Travel is a good example of why you don't need to be short to be gamine - she is 5'6" and full gamine. It is so much in the personality and body proportions rather than just height. She and I are exactly the same height but I am Dramatic and she is Gamine and I look about four inches taller. Nobody ever thinks we are the same height.

evelynj · 12/03/2014 09:15

Thanks hopefully-that makes sense-sort of the same for linen trousers.

Wishing you all the best for the birth & hope you're not too uncomfortable -seems like no time ago I was in your shoes & my dc2 will be 8 months in a few days. My best hospital bag item was some elemis flash balm magazine freebie which really revived me in hospital-(c-section so in for a few days). Also every time I use it now the lovely smell reminds me of tiny baby girl!

Please update us when the little one arrives-hope you have some good telly watching lined up & plenty of people to look after you. Take care :)

ToffeeWhirl · 12/03/2014 13:13

I forgot my hospital bag first time round and DH had to go back and fetch it Blush.

Hopefully - how lovely to be looking forward to another baby. Those days are long behind me now (unless I have an unexpected surprise) and I still look longingly at babies. Hope you will be wearing your colours in your photos afterwards!

ToffeeWhirl · 12/03/2014 20:02

Hmm, is this an Autumn teal?

supadupapupascupa · 12/03/2014 21:12

i would say so! it's on a red haired model too which is a clue. gorgeous dress!

lougle · 12/03/2014 21:14

Isn't teal a bit more greeny?

Hmm...having googled, indian teal appears to be a distinct colour from teal. So 'real' teal is blue-green and 'indian' teal is more bluey.

I still think it would tone well with the autumn colours - it's lovely.

ToffeeWhirl · 12/03/2014 21:24

Will add it to my wish list then Grin.

RahRahRasputin · 12/03/2014 21:45

I ordered three skirts from YOOX. This beige one which I'm returning as it doesn't quite suit me but is a good match for the autumny beigey colour and this geranium one. Also a rust coloured tube skirt but it's not on the website anymore. I've not ordered from YOOX before but was very impressed. They ship from Italy but order arrived very promptly and I can return within 7 working days and a courier will collect, which is handy.

I've just got back from a bit of a spree in H&M. They have lots of great autumn colours in. I've got some good basics - tan jeans, navy jeans, beige pencil skirt and navy blazer. Also various t shirts and vests, a lovely teal shirt, rust jumper... Got a bit carried away Grin

Also, got a lipstick from Boots with No7 voucher, it's called Shiny conker and looked similar to the rust one I was recommended during my colour analysis, but a lot cheaper than the HoC ones. Can anyone recommend any other cheaper suitable lipsticks? My recommended ones were Red 606, Rust 621 and Coral 22, which is a spring one, but I'd be open to trying other autumny shades! :)

Lots of lovely clothes on the thread, as always, I'm having to sit on my hands to stop myself ordering anything else!

RahRahRasputin · 12/03/2014 21:46

Oh it's Ruby but I namechanged as not running at the mo :)

supadupapupascupa · 12/03/2014 22:17

teal isn't even in my swatch..i have kingfisher and peacock, neither of which are as greeny as some clothes i have bought which i think work well. I think that teal is fine to be honest

lougle · 12/03/2014 22:37

some lovely stuff there!

TracyK · 12/03/2014 22:38

Hi guys
Ive not been on MN for years now - but see this thread and is interesting. I'm a leaf autumn and a Rom Nat (think pirate ruffles, leggings and boots - that Ive been living in).
Just to say - I've had good success with Zalando for brown knee high suede or leather boots. I've thrown all my black ones out. Most are in the sale now.

TracyK · 12/03/2014 22:41

Also - if you join the facebook group All things autumn. There are docs on there that have pages and pages of makeup lists to try (some only avail in USA - but a lot of the regular brands)

RahRahRasputin · 13/03/2014 09:20

Ooh thanks for the group recommendation TracyK, I will have a look.

I don't know my style personality as can't really justify the cost of a style day at the mo. Could anyone link to a good description of the different styles? I've read a few but they weren't very clear, and so many results come up on Google I never know which are most reliable!

