Kate Down Under...the fashion verdict so far...

Changed my username when I changed my password but am a regular...

Thought we could enjoy a (shallow and lighthearted, yes) analysis of Kate's antipodean wardrobe choices?

I'm finding it all a bit matchy matchy so far, all the colour blocking reminds me of the queen herself.

Would like to see we in more trousers other than the skinny navy jeans + Breton combo which has been done to death.

Patrick Grant is pretty mainstream now. Doesn't he make suits for M&S/Debenhams too?

But Patrick Grant is bloody gorgeous. William is not. He'll look even more like Uncle Eddie when he finally shaves his bonce.

Patrick Grant gorgeous? If you like that Tom Ford style of man who uses a slide rule to measure the precision of his facial hair cut, then go for it.

Your taxes don't pay for them. They are funded by the Duchy of Cornwall.

Yes, his look is a bit fussy for my taste.

I liked the grey one.

The neckline was a lot higher than when she first wore it though.

I can appreciate him like a piece of fine art. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be up for getting rumpled with me Wink.

I agree with pp who said Kate would wear her clothes better with a little bit of weight on her.

I agree with the others who have said these are her work clothes/she is not trying to attract all the attention wearing latest fashion etc and no matter what she does she will never please everyone.
Wears dresses for a second time-not showcasing fashion
Wears designer bespoke dresses-costing us too much money etc
When she wore shorter dresses they were way too short, now she's wearing longer hemlines she's seen as frumpy.

I think she's an attractive woman and always seems well presented.
Her hair seems a little shorter than it was previously.

Grin at the idea that tax payers don't contribute anything towards them.

Do you really think the sum total of Charles (and their) life is one of private funding?

Ha ha.

I'm sorry, but every time I see this thread pop up, I think it's about some sort of Aussie sequel to 'Kate plus eight'... I had to read it twice to be sure it wasn't, yet that still pops into my head each time.

Mignonette why on earth would a designer care who buys their clothes? The money works just as well regardless who it is from.

I think Kate looks amazing in that coffee shift dress.

Just because you don't like her doesn't mean that designers aren't happy to see her wearing their dresses...

Alibaba I think what Mig meant was that if Kate gets a reputation for making clothes look a bit frumpy then having her wear your clothes isn't always a good thing. I think, however, that the large majority of people like Kate's style and it's true that the high st stuff she wears sells out immediately. It's just some designers can be quite snooty about the image they want to portray.

Quite like today's pinks dress, the v neck and drop waist make it a bit more interesting. Still the same dull shoes though.

I love the dress today and her hair up. It's much fresher. Same shoes, she must just love them.

Of course designers care who buy their clothes. Years ago when Trinny and Susannah were doing TV make overs, Karen Millen flat out refused to dress Jo Brand. They said they didn't want her representing their clothes.

I think Kate should wear jeans and casual clothes all the time, she looks great in themGrin

But enough people like Kate's style for designers to be happy though.

McQueen try to give her more of a balance for her masculine triangle shape and in doing so a more feminine figure.

See, I think those cuff court shoes are awful.

And when I'm at work, I avoid flats like the plague. Just goggled Kate's height and I'm a cm and a half taller than her. I don't need the height, but I like it! Flats make me feel frumpy, when I'm work clothes.

Can we actually think of a single person - man or woman - who dresses in a way EVERYONE likes and approves of?

Such a person doesn't exist - because it's impossible. It's a fun pastime coming up with alternative ideas for Kate's wardrobe, but we're no more likely to get it 100% right, 100% of the time, than she is.

So she might as well go with her own preferences.

I think she gets it as close to right for her as she possibly can. And the sales figures for the accessible items she wears seem to rabidly back that up.

Today's coat was too warm for todays heat was and she admitted sweltering in it herself. I also thin it's too similar to the previous green coat ( why pack two ? )

Still love her though look [ grin]

Ali

I can assure you that designers most certainly DO care who buys their clothes. I say this from a position of knowing this.

The wrong person in their clothing can damage thousands of pounds of image creation and PR.

Of course they care.
