hasn't played up once since I started running four years ago, bizarrely). The most memorable time was when I sneezed while reaching to pick something up. Confused I was on my back for three days after that.

NearTheWindymill · 11/05/2014 18:47

Ooh yes, car, car, car. I quite like cars.

Yes, there's a plan, hardly the first time it's happened but will be on "slow" for at least six weeks Sad

NearTheWindymill · 11/05/2014 18:49

I've done that too CV - it's almost funny isn't it cynical Grin. Literally I just got up after all the hard bits were done.

bigTillyMint · 11/05/2014 18:56

NU I love Alnwick Smile

Got a Citroen C4 Grande Picasso. Only prob is that it was a motability car and I have to dash to the post office tomorrow to try to change the classification and get a new tax disc as there is no tax disc on itShock

Doesn't core strength help with weak backs?

NearTheWindymill · 11/05/2014 19:10

I have a C4, EGS, Picasso and it is fabulous - if you switch to manual it's like pretending to have a racing car (without the power) because of the little paddles on the steering wheel. I luffs it. Best value driving in the universe. I just wish DH was interested enough to have come with me to buy it. I had a first generation Picasso before that!

Core strength - is that something to do with Pilates? Hmm. I think it was the back to back labour with DS and then 10 weeks with DD in a wheelchair that killed it!!!! I try to be sooooo kind to it.

My GP said that when you are in pain for more of 12 months than not, you have the discs fused Shock. Her DH is an orthopaedic surgeon and I sort of trust her.

NearTheWindymill · 11/05/2014 19:11

What engine size is it and is it diesel or petrol?

bigTillyMint · 11/05/2014 19:43

Oh yes, ours has those things! It's a diesel and only 1.6, but it does have 7 seats so it's a bit of a bus! It's very strange not having a handbrake and I don't like not being able to burn off from a standstillGrin

Core strength is doing stuff that involves balancing and exercising the middle-bit of your body. I think! Stropps probably knows more.

herbaceous · 11/05/2014 19:51

Such sadness QQ and MI. I hope the service was as good as it could be, QQ. We were at the inlaws today, and there was usually at least one person crying about missing FiL. 'His' chair at the table has taken on great significance, and only DP and MiL seem 'allowed' to sit in it.

Was extremely bleary this morning. We had some friends round for Eurovision, and our cocktail-loving neighbours who brought six gin/vodka martinis, and a jug of earl grey 'punch', which seemed to also mainly comprise gin. Lord knows how many units that all added up to.

Had a curry also, then the usual MiL massive Sunday feast, so the ToT regime is not going all that well.

herbaceous · 11/05/2014 19:53

I don't think I'd like paddles for gears after all these years of 'stick shift'. Is it hard to get used to?
