Well someone had to do it....

OP posts:
Stropperella · 02/05/2014 22:48

Woah, Auriga, what a week. I hope you have a quiet weekend to recover and will be feeling better soon.

Bd,I am possibly the world's worst barmaid, but in my one and only bar job I pulled pints for Lauren Bacall, John Hurt and Davey Jones, among others. I expect I also gave them the wrong change along with their badly-pulled pint. Grin

happy bank holiday weekend, crepeys.

Blackduck · 03/05/2014 06:52

I doubt I will have such exalted company Stropps...

NUFC69 · 03/05/2014 07:06

We have woken up to a glorious blue morning, the second in a row - there might have been a frost, though. Forecast for the BH weekend is quite reasonable. Today is written off with (yet) more ironing and footie, tomorrow a visit to our favourite garden centre beckons. We need to get seeds sown, begonia corms planted, etc.

DS and family go away on holiday on Monday, and we haven't seen them since our break, so a brief visit needs to be made.

I hope your birthday treat goes well, BD. Your DH handled the reluctant mum very well.

hattymattie · 03/05/2014 07:54

BD beer festival sounds fun. Here it is a lovely day and I'm hoping for some heat so I can line dry clothes. DH tiling the washing machine room so it's plugged in the middle of the kitchen doing an emergency wash - not convenient.

DD1 has a mock exam this morning and get this - a revision session at her teacher's house tomorrow afternoon I'm impressed.

Blackduck · 03/05/2014 07:54

Thanks NU! Lovely and sunny, sarnies packed - looking like a good day.

motherinferior · 03/05/2014 09:34

Produced surprisingly rice-based nice meal out of stuff we had and then went off to quaff red wine with friend and return with two (2, ii) bulging carrier bags mostly of nail varnish. Inferiorettes are blissful Grin

bigTillyMint · 03/05/2014 09:48

Hatty, that reminds me of A level Chemistry - our teacher was ill (can't remember what it was, maybe hospital and then recovery) and we had to go to his house for some sessionsShock

BD, have fun! Good on your DH - mine would have left that phone call to me.

Tis lovely and sunny here too - am off to meet a friend for vanilla teaSmile

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 03/05/2014 10:05

I am baking bread and lemon polenta muffins this morning. And making Hungarian stuffed peppers in memory of my aunt and uncle for an early dinner before rushing off to catch the 185.

Stropperella · 03/05/2014 10:12

Hope everyone has a great time today, BD.

I took MrsS's and BTM's advice and did a Spanish omelette last night with lots of chorizo, potatoes, onions, pepper and courgette. Got a rapturous reception. I got slightly carried away knocking back the Rioja whilst cooking, though and then mistakenly thought it would be a good idea to move onto some Chianti. Woke up at 6 with a banging headache. Only consolation was when I moaned "I should have known better" to dh, he groaned, clutched his head and said "So should I". Still, nothing a bacon sarnie and a couple of ibuprofen couldn't fix. Grin

bigTillyMint · 03/05/2014 10:13

MrsS, will you be bringing any samples?Grin

herbaceous · 03/05/2014 10:38

I too am a bit fragile this morning after classy night out. We had a cocktail in the bar of the St Pancras hotel, then dinner over the road in the refurbed Great Northern Hotel - Plum and Spilt Milk. Glass of prosecco, then delicious bottle of red.

I had a masterly prawn cocktail, just the right proportions of lettuce, prawns and piquancy, then a rib of beef 'bourgingon', which must have been cooked for about five years, it was so rich. And delicious parsnip mash, about 95% butter. Annoyingly, couldn't fit in a pudding. DP had a plate of charcuterie, and chilli and peanut squid.

Would recommend. Lovely room, friendly staff, delicious food. Pricey, mind.

hattymattie · 03/05/2014 10:38

Stropps - I cannot cook and drink - I forget I'm in charge of the kitchen and things get burnt, not cooked and everything generally grinds to a halt.

