You are an Ebay Queen supa! Yes I meant the yellow one, can't link directly to it, sorry. I think you need to flick through the gallery to find it.

supadupapupascupa · 08/03/2014 12:28

ToffeeWhirl · 08/03/2014 18:20

supa - sadly your links aren't showing up because I think the images disappear once the bidding has ended. You are doing well though. I must have a look on ebay...

I have my eye on this teal tee shirt from White Stuff for the summer. I have a shirt from them in exactly the same colour and it suits me really well.

Wow, those are good finds, supa.

lougle · 09/03/2014 22:31

I went to my style day on Saturday and travelincolour diagnosed me as a 'Natural Gamine'. Any one else out there?

I'm trying to get my head around it so I can start adjusting my wardrobe.

JenniMoo · 10/03/2014 07:09

Hi again lougle! I also did my style day and am the opposite it seems: a natural romantic! I've found suitable things I've stopped wearing tucked away in both my colours and style so have a good start already.
I could really do with an autumnal wrap style dress to wear to a wedding where I'm likely to need to breast feed if anyone sees one. I'm watching some on eBay but would be better if I could return!

lougle · 10/03/2014 07:45

Hi Jenni Smile You're so much further on than me. I've got....two pairs of trousers and two tops that are 'right'. Everything else is either really poor quality, washed out, or the wrong colours/fabric/fit.

I'm on a budget so I think charity shop/ Ebay is the way forward.

I might even resort to buying some natural gamine patterns and making my own clothes!

JenniMoo · 10/03/2014 08:27

All the fabrics I like tend to be a bit gamine and quirky ;) I don't think I have many more items than you though, I pretty much brought my entire autumn wardrobe on Saturday!

lougle · 10/03/2014 09:15

Shock you are hardcore!

We should have swapped our clothing personalities as well as our scarves Grin

I was quite pleased to find I was gamine - I hadn't even considered it because I thought you had to be short. I'm just a bit overwhelmed with the task. But I was like that after the colours day and within a week or two I'd calmed down. I'll get there.

ToffeeWhirl · 11/03/2014 09:40

Just found this geranium red shirt - not sure if I'm brave enough to wear it after so many years wearing blue. This colour was given a two-star rating on my Hoc chart though.

Am adding it to my wishlist for now.

lougle · 11/03/2014 13:35

Ooh that's very pretty, ToffeeWhirl.

I've had my hair cut today and went for an even shorter gamine style.

ToffeeWhirl · 11/03/2014 13:46

That's a lovely hairstyle, Lougle.

supadupapupascupa · 11/03/2014 16:39

what exactly do you come away with from a style day with HOC? considering it for my birthday....

lougle · 11/03/2014 18:53

I was quite sceptical of the style day before I had my colours done, but then Travelincolour explained the style day during my consultation.

I'll run through my day:

-I had a class with JenniMoo and another lovely lady. We were all fairly recently colour analysed and none of us had any clue about our style, really.

Travelincolour talked us through the basis of style personalities and the history of it.

Stage 1:
Our first task was to think about and write down our objectives for the day - some people may want an overall image, others may have their casual wardrobe sorted but struggle for office wear, etc. Then we had to think about how we want to be perceived, which gives clues as to your clothing personality. It's interesting to think of how our clothes portray an image and how our personality can clash with our clothing style, etc.

Next we looked at our lifestyles - what do we spend our time doing throughout the year? That was really helpful - no point spending lots of money on the one night out a month you have if you're doing the school run every day in clothes that don't fit and are falling apart.

We had tips on how to build a capsule wardrobe, what to consider, etc. What makes a good buy - both in terms of the quality of a garment and in terms of the fit/style/usability. How to budget for clothing and what we need to consider when allocating a budget for different clothes. Also, a really helpful session on how to have a positive shopping experience. It might be fine for many people but I know that I associate shopping with stress and pressure.

Stage 2:
Travelincolour assessed us individually for:

-body geometrics
-body shape
-Face shape
-Body proportion and balance

We also did a personality quiz.

