Hi Springs.
New thread, hopefully, with the following link to our old one....

Early Spring

OP posts:
Aquelven · 20/02/2014 22:13

So did I! You're having a good influence on me, Joycey Grin even a scarf!
How are you feeling today?

OP posts:
BeginnerSAHM · 21/02/2014 16:37

Um, I'm feeling a bit anti-Spring.... Might join Frugal's thread Blush. I do think certain colours suit me better than others BUT I just can't stand the cbeebies look (and can't seem to escape the feeling i look like one when i wear more than one bright colour) and am fed up with coral.

BirdyBedtime · 21/02/2014 16:41

Bumping as we're on page 3 again. I've been busy reading for the past few weeks but not much to post as I've been trying not to shop. Only purchase was a red cowl neck jumper in the gap sale.

BirdyBedtime · 21/02/2014 16:58

I agree Beginner it is really hard to avoid that look. I have grown to love coral though and was tempted by another Gap jumper, but trying to not spend too much on clothes at the mo.

I did have a quick glance at the other thread - some interesting views!

BeginnerSAHM · 21/02/2014 17:27

Indeed Birdy! I don't have such a strong opinion as some but am a little disillusioned! I'm of the view that there is a strong element of subjectivity (particularly as was definitely diagnosed a winter by HOC a few years ago, despite my telling the consultant I was diagnose a CMB Spring, AND that consultant has been strongly recommended by people on the S&B boards). I also like the sound of the sciart system much better I think. Having said that, I still know I look sh*t in sludgy colours!

Mumelie · 21/02/2014 19:18

Hi everyone. Been ready the anti thread too - dont have a strong opinion either way - each to their own.
I think being a bright Spring is very very difficult in the depths of winter - it all looks wrong, garish, too much. In a few months time we'll all be loving it again. I'm so bored with drab grey, black, navy etc now and need a bit of sunshine and brightness.
Beginner just wear what you feel good in. I bend the rules a lot - I like to wear black for example and think it suits me. I'm not that keen on a few of my ** colours to be honest either - I'm not going to force myself to wear them. I too know sludgy colours look awful on me. Just treat it as a guide not hard and fast rules.

EustaciaVye · 21/02/2014 19:54

aquelven - looks like we just xposted on the anti thread.

hope everyone is ok. half term is keeping me busy. no clothes shopping for me for a while as I want some red and green in my wardrobe and there doesnt seem to be much about.

EustaciaVye · 21/02/2014 19:55

fwiw I am wearing blue jeans, white tshirt and powder blue hoody Smile

Aquelven · 21/02/2014 20:03

Yes, I've been over there reading & posted once. I really don't think we need to do the CeeBeebies look, to me it's more knowing which neutrals flatter & which don't, then adding a little colour if you want to. I'd been sucked into burgundy the winter when it was all the rage in the shops, it made me look ill though I couldn't really understand why.
I don't completely agree with not wearing black, I still do but can now see that it needs makeup to pull it off.
I think the banging on, on the anti thread, about bright lipstick is just ridiculous. It isn't the brightness but the tone, to my mind, that needs to be right, warm pinks for us instead of mauve toned ones, peaches instead of browns. I think that really does make a difference.
I just don't get the anger over there, or why FrugalFashionista felt she needed to come & educate us on this thread.

OP posts:
Gillybobs · 21/02/2014 20:09

I feel quite baffled that anyone would deliberately try to recruit followers to slag off something that loads of us have found useful.

The slagging off bright lipstick just shows what a lack of understanding there is. Neither summers nor autumns are recommended bright lipstick, right??

As I said over there, there are loads of things discussed on MN I'd never even contemplate but I wouldn't in a million years feel the need to start a thread specifically to slag it off.

Sigh

Aquelven · 21/02/2014 20:20

It's getting really stupid. Nasty things being said & then trying to say it was just a joke & we're thick if we don't understand that.
I feel really sorry for Hopefully & Travel, they're wise enough to keep their heads down.
I agree totally with the post you wrote, Gilly.

OP posts:
YouHaveBeenOutbid · 21/02/2014 20:56

Just worked my way through the anti thread. Good God! There's more than a few bitter folks out there isn't there? I think perhaps certain people just want to be the popular girl in school... There's definitely a pattern ... and with that I'd better shut up!

Like most of you, I'm just taking what I want to from the whole colour analysis thing. I'm not currently sitting here in head to toe banana and won't ever be. Don't think I'd ever tire of coral though. I've always loved coral.

BirdyBedtime · 21/02/2014 20:56

I agree with Beginner. Being a spring is hard in winter when 95% of people seem to be wearing black, black and burgandy. My winter clothes definitely veer towards the more neutral shades of our palette.

I'm not going to look at the other thread again - IMO having my colours done has been a positive experience for me so I don't really want to see people slagging that off.

BeginnerSAHM · 21/02/2014 21:57

Ah, you see, think you 'springs' are lovely! Mumelie - you are totally right. I see it as a guide, that I found useful when I feel indecisive and confused about what suits me and agree that the colours they suggested do make me look healthy. That said, I am can't wear 3 'spring' colours (unless 2 are neutral) without feeling very very like a clown. So, that's just me. I am surprised how opinionated that particular thread seems to have become too - but it's very easy to post strong opinions when it's anonymous (and after a couple of glasses of wine...). Don't get too stressed about it. (I got chucked off the gina ford website for, respectfully, saying that EVEN if you follow a routine to the letter, some babies just don't sleep well... And therefore mums should stop beating themselves up for not doing it 'right'. Some people got very upset that i questioned the black and white certainty of their leader. Much much easier to be abusive online! But I digress.)

