Kate Down Under...the fashion verdict so far...

Changed my username when I changed my password but am a regular...

Thought we could enjoy a (shallow and lighthearted, yes) analysis of Kate's antipodean wardrobe choices?

I'm finding it all a bit matchy matchy so far, all the colour blocking reminds me of the queen herself.

Would like to see we in more trousers other than the skinny navy jeans + Breton combo which has been done to death.

Love today's blue and white dress.

GiddyUpCowboy · 19/04/2014 02:37

Yes the blue and white poppy is the best so far.

squoosh · 19/04/2014 03:18

Today's dress is nice, but the black heels don't go with it at all! I notice all her dresses have sleeves to the elbow. Do you think she's been told to conceal her upper arms? Do only proles bare their upper arms?

:-/ I have to say, I don't like the blue and white poppy dress at all. Looks like something M&S would churn out.

susannahmoodie · 19/04/2014 07:48

Today's dress is ok but the shoes, aargh the shoes!!!

I'm wondering about the clutch bags as well, seems so awkward to be clutching it all the time. Not sure what the alternative is though.

sugarandspite · 19/04/2014 08:18

But why does she even need to carry a bag when she's 'working'? Surely she has staff to carry stuff for her?!

sassytheFIRST · 19/04/2014 08:32

Give her hands something to do. Stop her nibbling her nails when bored, like the rest of us.

EasterSundaySimmons · 19/04/2014 12:40

I think she dresses appropriately for her role and always looks vivacious and elegant.

Her clothes and looks are second to her personality and she appears to be a charming, engaging and warm woman. It can be difficult and/or boring to make small talk with strangers, knowing that your every move is scrutinised, but she comes across as being sincere and looks effortlessly at ease.

Lovely woman who has fitted into the royal family easily and along with William has the right balance of being traditional combined with a young and modern attitude.

And that is a huge compliment coming from a staunch Republican!

GiddyUpCowboy · 19/04/2014 13:33

I agree with you she does seem relaxed, genuine and caring making small talk with strangers.

SquidgyMummy · 19/04/2014 13:52

She is still finding her feet a little bit style wise. I like her more off duty wear, skinny jeans etc.

I think her clothes although colourful, are a bit plain, I would like to see more embroidery, texture, accessories

Favourites of the trip have been the

broderie anglaise dress

teal dress and cocktail hat

she does not suit black

SquidgyMummy · 19/04/2014 14:07

This is the sort of stuff I like to see her in

George's Christening

jubilee

Ark charity gala

meeting the obamas

teal evening dress

very Carolyn Bessette Kennedy

Whist googling her I have waaay too much time on my hands I realised she has not been to that many evening events - there are only about 6 or 7 different evening gowns she has been seen in.

William really needs to take her out more. And the queen needs to open up the jewellry box vault

HerRoyalNotness · 19/04/2014 14:23

That teal evening dress was a stunner! Best look she's had I think, she really glowed and looked very confident in it.

StatisticallyChallenged · 19/04/2014 14:35

I agree, that teal dress was stunning.

member · 19/04/2014 14:39

Despite having the heavy eyeliner & long hair, for some reason her sister tends to look a lot better. I know she doesn't have the same weight of expectation on her, but still.

Kate's footwear is really aging; not so bad having courts with fitted sheath type dress below the knee but high heel height with floaty/flared type dresses are bleugh. The few times she is captured wearing flats with skinnies, they are boat shoes.

Having Kate & fashion in the same sentence is a bit of an oxymoron really but practically every outfit she wears could look so much better with better shoes!

Nancy66 · 19/04/2014 14:43

the fact she looks so good with hair up is a good indicator that she's suit a shorter style. I doubt she'd go mega short but something around shoulder length would be great.

Dress today is hideous. I would consider that too old for me and I'm about 15 years older than Kate

polyhymnia · 19/04/2014 15:05

Absolutely agree on the hair - it's just so dull as it is. Ditto shoes.

The things squidgy posted certainly much better than recent crop.

I think she is actually quite dull and conventional though and that's probably on balance an asset in her 'job'.

JapaneseMargaret · 19/04/2014 15:44

Disagree that her sister looks better, and that just goes to show that beauty in the eye of the beholder.

To me, disregarding her sense of style and her bloody eyeliner, Kate is a classic beauty, whereas her sister is a complete 'also ran'.

BeyondTheSea · 19/04/2014 15:56

Yes - I can't see the appeal with the sister. She looks much older than she is.
I love the teal dress as well.

Nancy66 · 19/04/2014 16:11

both middletons are good looking - Kate much prettier though and has a better figure. Pippa has very short legs and quite a 'hard' face

susannahmoodie · 19/04/2014 16:12

Yes some lovely outfits amongst those links esp blush lace jubilee and PG's christening and real gown.

Apart from christening (obv) weren't all pre pg? Has she become, dare I say it, mumsy??

I mean, so have I tbh after 2dcs and still bf and I don't think it's uncommon to feel in a bit if a style wilderness after pregnancy but you think she if all people could avoid it with the resources she has at her disposal!

And if fashion isn't her thing, then what is exactly??

OP posts:
GiddyUpCowboy · 19/04/2014 16:24

Kate's evening teal evening dress and hair is the best I have seen her. I also liked her in this and this

I agree Pippa has a much harder look, I prefer Kate's looks.

squoosh · 19/04/2014 16:25

I don't think Kate and Pippa look at all alike, not that I'm implying anything!

squoosh · 19/04/2014 16:28

I really like this Mouret dress that SquidgyMummy already linked too.
