Hi Springs.
New thread, hopefully, with the following link to our old one....

Early Spring

The wear three bright colours thing scares me rigid too, though I fully accept that I'm a spring & look like Dracula's more anaemic sister in the plums/burgundy/icy pastels etc.
But how do you tell your level of contrast? It wasn't covered on either of my colour or style days. Looking at 12BP I'm stumped to tell if my particular version of HoC Blue Spring is 12BP's Light or Bright, how did you know?

Mumelie · 22/02/2014 17:24

Hi everyone (and especially to season).Grin

I'm bright spring too and go more for the neutral colours with a splash (won't say pop won't say pop) of a bright one. Today I've been in black jeans, black and white striped breton, tan knee boots and a red cardi. I really think Black with a contrast suits me. As I've mentioned before my consultant erred on the side of winter before deciding I was a spring so I feel I can borrow colours from that palette too (not the pastels or bugandy though).
I'm now ignoring all the bitching on 'the other' thread - rise above it - they are all just jealous they are not springsWink

Aquelven · 22/02/2014 17:33

Yes, I'm ignoring it too Smile
Didn't some of you who went with CMB say that black was in their spring palette? Think that shows that it's a valid colour for us as at least an occasional neutral. Well, that's what I'm telling myself as some of my nicest things from before are black.
Black jeans for me too today, with a grey top & red cardigan, no lipstick smacks wrists & very chipped red nail polish Confused

Gah - posted earlier but it's not showing....

Hello Season!!! Nice to hear from you Grin. Can you let me know how you got your 12 BP swatch book too? Would love one and am sure I'm bright spring. (Lots of contrast and often described as having a 'neutral' skintone by more, err, sophisticate make-up counters - Laura mercier, Bobbi Brown etc)

And yes, Aquelven, CMB says you can wear black if you are 'Clear and warm'. So clear is the primary characteristic - warm is secondary. I think Clear and Warm is sort of a bright spring and clear and cool is a bright winter. So both 'clears' get black in their palette. Clear and warm look less amazing in it but can still wear it. Does that make sense? Anyway, I have loads of black suits/dresses for work and cannot afford a brand new wardrobe (they are quite expensive clothes) so I'm clinging on to that Wink. I do need more make-up if I wear just black next to my face though.

Aquelven · 22/02/2014 19:39

Yes, that makes perfect sense Beginner, thank you Smile
Same here, too many expensive black things to chuck.

But still can't get my head round how you know if you have lots of contrast & what that implies. Can someone explain, please, how you work out if you have & what it means if you have or haven't, clothes wise?

OP posts:
SeasonofTheWitch · 22/02/2014 20:23

feels satisfyingly welcomed and swaggers back in like a rock star, albeit one stymied by the lack of an ability to wear black

Yeah, about the black thing... it's on my bright spring swatches. Christine 12BP says we can wear it though it's likely to be too much dark near the face or all over. tbh, I'm just not that bothered by it - prefer the effect of navy though that might be partly down to style type. I know gillybobs luffs wearing a bit of it for some edge.

And yo, gilly - makes a change for me to post without a summons from you Grin

Swatched... y'all might not thank me for this, it's flipping exxy, I think around £50 inc postage: truecolour.com.au/main/page_shop_shop.html

There's also one by Indigo Tones which a friend has, it's fabric instead but a similar ridiculous price.

SeasonofTheWitch · 22/02/2014 20:33

Oh and contrast, Aquelven it was easy for me because I had lots of other springers to compare myself to and mostly they had similar colouring (usually warm skin, blonde/light brown hair and bright blue eyes) and medium contrast, whereas gilly and I looked like snow flipping white-stylee winters in comparison.

Aquelven · 22/02/2014 20:41

Thank you Season
I suspect, from that, that I might be low contrast having very pale, neutral skin, very light blonde(virtually white) hair, not dyed it's my normal colour, & turquoise eyes.
So I suppose that means I don't need to wear lots of contrasting colours & can stick to my favourite neutrals with just a bit of colour to brighten it up? Have I got that right?

OP posts:
Gillybobs · 22/02/2014 20:55

Aque you sound true spring to me, light spring probably wouldn't have the strong coloured eyes you have. So yes I think low/medium contrast is fine for you.

The easiest way for me to get contrast is by wearing a dark neutral, navy/charcoal/black with cream or light grey and then a dash of bright spring colour. Often just dark trousers or denims, cream/light grey blouse and a bright necklace. it's my formula. And it feels good when you find that formula!!

Aquelven · 22/02/2014 21:04

Thank you, Gilly your interpretation sounds very wearable, just the sort of colours I feel comfortable in too, greys & navy are what I'm always drawn to & think suit me more than the really bright colours.

OP posts:
RipMacWinkle · 22/02/2014 21:10

Just wanted to jump in and say that I'm a blue spring and happily settled as a true spring. I have mousy blond hair, blue eyes, v pale skin. For a long time I thought I was light spring (12bp) but, with the help of friends, now realise I need brighter shades. I'm no bright spring though, the contrast is too much for me.

