Kate Down Under...the fashion verdict so far...

Changed my username when I changed my password but am a regular...

Thought we could enjoy a (shallow and lighthearted, yes) analysis of Kate's antipodean wardrobe choices?

I'm finding it all a bit matchy matchy so far, all the colour blocking reminds me of the queen herself.

Would like to see we in more trousers other than the skinny navy jeans + Breton combo which has been done to death.

I am watching the Sound of Music. Kate's dress from the zoo is like Gretel's when she was singing good night on the stairs.

Kate Down Under...the fashion verdict so far...
ChinUpChestOut · 20/04/2014 13:10

I'm over 50, and I wouldn't wear a LOT of what Kate is choosing. Even if you have to be conservative with the dresses etc re length, flying up in the wind, sleeve length - you could definitely have some fun with the shoes.

And the hair? Oh please tie it back, put it up, wear it straight - just DO something with it! She doesn't look properly 'dressed' with it just hanging loose.

specialsubject · 20/04/2014 13:14

the ghastly lacy dress for the beach was just horrible - which bring-and-buy sale did that come from? And huge heels on the beach is so, so fashion victim.

did see one dress where the skirt doesn't blow up but she can still walk normally. It can be done. Also long hair needs to be tied back on windy days so you aren't forever brushing it back. She could just pull out the ponytail band when she goes indoors, I'm sure she can style her own hair.

she badly needs to eat, those bony legs and arms are not good. She would be lovely with another stone on, with height like that she needs it.

hollyisalovelyname · 20/04/2014 16:33

I loved the lacy dress.
Goes to show - you can please some of the people some of the time etc
BUT
You can't please all the people all the time.

PainterPete · 22/04/2014 10:50

Give the girl a break! She's gorgeous. Hair looks good and who cares about shoes & stuff with a smile like Kate's? William: stop by the barbers and ask got a GRADE ONE cut!

specialsubject · 22/04/2014 10:57

I agree that she is really pretty with a lovely smile and beautiful hair. Also gives the impression that there is something between the ears.

just a shame she is often so badly dressed and is so underweight. Sack the stylists, eat some food.

squoosh · 22/04/2014 11:02

'William: stop by the barbers and ask got a GRADE ONE cut!'

YES. His hair is dreadful, they should pop into Argos and buy a hair strimmer. Would take years off him.

susannahmoodie · 22/04/2014 11:25

But what exactly between the ears??

She seems simpering and bland. Don't know her opinions on anything. Or is that the way they want her to be?

polyhymnia · 22/04/2014 11:51

Have to say I agree with susannah. Simpering and bland just about sums up the impression she makes for me. Never had a proper job before marriage. Hard to imagine she would have anything interesting to say. But all that is probably an asset in her current 'job' as are her 'safe' fashion choices.

Mignonette · 22/04/2014 12:06

Dull dull dull dull dull Dull dull dull dull dull Dull dull dull dull dull Dull dull dull dull dull Dull dull dull dull dull Dull dull dull dull dull Dull dull dull dull dull Dull dull dull dull dull

Little Englander style. Quite possibly the Worlds most boring couple.

BitOutOfPractice · 22/04/2014 12:10

Nude fucking court fucking shoes. Again.

Kill me now!

Saski · 22/04/2014 12:12

I love the Roksanda Ilinicic dress.

slackcabbage · 22/04/2014 12:19

Poor girl. Criticised if she spends money on designer clothes, criticised for being unimaginative if she wears high street stuff, criticised if she wears boring designer stuff (but would be criticised for being dressed inappropriately if it was too cutting edge). I'm ambivalent about the monarchy but think she is doing pretty well in the circs. It must be pretty tough to be under such unrelenting scrutiny.

The point is that the clothes shouldn't be the main focus ... they are meant to be on the boring side ... she is doing a job ...the focus should be on the projects they are visiting and the people they are meeting .. not on the outfits.

[Fwiw though Wink I liked the yellow dress but thought the white patch made it look, from a distance, like her underskirt was showing ... Grin

slackcabbage · 22/04/2014 12:20

And not sure having opinions is part of the job description ...

Saski · 22/04/2014 12:23

Is there such a thing as having sweat absorbers sewn into dresses? I've never heard of this. A fantastic idea.

BitOutOfPractice · 22/04/2014 12:37

slack I don't know of anyone else in the world except me and my mom who uses the term "underskirt" - oh you've made me smile thank you

She could spend whtever she likes on shoes. I wouldn't care. So long as they're not nude courts Angry

FoxyHarlow123 · 22/04/2014 12:43

She could have an opinion though couldn't she? If she developed an interest in something and educated herself on that subject and became known for having a considered opinion on it, she might gain a bit more respect for what's between her ears, rather than what's on her feet. In the interim, I likes looking at her pretty frocks I does.

Nowitscleanugobshite · 22/04/2014 12:51

I don't mind the frocks. But does she always have to wear one? Would trousers at the zoo, the beach or at Uluru be such a problem? And definitely get the hair cut William!! It took years off his mum when she went from the 80s flicks to the crop and it'd take years off him too!

Mignonette · 22/04/2014 12:51

One of her jobs is to promote British business and one of our major success stories is our fashion. Let's face it, she isn't exactly overwhelmed with work is she?

If I was Roksanda I'd ban her from my clothing. That dress has made anybody remotely stylish cross her range off their list. Kate might 'sell' clothing to hordes of middle aged, middle England Mother-Of-The-Brides (the most appropriate age group and style group for the outfits she wears) but to people who really love fashion? Nope.

littleducks · 22/04/2014 12:56

There are some unofficial paparazzi pics doing the rounds online. She is wearing jeans and a trait. I think that is probably far more get.

PainterPete · 22/04/2014 13:01

SO, Kate is gorgeous and smart too. She's smart enough not to crow about it too. Slow burner! William get yourself in the barbers chair for a grade one crop pronto. And, whilst your at it Will promote British tailoring and don a few well cut tailored suits too. Dress like Patrick Grant and you can't go wrong Will. Guess you ladies will be Googling my tailor Patrick on Saville Row - swoon now, ha, ha!

squoosh · 22/04/2014 13:02

Everyone knows who Patrick Grant is these days.
