Only the best thread in S & B to talk all things Autumn.

Megan - both of those scarves look autumn on my screen although the description of one says 'wine' so it might be different to how it looks.

Meganhunt · 16/11/2013 19:23

Thanks for all suggestions. Think I need to head into town and see them in real life! Jenni dress colour should be good but looks lighter than the name suggests it should be ifswim.

SolidGold · 16/11/2013 20:06

Anybody got any ideas for inexpensive work tops, pref low scoop neck and not too short? Will be worn with black, grey or brown trousers/skirt - just can't afford much at the moment, but only have one top that I look ok in Hmm I'm deep autumn.

charitygirl · 17/11/2013 08:34

Argh - post disappeared. Ok, trying again:

Solid - get on Dorothy Perkins. They've got 30% off everything til Weds and they have long sleeve scoop necks in deep teal, cream, and forest, which are all such useful colours. Think about £7.

My TopShop delivery was successful - will link below to stop anther post vanishing. The skirt is lovely - hardly any sizes left now but a few similar new ones in. Is it truly autumn? I am not convinced as the red is blueish - and I can see it wouldn't work with quite a few autumn staples like orange. But the effect is autumnal somehow, and it looks great with dark teal, brown, green, and cream. Same for the shirt - highly dubious mix of colours but effect is warm and earthy.

Think the clincher though is that the style is me (thank you HoC style day!). I'm an Ingenue Natural (but hate any small pattern, or anything 'amusing' or abstract) so tartan is just my perfect pattern. So glad I had my style day in time for this tartan revival! Feel no shame in stocking up while its available.

Also - what luck! Found a perfectly shaped brown/tan/green boucle Zara jacket in a charity shop for £30. Finally, my long jacket search is over and I can stop dithering over £200 tweed numbers!

Stand by for lots of links....first the skirt

Tried on this dress at a Boden Shopping day - looked gorgeous but I dithered over price and the fact I already have two teal dresses. But now it's sold out in my size and I am sad. It is really lovely - if you're looking for a dress and you're interested I can PM you a 22% off code.

Finally...I like the two scarves shop posted up there. But the Zara scarf I like the most is this one. I've seem someone wearing it and it looks great, and much more expensive than it is. BUT I'm pretty sure the effect of this one overall is summer, not autumn. I can actually imagine it making me looks pretty peaky. But what do you think:

shopafrolic · 17/11/2013 09:19

I like that one too charitygirl but thought it was too pale? and it's also acrylic which wasn't for me. Great scarf though. I love all the tartan around at the moment.

evelynj · 17/11/2013 09:22

Charity-I love that scarf so much, doesn't look true autumn but some autumn colours in it. Love your shirt & like you say the red in the skirt is a bit blue but when it's your perfect style it's hard to resist as so little comes in right colours & style exactly. I'm natural romantic & yet to find an abstract floral autumn top!

The Boden dress looks a bit meh for the price but if it looks good on?...but if you already have 2 teal dresses?!

Congrats on the charity jacket, such a good feeling to find something perfect in a charity shop :))))

Cheers for all the links-think I'll be off to Zara & dp this avo. Taking on board not to feel guilty for buying while in our season

onlysettleforbutterflies · 17/11/2013 16:27

For the pregnant autumn's, I have just seen a gorgeous maternity dress in mothercare! Almost bought it myself even though I'm not pregnant. Its long sleeve jersey with wide horizontal stripes in brown, orange and teal. Think the make was blooming marvellous.

mummybare · 17/11/2013 19:50

Just signing in on the new thread. Haven't looked through it all yet, but when I do MUST remember to press 'add to wish list', rather than 'buy'! Wink

shopafrolic · 17/11/2013 21:26

Charity I saw that scarf IRL today and the red looks quite pinky so I definitely don't think it's one for us Autumns unfortunately.

GeorginaWorsley · 17/11/2013 21:32

On subject of scarves, have seen the mustard autumn eBay scarf and the brick or burgundy one in an upmarket boutique for £48 Shock

charitygirl · 17/11/2013 22:31

Yeah, it's summer isn't it? Thanks for the confirmation guys...btw, that Boden dress looks crap in the photos but it very va va vom on - though prob not one for those under 5'7" or so.

blimey georgina!