Gillybobs · 22/02/2014 21:12

Rip you totally rock those amazing warm spring colours, Kerry and coral in particular. You are the truest true spring on the block my dear x

Aquelven · 22/02/2014 21:20

Thanks Rip glad you jumped in Smile I sound similar to you contrast wise. Was this covered at all on your colour days, those of you who know what you are? Or on the style day even? I hadn't heard anything about contrast till reading this thread, my consultant never mentioned it on either day.
Another thing to ponder in the mix Confused

OP posts:
RipMacWinkle · 22/02/2014 21:32

No Aquelven it wasn't. I didn't hear or read about 12 BP till much later. But previous threads did discuss the difference between bright / blue springs and the correlation (if any) between hoc and 12bp. I find it all very interesting. Realising that I need the vibrancy of coral or kerry has been a recent eye opener for me. You should try with coral / peach or kerry / mint green. Not definitive but perhaps a starter for ten?

((hugs)) thanks gilly I can't imagine not having coral in my life now. And I used to live on black and charcoal...... Old pics have me looking like death :)

BeginnerSAHM · 22/02/2014 21:33

Interesting.... I might ask for an (impossible) forum-diagnosis now! I have v v pale skin with a slightly yellow tinge (nice Wink) (usually the lightest foundation colour unless a brand has about 20+ options), mid brown neutral hair (with warmish lighter highlights naturally in the sun) and dark blue eyes/virtually black eye-brows. Do you think bright spring is right? Wink

Gillybobs · 22/02/2014 21:37

Do you have a pic on your profile?

BeginnerSAHM · 22/02/2014 21:39

Nope.... Might be brave a put one up on Monday!! (At parents' house this weekend and can't do it from iPhone!) Thanks Gilly Wink.

MrsPeacockDidIt · 22/02/2014 21:52

Ooh now everyone has got me wondering about my colouring and contrast.

I'm naturally not drawn to high contrast and although I can see some of the brighter spring colours can look great I have to tone them down otherwise I don't feel quite right.

I am very pale and frecklely. Skin tone defiantly has a bluish tinge to it. My hair is very pale gold and my eyelashes and eyebrows are pure blond. My eyes are pale grey/blue. I'm beginning to sound like a ghost aren't I ?

The tan and yellow colours in the spring palette don't do me any favours.

I have avoided joining in the anti thread. I'm surprised at the strength of annoyance over there TBH. I don't think any of us consider this whole thing as an absolute science but it has been very useful to me especially seeing the results on my friend as we did the day together.

Fooogle · 22/02/2014 21:57

Hi again
Thanks season and hello...
I feel a bit unsure if I could be a bright spring... I guess it's possible or possible that that's where the confusion arose between CMB spring and hoc jewel spring...
I have mousey dark blonde/light brown hair, quite mid blue eyes, fair skin - lightest or second lightest usually... Think that's not loads of contrast but as I say...! I feel like I actually have no objectivity left just now!
I'm practicing wearing more winter colours... Finding it hard to put them together and look good! I used not to wear black and a colour and now I don't know how not to! Blush

SeasonofTheWitch · 22/02/2014 22:10

On the contrast thing, we ought to bear in mind that it's not always accurate to correlate colouring with season. We have a likely Bright spring friend who on paper isn't high contrast (blonde hair, light skin, blue eyes) but has some kind of voodoo contrast going on which allows her to rock black.

I've just uploaded a pic of me temporarily so you can check out my bright spring thang. It's a rather gormless expression but is a good one for accuracy of colouring and I'm also wearing an Elea Blake bright spring lippy in it which you might find geekily interesting Grin

Aquelven · 22/02/2014 22:15

Hi Fooogle I thought you'd been re diagnosed as a winter & hopped it over to the winter thread? Are you still not sure then?

MrsP you're not a million miles from me in colouring, I freckle too & have ghost like tendencies. Other than eye tone, yours sound lighter, we are virtually the same. Were you Blue Spring too? Sorry, I've forgotten if you said before.
The tans & yellows do me no favours either & all ** are blues, purples, turquoises, greens, grey + one red. Are yours the same?

Rip thank you for that, it's a good start guide though coral wasn't supposed to be that good for me.
It would be so much easier to sort out if there was a direct correlation between the systems but I suppose that's the point, they all want us to do theirs.

OP posts:
SeasonofTheWitch · 22/02/2014 22:15

bugger it, it won't upload. sorry!

Aquelven · 22/02/2014 22:16

How do we get to your picture, Season? I haven't fathomed that out yet?

OP posts:
Aquelven · 22/02/2014 22:17

Cross post, sorry!

I keep getting an error message when I try to load one.

I guess there's no reason for me to be anon on here so I'll post a link to my blog, there's a pic of me on there though it's not massively clear, you will at least see my colouring/contrast: threeprinciplesblog.com
