Hi all omg am soooo full but it was worth it. Lunch was incredible, but just so rich. The weather held out and we had a lovely walk around Marlow afterwards so it's been a really special day.

Ooh Marsha that's good to hear re Phoebes, I do love them, the only problem is I keep spilling stuff on them and having to wash them every 2 wears or so! Latest was getting a pint chucked over me at an Indian restaurant on Wednesday, lovely.

QueenC I'm afraid I've no experience of what you describe but it sounds as though your volunteering being put off has made you feel especially disappointed. Do you know when you'll be able to start? It sounds as though that will make a difference. I do definitely go through stages where I find I have been thinking about clothes too much - sometimes I think I use it to alleviate boredom too and have to find something else to focus on for a bit.

Sleepwhenidie · 27/04/2014 18:54

Hey Queen I know how you feel. I was getting a bit like that before I started my course, the over focus on clothes was starting to feel a little umm, pointless (fun as it is Smile). What did you do pre DC? If that's not an option is there anything else you feel drawn towards or passionate about?

BrandyAlexander · 27/04/2014 19:06

Hi QueenC, you know I am a wohm but just wanted to echo what Sleep asked. Is there something else you could do either a course or other type of volunteering to complement the one you're doing?

Drywhiteplease · 27/04/2014 19:08

QueenC I know exactly how you feel. Things change when the dcs get older and I can tell you that they grow up too fast.
I remember feeling guilty thinking it was boring still hate house work and ironing But I look back on the time I spent with the. Dcs and don't regret it one bit, and even now work part time so I can be around to see them. I never imagined I'd be doing the job I do now, it's so far removed from what I did before children. The great privilege of being able to afford to give up your job and stay at home is that when opportunities present them in the future you really have nothing to loose, which is how I ended up with my job, I thought what the hell, I'll give this a go.
It's hard going being a SAHM but I'm sure you'll not regret your decision, your kids sound lovely.
I also suspect that you just love clothes and shopping, sure you were the same before the dcs....you wouldn't be on here if you weren't a bit obsessed Grin
P.s when I moan about housework DH just says "get a cleaner".....that's not the point, I just want a moan NOT a solution!!!!!!

Oh, by the way, I passed my final exam, I am now a certified eating psychology coach Smile, now all I need is some clients!

BrandyAlexander · 27/04/2014 19:16

Oh my goodness Sleep!!!ThanksThanksThanksThanks Many congratulations!

shopafrolic · 27/04/2014 19:26

Huge congratulations Sleep that is fabulous news. Xxxxxx I know kisses aren't very MN but stuff it xxxxxx

LinusDKD · 27/04/2014 19:27

Congratulations sleep! You must be so proud! Wine

queenc I understand how you feel even though my DC are still little. Me being a SAHM is the best thing for our family at the moment but I do look forward to them being older so I can start doing something outside of the home. I have no clue what exactly but I still have a few years to think about what I would like to do.

one I hope you had a great time today with your DS and his friends.

shop how are you feeling today?

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 27/04/2014 19:27

Congrats Sleep! :)

Drywhiteplease · 27/04/2014 19:31

Sleep brilliant, well done, sod kissing not being MN XXXXXXXXXX and an extra MWAAA..........think you should go round schools talking to teenagers about body image.

Sleep congratulations! That's great news!

QueenC it's tricky in the early years, I finally feel some freedom and ability to do my own work and I enjoy it. There were times I thought I'm going back to work (employment) but tbh I didn't want that either. So this is good for me. Don't worry about the clothes thing, it's fun and a distraction so neither here nor there.

BUT I think it's a good idea to do the volunteer thing, that could be really good for you. Start to carve out time and space for things that you are interested in. Do you have a new start date?

MarshaBrady · 27/04/2014 19:44

Blair how annoying! I'm constantly washing jeans, they just seem less nice when they are not clean. A bit baggier.

OneLittleLady · 27/04/2014 19:46

Congratulations sleep Thanks Wine Smile

Ds had a brilliant party, was so nice to see him laughing and smiling with his friends Smile

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 27/04/2014 19:54

That's definitely true Marsha, hope I didn't sound like a dirty slattern. Grin Washing every 2 wears is excessive for me though, esp as I'm usually just putting them on for an evening at a time.