From that information Travelincolour was able to determine our clothing personalities (I'm a natural gamine) and give details of:

-What neckline suits
-Whether shoulder pads will help
-Whether a top should reveal cleavage
-Where buttons would look best on a top
-Where a belt should be worn
-What length jacket would be best
-Whether you should avoid/choose details on the hip
-How long a coat should be
-How long your skirts should be to look the best

Then, she was able to tell us:

-What scale of patterning suits us best
-What lapel types will flatter
-What sort of bags/belts would be suitable
-Which fabrics would best suit our clothing personality
-Which type of patterns would best suit us.

We then had a short session on making the best of our wardrobe - things like having nude underwear so that it doesn't show through your top, etc., and a session on creating interest in your clothing.

Finally, travelincolour went through our style sheets (sheets with pictures of different styles of dresses, skirts, jackets, tops, etc.) and identified which styles would suit each of us.

We were given a workbook with all of the above in, which we made notes in throughout the session and were also given an information sheet which told us about our clothing personality and what the key features are. For example, as a natural gamine, I need to have a neat look but also use texture in my clothing.

I hope that helps? It really was far more involved and bespoke than I expected. Also, we were all completely different from each other! In fact, JenniMoo and I had both brought scarves along with us and we ended up swapping them because JenniMoo couldn't make her scarf work (because it was a gamine scarf!) and I had a scarf with me that I'd tried to wear and always ended taking back off (because it was more suited to JenniMoo's style personality). So we swapped them and were both happy.

supadupapupascupa · 11/03/2014 19:14

wow! I think i'm going to do it :-D Thank you, that's really helpful x

evelynj · 11/03/2014 22:10

Jenimoo-I'm a natural romantic too! Glad you ladies enjoyed the style day, I thought it was great but I'm still trying to get to grips with my style-e.g. like the idea of palazzo pants but not sure what footwear goes apart from sandals. Either way I'd recommend it Supa -really goes hand in hand with the colours-I did both on one day but think a few weeks/months break would be even better!

I've been researching powder blushers & going to try the nyx cinnamon as it has good reviews.

Anyone know anywhere for autumn swimwear? Or any holiday dressing tips?

ToffeeWhirl · 12/03/2014 00:36

That's really interesting to know, lougle. I'm looking forward to doing a style day when I've saved up enough. I want to save enough to go on a little spending spree afterwards too, as I remember how much I wanted to buy clothes in my colours after the colour analysis.

Were there any styles you think particularly suit you which you were told don't suit you at all? I have pretty fixed ideas about what styles I should wear (V necks, not polo necks, for instance) and would find it hard to believe if I was told otherwise.

Hopefully · 12/03/2014 06:58

Hello! Sorry I haven't been round much, am feeling neither stylish nor beautiful at the moment (only a couple of weeks to go now before DC3 appears - I am more focused on hospital bag packing than capsule wardrobe packing!)

Evelyn I suit (some) palazzos too, but I have accepted them as exclusively a summer trouser, as in the winter even if I can find footwear I can't wear them when it's wet etc. I have been known to wear them with sneakers for casual in spring/early autumn, but mainly it's sandals/flip flops.

Toffee that shirt looks fab! I'm tempted, been on the hunt for more shirts.

lougle · 12/03/2014 07:08

I was really surprised to be gamine, just because I'd read online descriptions and thought you had to be short.I'm 5'8". However, once travelincolour gave me my style sheet, lots made sense retrospectively, if you like.
I could suddenly understand why I loved a coast skirt I'd bought but had never worn it out of the house because it just felt wrong. It was the right colour, the right fabric, right pattern, so I couldn't understand why it looked wrong on me. It turns out that although my body proportions are fairly even from top to bottom, I'm proportionally slightly small busted. The skirt is quite full, below knee and a-line. So that just emphasises the slight imbalance and makes me look bottom heavy.

re.the neckline thing, you'll probably find out why polos don't suit you. Part of the face analysis is looking at your jaw angle and the length of your neck. It's about proportion, though, so someone task has to have a much longer neck to be 'long-necked' than someone who is short.
