I couldn't see that anyone else had started a new thread, after Stropps carelessly finished the old one without starting a new one, so here you are. Xmas GrinXmas GrinXmas Grin

Heh, the smartphone was clearly offended by the word "shite".

motherinferior · 27/12/2013 18:56

Shingles? Truly shite.

I have endured DP's aunt, uncle, brother and brother's girlfriend. Now at my parents. Who are actually an improvement on this afternoon, which has to say something.

bigTillyMintspie · 27/12/2013 19:23

OMG Cremo! 2014 has got to be betterSmile

I have never been to Kircaldy, but I think I must have been to Holyhead as we drove to Dublin/Galway with my BF from school and my friend from uni for their honeymoon (they had been together for 10 years already!), but so much alcohol was consumed that the whole thing is a blur!

MI WineWineWine

Just watched Letters to Juliet and My Sisters Keeper back to back with DD

DS has now claimed the flicker and put on Lizard Lick - his favourite ATMShock

Blackduck · 27/12/2013 20:24

Finally home (ahh the thought of my own bed tonight is bliss) and wearing new pjs and furry bootie slippers. Have done three Xmas in two days and am knackered...

Oh Cremo Wink re shingles... But good to hear things seem to be improving on other fronts. Here all quiet - first washing load done, white wine....

Auriga · 27/12/2013 23:55

BD home at last!
Crem, shingles, fuck. 2014 has got to be your year.
BTM, yes I think it's me. Is it a thistle?

Strops, thank you. DSis suddenly requested medical help this evening, has symptoms which could well be recurrence of cancer. So maybe that helps to explain why she has been (a bit) insensitive recently. Doc was nice to her and gave lots of symptomatic treatment. She has fast-track appt in a week. And I am officially not allowed to be angry with her any more Hmm

We watched The Awakening. Think DD will turn up wanting to sleep in our bed later Grin

hattymattie · 28/12/2013 09:49

Cream [ that is awful. A lot of Crepeys are having a tough time at the moment. Augira I hate it when people make plans with my DC's and bypass me, it is the minimum of good manners to check with the parents.

Very quiet and uneventful here - have fed next door's rabbit and DH is putting planks down in the loft. He left these outside in the rain and they creak whilst drying out. It sounds like we've got a ghost up there.

Rudy, any news on your friend?

Auriga · 28/12/2013 11:10

Thanks Rudy

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/12/2013 11:49

Crem - sorry about your shingles. Here's to a better 2014 for you.

My mother has been taken off to my cousin for six days. My cousin says she doesn't mind, because my mother can sit and chat with my uncle, and it gives my cousin a bit of a break. We are off to the outlaws shortly.

motherinferior · 28/12/2013 13:39

We are heading home. Forced everyone out for brisk walk through Norwich and round the Cathedral and surrounding close. V nice caff.

My mum's corker today: "oh, but so often in cafes you get a huge baked potato that you can't possibly finish"....

bigTillyMintspie · 28/12/2013 14:11

Oh FFS, DS has virtually no clothes that fit him. Again. Even DH's stuff is looking too small (never mind that it's "old skool) - emergency shopping tomorrow when we reach Sheff I think.

Auriga, that's a resultSmile And MI, even a grown man can't eat a whole baked potatoWink

hattymattie · 28/12/2013 15:00

Grin I can relate to the huge baked potato comment.

BTM I went out for DS yesterday but there seems to be a leap in sizes between ages 10 and 12 with no age 11 (at least not in France) so everything's slightly big. He'll have to roll his sleeves up.

beachyhead · 28/12/2013 15:27

I'm feeling like a huge baked potato, looks wiseGrin yesterday's guests have just left and we have about 18 hours respite, then off to outlaws for the night. I'm quite tired and grumpy already and it might just tip me over the edge. I must behave!

I've been hailed on very badly twice in three days and everything has been dryed and wetted many, many times.

Crem, I can't believe you have shingles now. Roll on 2014!

My NY resolution is to sort out the towel situation in our house. They are all too interchangeable and mostly end up in dd1's room. I need an 'enforceable towel system for a modern family'.

motherinferior · 28/12/2013 15:37

I am clearly the huge spud-guzzler my mum thinksGrin I like baked potatoes. And usually finish them, dammit.

Stropperella · 28/12/2013 15:59

I love baked potatoes, usually find them too small and have to have 1.5 Grin . Pesto baked potatoes are a big family fave here: scoop out the inside of the baked potatoes, mash with a beaten egg, butter and a large amount of pesto, return mixture to skins, cover with grated parmesan and return to the oven until browned. Yum.

motherinferior · 28/12/2013 16:03

Ooh yes. Coriander pesto vg for this purpose too. Also tinned tuna/salmon with mayo and sweetcorn, as a mindlessly easy and delicious option.

Stropperella · 28/12/2013 16:10

Coriander pesto, you say? Mmm sounds good.

motherinferior · 28/12/2013 16:27

We are talking potatoes as the Main Event, innit, possibly accessorised with salad.

Needless to say my mum plies people with vast quantities of delicious food...

Stropperella · 28/12/2013 16:51

Oh yes, there has to be a large green salad involved. If we hadn't had baked potatoes last night, I would be doing some now.

I think I may have had my first full-on perimeni hot flush last night. I woke up in the early hours, burning hot, soaking wet and feeling horribly nauseous. Also have had some spotting yesterday and today. I suppose this is it.. The nausea was somewhat unexpected. Bleargh.

hattymattie · 28/12/2013 16:57

Oh Stropps I'm dreading that.

Pesto baked potato sounds yummy - but can't get good old King Edwards here so baked spuds are never quite the same.

motherinferior · 28/12/2013 17:20

I am home and may hit the red wine soon.

Blackduck · 28/12/2013 17:45

We are all a bit jet lagged so either not hungry, or hungry at odd hours.....
Have a Mexican themed drinks party tomorrow so have made two chilles (yes I know its not Mexican) and a chilli, chocolate, tequila cake. Will do guacamole and slow cooked pork, refried beans etc tomorrow....

Well we escaped the Christmas expense and I am not a New Year person so this is our contribution to the festivities..

motherinferior · 28/12/2013 18:22

I have diverted torrent of people whom I'd inadvertently invited for NYE, and offered our house as crash space for the kids instead, under the teetotal and anti-social eye of Mr Inferior (who prefers this to going out and watching other people get drunk, he grumpily informs me). Win-win.

Other gems from the last few days: DP's aunt producing an excellent lasagne but accompanying it with sprouts (she's got form for this); same dame pressing huge chunk of Christmas bloody cake on me, adding as if enticingly that "it's made without sugar - just dates"; and BIL's slightly odd and really oddly dressed German GF saying "oh, I'll squeeze in with the kids, after all I'm slim enough" (perhaps she ought to meet my mum...)

Have to say even a minimal amount of DP's family makes me worry I am horrible antisocial person for finding them such hard work. At least my parents clearly are insane.

QueenQueenie · 28/12/2013 18:29

You're ignoring my request to know how the running is going MI aren't you? Too busy with weird cooking and weird girlfriends....