Aw One glad your DS had a nice time, I bet the cake went down well!

MarshaBrady · 27/04/2014 19:58

lol Blair no not at all Grin. It's my dc, they make me grubbier I'm sure! Lugging bikes, that kind of thing.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 27/04/2014 20:22

At least you have an excuse - I just seem to drop food all over myself - but only when I'm wearing the Phoebes Hmm Grin

maradesbois · 27/04/2014 20:38

queenc know what you mean, being at home is not what you build it up to be when working ft pre-dc. I felt torn as wasn't happy in my previous job and didn't want to return to it but wasn't happy at home ft either. Am currently in middle of a course that hope will lead to career change. It works for us by my using nursery pt to be able to do something for myself. It's a lot of work but I enjoy it and can mostly fit it in when ds at nursery. Don't get me wrong, i love all the mummy stuff too and do appreciate am lucky to have the choice regarding work. Sounds like the volunteering would fill the same gap for you whilst still allowing you to be at home with dc.

Also echo marsha that no need to feel guilty about the fashion stuff, think of it as a hobby!

QueenCadbury · 27/04/2014 20:39

Well done sleep xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Glad you had a good day one

Thanks for all the hugs and understanding. I am a nurse (although registration is about to lapse in July) but because I was senior (nurse specialist in London and then a senior nurse managing a team here) it takes a lot of focus and commitment. There's not enough time at work when seeing patients to do all the service development/managerial stuff and so I ended up doing a lot of unpaid work at home. Not so much a problem with no dc but impossible with 3. Because I've taken time out (3 years since going on mat leave with dc3) I can't go back to a senior post and quite frankly I do not want to go back to the bottom and do shifts/nights/weekends, not to mention that a junior nurse salary wouldn't cover childcare costs. So I'm considering all other options for next September (2015) when dd starts school. dry I'm considering what you do but not sure I could work with kids all day Grin. I also quite like the idea of doing something completely different like a house of colour consultant. Anyway, thanks for listening

maradesbois · 27/04/2014 20:43

Also sleep well done! Sounds like a fascinating subject.

shopafrolic · 27/04/2014 20:57

No better I'm afraid Linus - really struggling
Any tips for getting over upset stomachs much appreciated. :(

OneLittleLady · 27/04/2014 21:30

Oh you poor thing shop I can't believe you still feel so rotten Thanks

Dp's mum lent me a bag for my uni interview and today said I could keep it! It is a Radley bag but the one very tiny dog on it is detachable and it is totally plain otherwise. I do love it, it has so many pockets that are just so handy and the shoulder handles are exactly the right size for my shoulder so the bag doesn't fall off all the time. It was very nice of her to let me keep it though Smile

Topazandpearl · 27/04/2014 21:33

Congratulations Sleep, you must be very proud of yourself!

QueenC I was in your position 14 years ago. I started volunteering in my local FE College in their Basic Skills dept. This led to a part-time teaching job (adults not kids) which fitted into school hours. As my DC got older, I did the Pgce so I could teach my subject. I started teaching part time and gradually increased my hours. As a nurse, I would think you would be in demand teaching (or as a TA if you don't want that commitment) in a Health and Social Care dept of a FE or sixth form college. It's just a thought. In retrospect, I would never have predicted that my volunteering would lead to a second career, so you never know what yours could lead to. As DC get older I think that it is good to have something that is yours, separate from them.

Poor shop, I hope you feel better soon.

LinusDKD · 27/04/2014 21:40

shop (((hugs)))

libertychick · 27/04/2014 21:42

Sorry to hear you are still ill Shop.

Sleep well done! That's fantastic news.

QueenC I'm not a SAHM but still struggle with the 'is this it?' feeling. I feel like I am over focusing on clothes etc too. Hugs from me and if you find the answers let me know Smile

QueenCadbury · 27/04/2014 21:49

shop are you on probiotics? They can sometimes help. I assume you've stopped puking etc?
