Only the best thread in S & B to talk all things Autumn.

I can't find a colours advisor locally, but I think I'm something like a soft Autumn? My hair is brown with red tones, I'm pale but warm toned, and I have blue eyes with hazel flecks. Bright summery colours tend to overpower me. The only issue is that I can look washed out in some beige and army green colours, and I think they're Autumn shades?

GatoradeMeBitch · 14/03/2014 21:45

Oops, was it ok to post a question here, or is this thread for the already confirmed Autumns? Let me know, I'll get a mod to delete it!

RahRahRasputin · 14/03/2014 22:17

Perflectly okay to ask on here, there's no thread police as far as I know Grin

Your colouring sounds similar to mine although no hazel flecks in my eyes, they are completely pale blue which is why made it hard to conclusively guess my season before my analysis. Now I really like my colours and I'm loving building my new wardrobe.

I wear beige and khaki type colours, they are in the autumn palette, but different colours from the palette will suit different people, hopefully someone more experienced will be around soon or tomorrow :)

Welcome Gatorade! The HoC website should have a search to find your nearest consultant, but sounds like you're quite self aware-I wouldn't have known if I was warm or cool & had thought I'd be a spring. I have been wondering if autumn is the most common season or if it's fairly evenly balanced-there don't seem to be a lot of summers around anyway. Really recommend seeing a consultant if you can though.

Jennimoo-love that mustard top at asda. My budget won't stretch to much at the mo although I did buy a great dash purple wrap top in a charity shop yesterday. Don't think dash exists anymore but hey ho.

The current glamour magazine has a 25% voucher off h&m if it helps anyone. Mag is £2 & has a good neutral lipliner freebie. Warning if you're over 30 IMO the content isn't great but ho hum!

ToffeeWhirl · 15/03/2014 08:31

Are Autumns meant to have hazel eyes? Mine are dark blue!

Goto - that's great if have worked out that you are an Autumn. I couldn't have done that on my own. I don't look good in the paler shades of the Autumn colours, like beige, but the stronger colours suit me. Have you tried the specific greens in the palette, eg dark olive? Or forest green?

Shame you don't have an advisor locally. I really enjoyed my colour day and it was money well spent.

Jenimoo - lovely clothes Smile.

I am still deliberating over the geranium red shirt I listed up thread. Geranium red is meant to be good on me as a 'party' colour. However, I have hesitated to buy it because it's so outside my comfort zone to wear a strong red. Before my colour analysis, I wore blue every day. Now I am wearing a lot of teal (which matches the heliotrope in my swatch), forest green and chestnut, but want to try some other colours. Not sure I am brave enough for red (although, since my analysis, have discovered that I do love my red nail varnish and lipstick). I suppose it just takes time to adjust to wearing different colours.

RahRahRasputin · 15/03/2014 09:01

No I think there's a range of eye colours, it's only that doing the online questionnaires my eye colour (pale sort of sky blue) wasn't included in autumn so I wasn't able to guess which season I was before my analysis :)

I'm returning a geranium red skirt I bought as I just don't know what it would go with, and I'm not completely sure about the shape. I love the colour though. Do you gave anything that would go with the shirt? If so, I'd say go for it and then you can gradually ease yourself into wearing it but if you don't gave anything to wear it with then you probably won't wear it.

ToffeeWhirl · 15/03/2014 09:30

I would wear the red shirt with jeans, but I also have a chestnut-brown skirt that would go with it. I suppose I could order it and return it if it doesn't feel right, but it's such a palaver to do that.

Shame about your geranium skirt. I thought all our colours were meant to go with each other? Don't you have a green or brown top that will go with it? Although, if the shape feels wrong, you might as well give up on it.

evelynj · 15/03/2014 09:38

I agree if the shape is wrong ditch it. I think I'd rather wear a wrong colour than a wrong shape. I love geranium, think it's a * colour for me but find it difficult to find my style in it although I do have a basic top to slim into

As a SAHM I'm desperate for basic scoop neck tops. I would not have previously worn geranium with some of our colours but think it's fab now with browns, creams and greens (although I'd be careful with some greens as I think the combo can look a little bit Christmassy)

If the shirt is your style, order it & retune it even if it is a faff. I think photographing yourself in an item if you can, with a range of different items that you might co-ordinate it with is a good way to mull it over rather than standing & stressing in front of a mirror though-make sure you have your going out face on too :)

ToffeeWhirl · 15/03/2014 15:18

That's good advice, evelynj - thank you. I think a geranium red shirt might be a bit like the red nail varnish - sometimes I'm in the right mood for it, other times I'd rather be less conspicuous.

geranium and lizard grey or beige looks really smart

JenniMoo · 15/03/2014 20:57

Still having no luck finding a wrap type dress to wear to a wedding where I need to BF! The woman in phase eight couldn't get her head around the fact I did not want a black dress, even if she draped a brightly coloured scarf over it...

I'm tempted to get a skirt and top but have no idea where to start. Would a matching top and skirt from kettlewell (with a belt on the join...) look too weird?

lougle · 15/03/2014 21:10

What about this?

lougle · 15/03/2014 21:15

The Zoe Dress but only in size 16 which I think is possibly too big? Depends on the generosity of sizing, I guess.

www.amazon.co.uk/Clarins-Joli-Rouge-Lipstick-Ginger/dp/B0070WR3A6 this is my go to day lip pie. Hoc lippies are super drying.

TracyK · 15/03/2014 21:57

www.salonskincare.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/5882 cheaper on here but the colour likeness was better on the amazon link.

TracyK · 15/03/2014 21:58

I find Le redoute good for cheaper tops to experiment with new colours.

ocelot41 · 15/03/2014 22:05

Ooh! I thought this thread was dead but just fell off my watch list. Love the Asda top Jennimoo and hi to Gatorade

Also wanted to let you all know that my hunt for jeans replacements seem to be over.

I never thought I would say this but the ankle skimmers from Lands End have won hands down! Uberflattering with heels or ballet flats because they are a flat front, no belt loops, pockets etc to add bulk to stomach/hips, can be thrown in the washing machine and are in the sale for twenty quid in bottle green and raisin (kind of aubergine-y chocolate). www.landsend.co.uk/mProduct?pid=P_27381

I keep being asked where I bought them from my cooler childless friends, and can then snigger at their appalled expressions when I tell them. Who care where you get them from.if they work for you?

TracyK · 15/03/2014 22:14

What size in the jeans did you for ocelot? I'm a 14, but thighs are probs still a 16 in skinnies

lougle · 15/03/2014 22:16

Nice find, ocelot! I haven't branched out with shoes yet. I used to be a 'buy a pair of shoes and wear them until they die, then get a pair exactly the same' girl. I have 2 pairs of shoes I wear Shock, so I really need to get that sorted.
