I couldn't see that anyone else had started a new thread, after Stropps carelessly finished the old one without starting a new one, so here you are. Xmas GrinXmas GrinXmas Grin

Oh gawdGrin! Actually it was going really well: three times a week and nice pay-off in the well-fitting jeans department - but then on Christmas Eve (and yes, I have become the sort of person who runs on Christmas Eve) I faltered to a halt for the first time. Think I have had a bit of a bug. Am going to try again tomorrow - I do seem to have shaken it off and given it to DP.

QueenQueenie · 28/12/2013 18:45

Oh MI, that must have been rather dispiriting but in the great scheme of things a teensy blip. Sounds like you've been really going for it! When I started in September I honestly thought I was going to die after running for 60 seconds... when I went running yesterday I ran for 25 minutes and though I can't say I enjoyed it I didn't think I was going to keel over or have a heart attack. I never thought I'd be able to do that. CV was very encouraging of my feeble efforts at the last meet up. Thanks CV!

motherinferior · 28/12/2013 19:21

I'm stopping at about 25 mins as it's a nice little circuit round the local park. I play rousing country music instead of bloody Laura.

Stropps, I had a phase of hot flushes and was grimly resigned to their escalation...but then they stopped!

CointreauVersial · 29/12/2013 01:29

Aww shucks, QQ, it was the least I could do. Smile

Well, we made it here, no problems on the boat in the end. We are just back from a night out with some old friends of DH, including his childhood sweetheart, who broke his heart when he was 18. We were in one of those bars full of hen parties and lecherous single men that makes one feel sooo old. I have had far too much gin.

motherinferior · 29/12/2013 10:12

I am going to attempt a booze free day....managed a sedately curtailed run (how have I managed to put on half a stone in a week, eh?) and am gearing up for Aldi.

Blackduck · 29/12/2013 13:02

We are doing our Mexican meal so have just done refried beans and the pork is slow cooking in the oven. People arriving around 4.30 - hope they are hungry......

Just at the moment, Rudy, I'd say anywhere...alone.

Am now in major dog-house for chucking out the cake DP's aunt foisted on me - apparently he'd asked her for it. Why didn't she tell me, then? He threw an 'is it so awful to want a bit of cake made by my aunt' strop. Gah.

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/12/2013 20:50

Wait - you threw out cake, MI? Shock

OP posts:
motherinferior · 29/12/2013 20:51

I threw out sugar-free Christmas cake. Not Real Cake.

Iceland. Apart from the shower room guards.

Christmas doesn't half go on doesn't it?

motherinferior · 29/12/2013 20:55

Well, it was loitering in a bag, dammit, he hadn't exactly dug it out and put it anywhere! And the house is packed with actually nice stuff to eat. Not Date Cake.

Lalsy, it really does, doesn't it.

motherinferior · 29/12/2013 20:58

If I offer to make a (much nicer) cake I will presumably be missing the point so I won't.

My stomach is like a balloon. I have had to unzip my jeans.

Sugar free Christmas cake? What is this abomination? You will be telling us it has no booze in it next.

Have discovered that the DDs have different half terms in February... Think they might like to go and stay separately with their grandparents for some of it?

OP posts:
lalsy · 29/12/2013 23:04

Yeah, Iceland isn't great for sun. Its charms lie elsewhere.

It was all really fun - and I can't believe I've got another whole week of dh being 'off work' while still working every day and having to be available by phone, and no-one knowing what day it is or what is happening.

motherinferior · 30/12/2013 09:21

I'd put money on no booze in it. She said proudly she'd only sweetened it with dates. I rest my case.

I may make a lemon drizzle today out of sheer cussedness.

motherinferior · 30/12/2013 09:26

And as I was squatting to check out our flour/sugar stocks my new fleece tights split at the crotch.....Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/12/2013 09:55

I have just made some pastry for mince pies. By hand, as my food processor died before we left Paris and hasn't yet been replaced. Goodness only knows what it will be like. I am having a lazy day today. Have dinner guests tomorrow night and am doing Hungarian food - a meat paprika laden beef stew, lecso, which is peppers and eggs with smoked sausage, red cabbage, and possibly noodles of some description, which will be bought from Tesco, not made by hand in my Hungarian noodle maker. Not sure what to do for pudding. Am thinking possibly Hungarian cheesecake, but that might be a bit heavy after a heavyish dinner. Maybe a chocolate mint mousse?

I too am planning on doing eff all today. As at I laws yesterday, where DS was all feverish and floppy, and at my parents for two days before that, so now just want to sort the house out, watch telly and graze on leftovers. Which include the very cake-like panettone, with plenty of sugar.

dP has returned to bed with severe hangover, DS is watching endless reruns of cbeebies pantos on the computer, and I've only just got up due to over-indulging in Night Nurse last night. Powerful stuff.

Still got this hideous cold, though its powers seem to be on the wane. I can almost breathe through one nostril.

You'll all no doubt be thrilled to know I got DS's stabilisers on to his bike, with the help of day's socket set, but not surprised that he rode his bike for about one minute before getting bored.

addle · 30/12/2013 10:15

Am having coffee and chocolate cake for breakfast and watching White Christmas as result of massive row last night with DD who went to leave dinner arranged and catered entirely for her at her specific request (her friends and their extremely nice mothers) to socialise with other friends. Horribly horribly rude.

And this was after six solid days of relatives staying and me/DH sleeping in kitchen on sofabed so could never go to bed until last person disappeared and had to get up so that (lovely) ILs could have their morning cup of tea.

Sod the diet. Roll on end of festive season.

Blackduck · 30/12/2013 10:24

God I loooovvve my dishwasher :-). One load last night, another on now - job done!
Party was fab - margaritas all round to start - pork was a hit - should have done more of it, and everyone had a good time ;-). I am now back in bed with a cup of tea - I will finish off tidying up later.

All the lights in ds's room have gone - looks like a dodgy circuit.
Back to work Thursday here.