TracyK · 13/03/2014 11:55

I'd say defo go for the style day - its better money spent - even more than the colour day imo.
Could you get it for mothers day as a pressie?
I was more or less spot on with my self analysis - but got confused by rom and dramatic. Dramatic means angular - rather than over the top. Cos I quite liked over the top - but am not boney and angular, much more rounded and soft. I think they should change the name of dram as its a bit misleading?
I am more natural - liking comfy, sportsy, horsey type clothes and boots. No fussy little jewellery or 'cute' things. No lace, no peter pan collars etc. But I do like to bling things up - so sportsy - but still with sunnies and a big soft snood.
Have a look on pinterest and you will be able to see the different types and see what you are drawn to.
Also - things like - could you wear creased clothes - or do you HAVE to iron stuff first. Do you feel comfy wearing a low cut top? Is your home super tidy or relaxed (aka a mess :) ). What is your bedroom decor like. These things may point you in one direction.

evelynj · 13/03/2014 12:53

I'd agree on going for style day & was also surprised/miffed not to be dramatic as I love blingy jewellry.

TracyK, that's a great tip for the fb group, thank you! Like the other analogies on style too.

Lipsticks I've found and bought that are good

Maybelline 24hr-infinite coral & fire coral, (fire one is bright orange but awesome-gosh do an orange lip liner that's a good match)

Bourjois-no 10 rouge edition, good tomato red & think there's a rimmel or maybelline one called neon red

Rimmel Kate moss no 19. Great everyday lippy

Also I've swapped my pinkish mac blush for bourjois healthy balance 2 cream blush & look much healthier with it I think, (just ordered an nyx cinnamon one so will review on arrival!)

The HoC ones are fab though-my fave is the geranium & brick on the to buy list

RahRahRasputin · 13/03/2014 13:20

TracyK no children so I don't really qualify for a Mother's Day gift unfortunately Wink I'm sure it would be helpful but I had a bad experience with my colour analysis and I really don't have the money to spare at the moment. Plus I'm quite good at picking out what I like and so I think even if I was told to wear something completely different I wouldn't change!

I don't seem to quite fit into any categories from what I've seen so far. I will have a look on Pinterest :)

evelynj thanks for the make up recommendations. I didn't really like the feel of the HoC ones I tried on the day, so not sure I feel they're worth the higher price tag. But if I can't find any alternatives that suit me I will have to give in! :)

lougle · 13/03/2014 14:10

Most people are a mix of two styles, apparently, RahRah. I'm a natural gamine, so need boyish, tailored, fitted clothes, but also need natural fabrics and textures. It can be confusing because the internet things say gamine=short, but apparently it isn't necessarily so.

evelynj · 13/03/2014 17:05

Rahrah-sometimes if you find one you like in boots or wherever, you'll find it cheaper on eBay. I'll do this occasionally if I'm not too impatient.

Going to buy the coloursport dark brown dye for eyebrows & lashes tomorrow for a DIY job-severe budget cuts for me now maternity allowance has ended!

lougle · 13/03/2014 17:26

I used Maxfactor's Soft Hazel today and it looked quite nice and autumny.

lougle · 13/03/2014 17:28

Oh...I bought a Max Factor Wild Shadow Pencil - it's a 2-in-1 Gel Shadow and Liner. I don't know what's in it, but within about 30 seconds my eyes were red and streaming and felt like they were on fire. It went within a few minutes of scrubbing it off, but it was so painful. Looked quite nice for the 30 seconds it was on. Wink

JenniMoo · 14/03/2014 20:39

I bought you'd all gone quiet then realised the thread had dropped off my watched list!
Here are some recent purchases:
More expensive than it looks mustard top from asda
Will go beautifully for work with
camel boden skirt
Boden Mustard sun dress can't quite justify this as not right for work but can't breastfeed in it so no good the rest if the time. And a bit expensive for what it is.

lougle · 14/03/2014 21:16

Lovely, JenniMoo Smile

lougle · 14/03/2014 21:17

I was a bit disillusioned today. I have some M&S vouchers and they had about 8-9 sale rails today. Everything was either the wrong cut, the wrong colour, the wrong style or the wrong fabric. If I could have mixed up about 4 or 5 different tops it would have been alright!

JenniMoo · 14/03/2014 21:28

Underwear? I still have slips on my shopping list after the style day. I've got an order coming with a couple of tops but they wouldn't be your style ;) In fact I can't even remember what I ordered...