DH has just put the dishwasher on eco wash which takes three hours so we will have no cutlery or glasses until 2.30 - late lunch I reckon!

hattymattie · 03/05/2014 10:39

Sounds fabulous Herbs.Smile

herbaceous · 03/05/2014 11:31

Even more fabulously, DS didn't wake up until 9am, no donut because he didn't go to bed until 9.30, thanks to persuading the babysitter to let him watch Frozen.

Maybe Friday movie night and Saturday lie in could become a 'thing'!

NUFC69 · 03/05/2014 13:23

Herbs, is that the first time DS has watched it? Grin Your meal sounds lovely; I am soldiering on with a diet to try to remove some of the weight I put on with the cruise. DH put on one kilo; I am pretty certain that I put on half a stone but am refusing to weigh myself - blinkered emoticon.

CointreauVersial · 03/05/2014 13:39

Herbs - sounds like a lovely evening out.

I also hit the bottle last night, but it was purely for medicinal purposes. Wink After two large hot whiskeys I slept like a log. My cold is much diminished this morning. How is yours, Auriga?

I've been quite lazy so far today; had a lie in, a nice bath, and tried out my new Cracked Heel Remover tool thingy, which I bought with my Boots Advantage points. It was like sanding plaster and immensely satisfying; clouds of dust emitted from my horny heels as I got to work. Then I slathered on the heel balm. It it still a work-in-progress, but with another session or two I should be flip-flop-fabulous.

It is sunny but chilly here today, but the garden centre beckons. I want to replace a few clumps of perennial geraniums (which spread everywhere) and maybe get some annuals to jazz things up.

motherinferior · 03/05/2014 14:00

CV, you sound alarmingly like the sort of thing we had to write when I was working on the B*ts magGrin

Stropperella · 03/05/2014 14:21

I have spent the morning doing the usual taxi-ing to swimming lessons, walking the dog, going to the farm stores shop to buy tar and fencing supplies and doing 3 loads of washing to hang on the line outside as it is lovely and sunny. I still have 10 pages of work to revise tonight. Am now off to collect dvd from library for ds and get some local chocs for pile of goodies for aged uncle and will then mow the lawn and possibly put the fence up. Or maybe that will be Monday's job.

I shouldn't have written that. I feel tired now. Grin Or maybe I am just coming down from the massive sugar high I got from having a lunch that consisted of a huuuuge slice of battenberg and a banana. Grin

Auriga · 03/05/2014 14:31

Still in bed. Swallowing & coughing v. sore. Migraine explosion in early hours. Fed up. DH gone to rehearsal Sad.

bigTillyMint · 03/05/2014 15:16

Just done one taxi-service, seems like another's looming...

bigTillyMint · 03/05/2014 15:23

Auriga, sounds like you need some of CV's medicinal whiskeyWink

Herbs, the food sounds delish!

CV Grin

motherinferior · 03/05/2014 15:27

I am having a nap. I think I had one too many glasses of red wine last night and am gearing up to see MrsS and BTM later. Have pile of gory novels from library. Also some freebie Filorga skincare along with about a hundred (100, C) nail polishes. LiterallyGrin

hattymattie · 03/05/2014 15:29

DD1 has come back from her mock exam completely worn out, Exam went OK but I think it's all catching up with her. Have put her outside on a deckchair as she looks pale and wan (now I'm sounding like my mother). The trouble is it's lovely in the sun and then freezing every time a cloud arrives.

Blackduck · 03/05/2014 15:34

Auriga :(

I am sitting working on the lap top wondering how dp's day is going - I suspect he will need a drink tonight!

I have done birthday shopping (a friends tomorrow and ds on Tuesday) and need to write cards and wrap up.

wish I could meet MrsS, MI and BTM tonight - any chance of planning something round half term or is that a real no no for everyone....

bigTillyMint · 03/05/2014 15:43

BD, I will be here at the end of half-term (well, maybe from Weds, but depends on DD really!)

I have done another taxi-ride, got to ferry a duvet later (WTF) - think it would be easier (and cheaper) if we moved to SydenhamGrin