Ihatecobwebs · 18/11/2013 00:42

Hi

I've recently been diagnosed as a soft, blue autumn, and need all the support I can get. My "autumn" wardrobe is virtually non-existent. I don't have any work clothes at all in the right colours.

My Style Day is tomorrow, or rather later this morning, so I've spent some time this evening sorting out clothes to take to match the categories, and trying to think of some decent answers to "how I would like to be perceived at home".

I've always found it quite difficult to get "smarter" clothes which fit, and with the added parameters of colour and style, I'm unsure that I'm going to ever find anything which will be right.

Hopefully · 18/11/2013 09:19

Ihate the best advice I can give is to view it as a process, not a transformation. If you walk out of your style class and try to buy a whole new wardrobe of perfect clothes, you will end up disappointed, as there probably isn't a full wardrobe's worth of any given colour/style combination available at any given time. It probably took me a good 18 months/2 years to completely change my wardrobe over to autumn colours and my style. However, the further along the process you get, the better your wardrobe will be, the more confident you will feel and the more fabulous it all gets! BTW soft blue autumn is a lovely palette, one of my longest standing clients is one and always looks great. Let us know what your style is once you're diagnosed!

Have just taken delivery of some really cheap maternity wear from an ebay shop. Will link if it's half decent.

charitygirl · 18/11/2013 21:38

Whoops ordered more stuff. Decided I needed a dress for the very low key Xmas parties I have coming up, and Asos beckoned....

Hoping this is a true forest green and that I can slightly rearrange the very low neckline...
www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Midi-Dress-With-Obi-Belt/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3049884&WT.ac=rec_viewed

And then this (in teal obsv) could look amazing, or could look skimpy and cheap. The suspense!
www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Mini-Dress-With-Batwing-Sleeves/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3256515&WT.ac=rec_viewed

cobwebs - don't worry! Honestly the 'limitations' will make shopping much easier. You probably don't have to spend as much time 'researching' online as I do...but do embrace the way the Internet allows you to look at so many clothes with so little effort.

Ihatecobwebs · 18/11/2013 22:45

Been at my style class today, and, after some deliberation, I came out as a Natural Gamine, and shapewise I have a straight top-half, and full curved bottom.

Time to seriously start weeding the wardrobe, removing (or at least planning to remove, as I have to wear something for the next few months) everything which is wrong colour and shape.

I'll start looking for tops that are right colour and shape now, and try to find a part day just to browse the shops to get used to spotting the "right" things.

Hopefully · 19/11/2013 08:22

Charity I love the green one. If it is possible to make it halfway decent (my boobs are no longer appealing enough to want to show that much of them) I am so ordering it for next year.

charitygirl · 19/11/2013 13:55

Oh God me too - hopefully I can tie it higher or wear a camisole underneath. Will report back - I noted that that red version also looked like an autumn red.

sotiredfornow · 19/11/2013 14:18

I had my analysis last week and am a dark blue / vibrant autumn.

I've just ordered the following to try:

mustard Miss Self jumper

floral tea dress

River Island red top

asos forest green dress

asos oxblood skater dress

Can anyone tell me what they think of the colour of this top? Is this too dark of a purple for autumns?

Is anyone else finding it really hard to find both the correct colour and style of clothing?

Hopefully · 19/11/2013 16:25

Yay sotired hello and welcome! Your new buys look lovely.

evelynj · 19/11/2013 16:51

Welcome sotired. Think the last top is too dark purple, (though I'm only a few months old here :). I believe some people still are ok with dark purple/berry shades as they seem to go with the palette.

Charity-I totally love the green one too, please update when you get it but will have to stop clicking on your links as I bought that Zara scarf, (for more than retail process on eBay as out of stock & even if it's not autumn) and am in danger of buying more!

jennimoo · 19/11/2013 17:12

I agree that too is too 'berry' a purple. Needs to be very blue to match the HoC swatches. Like the purple roses chocolate ;)

sweetmelody · 19/11/2013 19:13

Please help me! I thought that purple top was quite a good match for the royal purple no. 32. Jennimoo - do you mean the roses caramel chocolate with the hazelnut in the middle? Smile
