Well someone had to do it....

The thought of actually wanting to see ones DH on a Saturday night sounds quite appealing!

Wassup MI?

motherinferior · 02/05/2014 13:20

Oh, just the constant tellings-off. I may be wrong. Herbs is most consoling on the way it's always like this.

herbaceous · 02/05/2014 13:29

I doubt very much you're about to be sacked - you're the lynchpin holding the thing together. You're also the common factor for everyone, and a conduit for blame.

I used to cope by swearing copiously, bitching to colleagues, and imagining sending clients this useful 'aide memoire'.

herbaceous · 02/05/2014 13:32

Imagine my joy. I had about 15 clients, mainly councils, with my contacts generally only working 2.5 hours a week, with overbearing chief execs wanting to be copious quoted in every feature. Each mag had a complex approval process, and often tight deadlines, usually clashing with another mag. I had a mad designer, and a flaky writer. And an ulcer.

CointreauVersial · 02/05/2014 13:32

Auriga - how stressful. Good that you were able to help (and didn't go up in flames for your trouble).

MI - would it bother you??

Drinkies sounds appealing, but I have been battling a cold for the last couple of days, and intend to be curled up on my sofa in a cosy cardi, clutching a hot whisky by 7pm at the latest.

We have nothing planned for the weekend. Not sure if this is a good thing, or whether I will feel cheated when Tuesday morning rolls around.

herbaceous · 02/05/2014 13:36

We've got an easy weekend. 'Date night' tonight (for which I need to clean the house for the babysitter), rearranging the sitting room tomorrow, Sunday lunch with NCT pal on Sunday, and May Fair in local park on Sunday. About the right level of activity.

motherinferior · 02/05/2014 13:51

I see I'm booked in for a meeting with client in June so they certainly don't seem to want to sack me

herbaceous · 02/05/2014 13:57

Take along my aide memoire.

Blackduck · 02/05/2014 14:31

Love the aide memoire....

Despite my polite text I have had no response Hmm

Any ideas how I might 'uninvite'?

QueenQueenie · 02/05/2014 14:33

Love the useful graphics Herbs. Hope your date with dp is fab - very interested to hear what the restaurant is like, report back please.

Sorry to hear of annoying work people MI. In my old life / career I swore constantly to an Olympic standard as did all my colleagues with whom I shared a room... the air was visibly blue. We loved each other dearly but only in a united against all the arses we had to deal with kind of way... on Fridays we would drink pink fizz at 6.00. I miss the camaraderie but not much else (except the money).

Happy weekends to all. TGIF and all that.
Have a g and t for me tomorrow you pub goers.

bigTillyMint · 02/05/2014 15:06

Well I have had an afternoon of very annoying childrenGrin TGIF indeed!

motherinferior · 02/05/2014 15:11

BD, can you face ringing and saying with lots of sympathy how sorry you are the little bugger poor child can't make it?

bigTillyMint · 02/05/2014 15:20

Text saying I guess you haven't had time to reply as you must be busy looking after DS - so sorry he can't make it this time, hope he feels better soon?

Auriga · 02/05/2014 16:55

Dosed myself up and got to work this morning in Canterbury and Ashford (which involved driving past miles of bluebell woods - just glorious). Felt rubbish and now really sick, in bed, trying not to cough or speak. No singing or pub for me tomorrow, I suspect Sad. You're right MI, trying to struggle through when you can't take a proper breath is just misery.

Off to look at cute puppies and kittens to cheer myself up

Hope everyone will have a peaceful and restorative weekend.

Auriga · 02/05/2014 17:09

And QQ I can see you turning the air blue with your former colleagues, bet you can swear like a pirate Grin.

We're usually very PC round our way but the senior staff meeting yesterday reached a consensus that one of my persecutors is 'just an arsehole', which was a) cathartic and b) useful. I decided to stop trying to reason with him and kick it up to Chief Execs to sort out.

motherinferior · 02/05/2014 17:41

Auriga, I text DD1 a pic of a cat most days Blush She claims I am a mad cat stalker but gets most huffy if I haven't found a new and fetching pose for her. Today one of ours was in the tilted washing basket, nestling in it like a sort of rocker. Among clean pants (not mine).

Cremolafoam · 02/05/2014 18:12

Blush Also a secret cat-photo sender here( mostly to dd but also to another cat adoring friend) I can see this behaviour continuing during dds first year at university tbh. Whatever gets you through the day.. Shallow!? No surely not.

Dcremolacat1 is in a sorry way. He is limping now and dd found a leg wound this afternoon, so back to the vet again tomorrow.

motherinferior · 02/05/2014 18:25

I have no (zero, 0) idea what to produce for supper, being devoid of either energy or enthusiasm for Proper Cooking. DD1 suggests pasta, which DD2 had for lunch. I suggest egg'n'chips (food of the gods) but DD1 had chips for lunch. Our fridge is not stocked with a mass of delicious foodstuffs, but we have sausages (meat and veggie); however, they had sausages chez friend on Thursday. I have also dug fishcakes out of the freezer already this week...

bigTillyMint · 02/05/2014 18:32

The DC requested chicken pie and chips, both of which were readily available in the freezerWink
Mine would happily eat chips at every meal and try to when we are on holiday

QueenQueenie · 02/05/2014 18:38

Sorry to be no help at all but I'm off to the Vietnamese later! Grin

Cremolafoam · 02/05/2014 19:12

EnvyQQ save me some of those delicious crispy squid things.

QueenQueenie · 02/05/2014 19:46

Of course! Shall I keep them until I next see you or post them? x

OP posts:
NUFC69 · 02/05/2014 20:12

Auriga, I hope you feel better soon - the bug sounds miserable.

Crem, hope the visit to the vet is successful. NUcat is curled up on the settee feeling very happy we're home. The intruding white cat has obviously been causing stress in our absence. A water pistol has been purchased.

DGS, aged 3.3, wants to know (a) why people's eyes work together and don't generally look in different directions, and (b) how your tummy works. DD thinks a book might help explain - any suggestions welcome. I had an excellent children's encyclopedia when I was small, is there something similar? MI, I know you're knowledgeable about health things, any ideas?

We had Cajun Chicken with couscous for dinner; couscous is made with spring onions, sweetcorn, peas and lime juice and peel - delicious.

I hope everyone has a good night and a great weekend. Thank God it's the last weekend we have a football match to go to - decidedly off the "beautiful game".

Blackduck · 02/05/2014 20:56

I gave do the job of phoning at 7.30 tonight - she was still faffing so dp firmly stated it wasn't fair on him - hour there and back in car etc etc. so after a ten minute convo he got her to pull out (phew). Thirty second convo - Sim is go - to other parent - job done.......

I seem to have been roped into the local beer festival (I have never pulled a pint in my life....)

Auriga · 02/05/2014 22:34

Thanks, NUFC. Nothing for it but to give in (not very gracefully).
