Kate Down Under...the fashion verdict so far...

Changed my username when I changed my password but am a regular...

Thought we could enjoy a (shallow and lighthearted, yes) analysis of Kate's antipodean wardrobe choices?

I'm finding it all a bit matchy matchy so far, all the colour blocking reminds me of the queen herself.

Would like to see we in more trousers other than the skinny navy jeans + Breton combo which has been done to death.

Me too in reality, but I wouldn't be if I were 32, size 6 and with her budget! Grin

MarshaBrady · 14/04/2014 11:58

Tory Burch is great for that youthful, classic look. Who do we have here like that?

VB too fashiony, too 'Posh' Beckham - do they mix? Viv Westwood still quirky.

What's classic and non-starchy but youthful... Temperley a bit twee.

Philoslothy · 14/04/2014 11:59

I think VB is quite safe with a slight edge so would be good for her.

Philoslothy · 14/04/2014 12:02

Tory Burch looks like the kind of stuff that I would wear, and I am the wrong side of 40. It advertises itself as Bohemian, it really isn't.

Legologgo · 14/04/2014 12:03

those

bloody

wedges

Legologgo · 14/04/2014 12:03

anf Kate STOP WEARING HATS
no one wears hats

MarshaBrady · 14/04/2014 12:06

The stuff she wears that is nice and young sells out in hours/ days. She's probably right to throw in high st. She should have both.

sassytheFIRST · 14/04/2014 12:07

Arf at wedges and hats.

I'd offer, FGS, cut your hair.

sassytheFIRST · 14/04/2014 12:08

And goes without saying, PUT THE EYELINER DOWN.

(Am natural myself, obvs.)

sassytheFIRST · 14/04/2014 12:09

Natural stunner, that should say.

ParkingFred · 14/04/2014 12:54

It's all so dull. She's got an amazing figure and great legs, but she dresses like someone 20 years older.

The all red thing with the hat was horrendous.

I like her hair though, but not put up - doesn't suit her. Her hair is often the only youthful thing about her.

santamarianovella · 14/04/2014 13:13

her outfits so far are very nice apart from that red coat with pillbox hat. The McQueen blue coat was very elegant, and her hair looks nice pulled back, she also wore some Emilia wickstead and erdeam which looked great, she does have a stylist, and they are doing a good job, all these pieces look custom made, and perfect for the tour , she needs to look smart,
but the one outfit that truly was so "her" was the Breton top with blazer, you definitely can tell its her style and she felt comfortable wearing it,the other outfits looked like she was playing dress up,

Philoslothy · 14/04/2014 13:16

It's all so dull. She's got an amazing figure and great legs, but she dresses like someone 20 years older.

Ahem, can we stick with 10 years older?

Chocolateteabag · 14/04/2014 13:21

I agree with pp above - would be good to see her in "her" choice of young British designers. Her main outfits for public outings are so stage managed by the Royal "firm" (hats, lower hemlines etc) - when she is off duty she is wearing high street (she used to do Bicester a lot and now has her mum/sister go for her) - if she wore designers a bit more she could really get some £££ into the Uk.

But then she'd be slagged off for wearing £££ clothes - either as freebies or spending "our" money on them. I really don't envy her life tbh - apart from her amazing figure

WipsGlitter · 14/04/2014 13:25

I think she looks ok, but some of it is a bit frumpy and boring. I think they should do away with the hats getting off the plane, it isn't necessary.

The hemlines have definitely come down! I'm not sure about the stiletto heels, I think they're a bit... tarty.

I think Michelle Obama dresses amazingly for a public figure.

saadia · 14/04/2014 13:37

I think she looks ok but a lot of her clothes have a very similar silhouette and some of the coats are really dull. She could get some inspiration from Princess Mary of Denmark, they have similar figures and colouring - not saying she should copy but Princess Mary has a lot more variety and patterns in her clothes. Kate's look is too safe and samey and I agree about being sick of those skinny jeans, I think they make here look out of proportion as she has quite broad shoulders.

SpringyReframed · 14/04/2014 13:41

Her clothes are boring like her. I hate her hair, and think she should see a good hairdresser.

I loved Diana's style and agree that Kate should get some advice from Vogue and showcase some British Fashion. After all our industries are the sort of thing the Royals are supposed to be earning their crust promoting these days isnt it?

I do confess I havent read up on who made what for her as her clothes just leave me cold.

Philoslothy · 14/04/2014 13:56

Denmark and Middleton fashion off

Philoslothy · 14/04/2014 14:00

I am not sure how similar these too are, definelty not dopplegangers as the Mail suggests. However it may illustrate that Kate dresses 10 years older than she is

Perhaps though women in their 40s don't dress that differently from women in their 30s. I am not aware that my style has changed that much. Maybe we are being harsh.

santamarianovella · 14/04/2014 14:31

I think the Danish royal family ate not as strict as the British maybe? They seem to live a more "normal" life for royals that is,and maybe not imply strict fashion dos and donts,

philoslothy you are right, there is no difference between the way a 40 year old dresses and a 30, even late 20s I would say.

santamarianovella · 14/04/2014 14:32

Are* !

hollyisalovelyname · 14/04/2014 14:42

I heard there was a diktat from the palace to lower the hemlines Smile In the know, me.. NOT...........Daily Mail.
She has an amazing figure. Does she eat?
I was sad to see she followed the 'Royal Rule' and now wears tights instead of bare ( fake tanned)legs - i thought she'd have the guts to do her own thing.
She has played a blinder up to now.
The Palace must be thrilled with her.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 14/04/2014 14:55

She's always worn tights, which is a good thing IMO. Bare, fake-tanned legs are the height of chav.

Kate does pretty well I think. She is dammed either way with the hemlines, either they are 'frumpy' or she goes a bit shorter and then a gust of wind hits and the paps are trying to take pictures of her knickers.

TheLateMrsLizCromwell · 14/04/2014 15:09

Agree to some extent about the damned if she does/damned if she doesn't, but - she is young! And if you aren't adventurous when you are young and can be, you will regret it when you are Queen, and can't Grin

Ardiente · 14/04/2014 15:14

Another royal she should look at is Princess Letizia of Spain. Always appropriate, yet so much more interesting in her fashion choices. And 10 years older ;-)