Gillybobs · 21/02/2014 22:06

Spot on beginner! anonymity brings out the worst in people. There are some posters on that thread I previously really admired that I've really changed my opinion on tonight.
I accept completely that colour analysis isn't for everyone. I even accept that some folk think it's nonsense. I'm struggling to accept grown women starting a thread specifically with the aim of mocking it. If we all start doing that then the S and B board would be choc full of sarcastic pointless threads.

I've got so much respect for Hopefully and Travel and all the free advice they give on the colours threads. I'm insulted on their behalf

butterfliesandflowers · 22/02/2014 02:30

Just catching up! Not been on MN for a while!
Boden sale items arrived and think I did quite well! Lovely turquoise dress and red dress, also got a teal which is great shape and swishy skirt although darker than I normally wear!

Hope all is good with you xx

Fooogle · 22/02/2014 02:58

Hello springs!
Just popping in... From what it sounds like i d better avoid looking at the anti board. Feeling a bit responsible after reporting my spring to winter hoo haa. Really valued hopefully and travellings opinions. Anyway, won't dwell on it. It seems rude to just hack into it all, just don't join in if you don't like the whole premise eh?!
Still a bit unsure of my new guise. I rather lust after the spring colours so may dabble Grin though wearing black is fun on occasion!
Hope you don't mind me popping in.
Hope everyone is well

Hopefully · 22/02/2014 10:11

Just wanted to pop on and say thank you for being lovely Smile.

Also on the off chance there are any blue spring dramatics on here, I am loving this dress at the moment. Bit of a Spring/Summer crossover, but would work on a not-too-warm person I think. Keep trying to persuade myself it's teal, but it really isn't!

Gillybobs · 22/02/2014 10:37

That dress is divine!

Aquelven · 22/02/2014 12:20

That dress is lovely....pity I'm not a dramatic < sob>
Hopefully, lovely to see you on here Smile we appreciate your help when you're not even Spring.

Fooogle how are you getting on with the winter swap? Have you had to change much? I'd have thought it was the most opposite to spring so quite a bit to get your head round.

OP posts:
SeasonofTheWitch · 22/02/2014 15:03

Hey springers! I haven't posted for longtime but I was on the original spring thread a couple of years ago.

fooogle I was draped by HoC as a paintbox spring and although spring made sense in comparison to the other seasons and I could see some of the colours were fabulous on me, overall the palette didn't feel like a complete fit. A large chunk of colours seemed meh on me and I felt like I lacked contrast if I wore them in the way that HoC suggested.

After reading the 12BP Bright Spring descriptions and looking at the palettes etc, I bought a Bright Spring swatch book and followed the 12BP suggestion of incorporating contrast (light, dark, mid-range) and that's made the magic happen. I only use that swatch book now.

btw, I have dark reddy brown hair, black eyebrows and lashes, pale neutral skin and bright blue/green (ok, aquamarine if I'm being a knob) eyes - very contrasty and I look more winter than spring. Christine (12bp) having seen photos of me and my eyes said I do look like a Bright Spring.

If you're a cooler spring than it might well be the same sitch for you.

SeasonofTheWitch · 22/02/2014 15:09

Sorry I missed the actual point of that which was that going from HoC spring to sci/art Bright Spring doesn't make my original HoC diagnosis wrong, I see it as fine-tuning it.

I haven't had to throw anything out, I just wear things in a different combo and some of the newer things I've bought are colours - like charcoal and a dark aquamarine - that aren't in the HoC spring palette.

Aquelven · 22/02/2014 16:10

Hello SeasonofTheWitch lovely to meet you Smile
I wasn't on the spring thread two years ago as only got HoC'd last summer. I'm fascinated. I'm very cool for spring too, a Blue Spring diagnosis, & can recognise not getting on with some of the shades, all the yellows, tans & oranges were very low rated & do me no favours at all. I've sometimes gone on the 12BP site hoping to find guidance but it's so big I tend to get confused. Where did you buy the swatch book, was it via the site?
I too have the bright blue/green turquoise eyes & veer towards the turquoise/aquamarine & grey colours that were all ** for me, even buying much darker more autumn versions since the day, so that swatch book could be perfect.

BeginnerSAHM · 22/02/2014 16:40

Hello Season GrinGrin! Nice to hear from you. Yup - I'm interested too. An quite sure I'm a bright spring (quite neutral, a lot of contrast) so would love a 12BP swatch book....!

Gillybobs · 22/02/2014 16:46

hey Season, what's up my friend ; )

On that subject, both season and I figured out the bright spring thing around the same time and it totally transformed how I felt about being a spring. I had the horrors at the "wear three bright colours" things and thought the whole thing wasn't for me. I'm now much more comfortable in my daily uniform of navy or charcoal with a nice dash of spring bright in my top or scarf, some days just bright ballet pumps or sometimes even just my lippy. More than anything else this whole process has just helped me stop wasting money on clothes in summer or autumn colours that make me look like death. I wear the dark neautrals that suit me and add that spring brightness as and when I see fit. Which is another reason I'm fizzing about that other thread insinuating we are all cbeebies wearing morons.
