Make up on the train

Is it acceptable to do your make up on the train .. Powder blush mascara and lip balm. Nothing gross like eyebrow plucking
I do get some funny looks. Isn't it normal/acceptable?
What's a girl to do?

No not just powder it's the parade of product, the odour,it looks gross, the gurning when applying

NuggetofPurestGreen · 07/03/2014 22:03

I've read the thread Scottish. The spillage and seepage 'risk' is low unless it's powder flying round and is a separate thing from it being minging. Who cares if other people are gurning that's not minging! I don't know what's wrong with 'the look of it' and I don't get any odour from makeup unless it's nail varnish or something.

As for the ones that say we're insulting fellow commuters by not caring that they see our faces without makeup... Hmm

NuggetofPurestGreen · 07/03/2014 22:05

Lots of cross posts. I don't think it looks minging. Someone picking their nose that looks minging. Someone rubbing their face not so much.

scottishmummy · 07/03/2014 22:06

A gurning make up face is minging, that's the point, the tugged at eyes, sucked in cheek, rubbing it's all gross
Get out of bed earlier don't be such lazy minger

itsbetterthanabox · 07/03/2014 22:06

Those who are bothered by it what do you think of women who don't wear make at all?! Are they just always insulting to you ?

scottishmummy · 07/03/2014 22:08

Those with no make up,aren't being intrusive, minging

Philoslothy · 07/03/2014 22:08

I sometimes do my makeup on the train, I am a lazy minger though.

Snowdown · 07/03/2014 22:08

Scottishmummy you are coming across as unhinged - this is a non issue.

MooMaid · 07/03/2014 22:08

I wouldn't say it was a stupid analogy as the mens dept is actually right next to the makeup counter in our local Debs. I doubt they 'chose' to be near the make-up counters or chose to be shopping full stop I don't see the difference. It isn't more or less hygienic just because it's in a dept store.

I agree with you if powder is flying around as I wouldn't want that in my face but otherwise, really, who cares. I'd be more offended if someone sneezed over me and lets face it, thats more likely than make-up flying around the carriage

Clarabumps · 07/03/2014 22:11

I used to do it on the train. Why waste an hours commute? I'd often get people sitting with open mouths right enough. I was wondering if they wanted tips.
People eating crisps and flaking crisp crumbs all over themselves annoys me.
Make up, not so much.

scottishmummy · 07/03/2014 22:12

It's discussion of day,a mn perennial, mnhq know this is a winner
All the slapperatti will vigorously defend their right to apply slap in public
Unhinged is the vigorous rebukes from slapperatti

cerealqueen · 07/03/2014 22:12

I was fascinated to watch a woman paint her nails on the bus last week, at 12.30 am! I wondered where she was going where painted nails were essential at that time and how on earth they would not smudge before she got to her 'rendevous'!

Clarabumps · 07/03/2014 22:13

What snowdown said

Flibbertyjibbet · 07/03/2014 22:13

Yes I've seen the massive Velcro rollers on heads in Liverpool on a weekend afternoon. The funny thing is the wearers always seem to have spent HOURS on their face as they are inches deep in slap with eyelashes that would need hoists for the person to open their eyes. Its like they are making some statement that they are up for some huge and important night out.

Sadly for them, anyone over about 50 will just be reminded of Hilda Ogden types with their rollers in on a Friday or Saturday.

scottishmummy · 07/03/2014 22:14

How clever of you, whateva so and so said

MadBusLady · 07/03/2014 22:15

This is one of those only on MN subjects, for some reason it makes some people here go batshit insane. Last time I was on a thread like this someone actually compared it to changing a tampon on the train Shock

I do all make-up except foundation on the train, nobody seems to notice much less give a damn.

Clarabumps · 07/03/2014 22:16

whatever. EVER. not eva. We are not writing on a bus stop.

CointreauVersial · 07/03/2014 22:16

Another one who couldn't give a toss what other people do on the train.

I have applied lippy and mascara on the train, but not a lot else, but then I don't wear a huge amount of makeup. I also did a quick manicure and applied nail varnish once (but we are not talking crushed rush-hour commuter train). I don't think anyone even noticed.

squoosh · 07/03/2014 22:17

I love putting my makeup on at home in the morning, it's my calm, thoughtful time. So me applying makeup on public transport is never going to happen. But it must be my inner peeping tom that loves spying on women who do. Sometimes I think 'oh good lipstick choice' or 'your foundation's a bit orange'.

scottishmummy · 07/03/2014 22:17

Well yes,but let's face it,mn isn't real it is words on screen.were gripes,joy,discussion live

MadBusLady · 07/03/2014 22:17

We are not writing on a bus stop.

I dunno, I think scottishmummy might be actually.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 07/03/2014 22:17

Yeah snowdown you're right. I Need to disengage now, scottish you're just repeating the same things over and over and not actually explaining yourself. I don't pull at my eyes or gurn when putting on makeup btw.

scottishmummy · 07/03/2014 22:18

how funny Clara nonpludpssed about the slapperatti but desperate to correct whateva

NuggetofPurestGreen · 07/03/2014 22:19

Someone said that on this one too Madbump. Yes getting your fanny out on the train is EXACTLY like rubbing a bit of cream on your face.

scottishmummy · 07/03/2014 22:20

I do hope the slapperatti feel uncomfortable with other commuters think minging
Or maybe think whateva...
