Kate Down Under...the fashion verdict so far...

Changed my username when I changed my password but am a regular...

Thought we could enjoy a (shallow and lighthearted, yes) analysis of Kate's antipodean wardrobe choices?

I'm finding it all a bit matchy matchy so far, all the colour blocking reminds me of the queen herself.

Would like to see we in more trousers other than the skinny navy jeans + Breton combo which has been done to death.

Isn't it funny how different we all can be - I absolutely hated the white broderie anglaise lacy dress - it was so ageing and didn't fit properly. And the yellow dress - just ghastly. Awful colour that suits nobody.

She is stick thin and I always think everything looks bit big.

santamarianovella · 19/04/2014 17:04

So far i think its the hair and footwear, and dated makeup
Her hair really makes her outfits look a bit oldish, and its such a shame she wore some nice things, and she is very pretty .,i just can't believe she needs a hairdresser to achieve this kind of hair, it looks so ordinary, and just too made up,although she is going for a natural look I think.
queen rania of Jordan usually has amazing hair,it always looks so good, even if its just left down, very healthy and natural looking although im sure she has one of the world's top stylists doing her hair ,but it always looks amazing, ,and she dresses somewhat classically but its not againg her, infect it makes her look much younger than she is, because hair and makeup are spot on

Her sister's hair is shorter and looks nice.

My friend saw her sister in rl recently and said she was teeny tiny. She's a good bit bigger than Kate so Kate must be reed thin.

Sorry this

Kate Down Under...the fashion verdict so far...
squoosh · 19/04/2014 17:39

I don't think she'd get away with wearing something like the long pink dress again, the DM would work themselves into a 'side boob' frenzy!

Could someone link to what kind of shoes you think she should be wearing?

I do find all of this confusing, but I am American and I think generally our style defaults are a bit more conservative.

FallonColby · 19/04/2014 18:58

Does anyone else think she wears hair extensions?

sara11272 · 19/04/2014 19:20

I generally like Kate's clothes - I agree with others who've said she has a really hard job to find a balance between approropriate for future queen/frumpy.

I was a huge fan of Diana's style as a child - but looking back as an adult at what she wore, it was WAY older than Kate's style - look at the pics of her Australian tour - she was only 21/22 but was dressing like someone 20 years older. I know it was the 80s and everything was a bit more formal but still.... Think her choices were loads more staid than Kate's.

I think they are similar in that they are/were in roles where they have to dress safely, but also that that probably suits their natural style - possibly Kate even more than Diana.

Diana seemed to embrace being a bit more 'edgy' (if still in a slightly Sloaney/90s way) once she was free of the Royal family - I couldn't see Kate doing the same - I think Kate's natural tendencies are much more to blend in and fit the mould.

This thread is interesting in showing how different everyone's tastes are - such variation in what we all think looks best.

Today's blue flower dress I think is lovely, but I'm not such a fan of the lace one from yesterday. I think Kate looks best in sleek, tailored looks rather than the 'little girly' lace and full skirted dresses.

squoosh · 19/04/2014 19:26

She definitely has hair extensions!

polyhymnia · 19/04/2014 19:48

Yes, agree on hair extensions.

StatisticallyChallenged · 19/04/2014 19:58

I'm not sure re the hair extensions - my hair easily looks that full if I wear it in that style. And she's always had loads of hair!

squoosh · 19/04/2014 20:01

I'd put money on her having a few discreet extensions. Her hair was never as thick and lustrous as it is these days.

SquidgyMummy · 19/04/2014 20:20

Re: The extensions, looking at Kate's natural hair just after the birth of George, I would say she doesn't have them as she has naturally curly hair (hence "need" for daily blow-drys)

In terms of fashion, I actually think Roland Mouret's Victoria Beckham's clothes would suit her. Designed for super skinny women with no hips.

Like this - just no black on the top half

HermioneWeasley · 19/04/2014 20:25

Friend has her hair done at same salon as KM and she def has hair extensions

HermioneWeasley · 19/04/2014 20:26

Is KM sponsored by LKBennett?

SwedishEdith · 19/04/2014 22:01

Just noticed how much she looks like Mel C

saffronwblue · 19/04/2014 23:58

I would like to see her with a bit more weight on and with softer makeup and with hair up more. I think at the moment she looks very angular with harsh makeup.

JohnCusacksWife · 20/04/2014 00:37

To be honest I couldn't care less if she's for extensions. She looks lovely in the photos. A friend if mine who now lives down under has met her on this tour and couldn't get over how friendly and relaxed they both were. And how stunning Kate was in real life.

GiddyUpCowboy · 20/04/2014 05:44

I think it is all her own hair

GiddyUpCowboy · 20/04/2014 05:46

Did she have Carole's Mother of the Bridge outfit on today?

That high collar suits her.

BitOutOfPractice · 20/04/2014 05:51

Does this woman only havec3 pairs of shoes? Nude courts. Black courts. Wedges.

It's been the same for years. Suck to death of seeing the same. Bloody. Shoes.

JapaneseMargaret · 20/04/2014 06:31

Her hair's not that remarkable slash amazing. I don't think she's got extensions, it's just that she can afford an on-tap hairdresser these days.

Many, many people are blessed with thick hair, believe me!

JapaneseMargaret · 20/04/2014 06:32

Or, should I say, 'blessed'...
