I was quite sceptical of the style day before I had my colours done, but then Travelincolour explained the style day during my consultation.
I'll run through my day:
-I had a class with JenniMoo and another lovely lady. We were all fairly recently colour analysed and none of us had any clue about our style, really.
Travelincolour talked us through the basis of style personalities and the history of it.
Stage 1:
Our first task was to think about and write down our objectives for the day - some people may want an overall image, others may have their casual wardrobe sorted but struggle for office wear, etc. Then we had to think about how we want to be perceived, which gives clues as to your clothing personality. It's interesting to think of how our clothes portray an image and how our personality can clash with our clothing style, etc.
Next we looked at our lifestyles - what do we spend our time doing throughout the year? That was really helpful - no point spending lots of money on the one night out a month you have if you're doing the school run every day in clothes that don't fit and are falling apart.
We had tips on how to build a capsule wardrobe, what to consider, etc. What makes a good buy - both in terms of the quality of a garment and in terms of the fit/style/usability. How to budget for clothing and what we need to consider when allocating a budget for different clothes. Also, a really helpful session on how to have a positive shopping experience. It might be fine for many people but I know that I associate shopping with stress and pressure.
Stage 2:
Travelincolour assessed us individually for:
-body geometrics
-body shape
-Face shape
-Body proportion and balance
We also did a personality quiz.
From that information Travelincolour was able to determine our clothing personalities (I'm a natural gamine) and give details of:
-What neckline suits
-Whether shoulder pads will help
-Whether a top should reveal cleavage
-Where buttons would look best on a top
-Where a belt should be worn
-What length jacket would be best
-Whether you should avoid/choose details on the hip
-How long a coat should be
-How long your skirts should be to look the best
Then, she was able to tell us:
-What scale of patterning suits us best
-What lapel types will flatter
-What sort of bags/belts would be suitable
-Which fabrics would best suit our clothing personality
-Which type of patterns would best suit us.
We then had a short session on making the best of our wardrobe - things like having nude underwear so that it doesn't show through your top, etc., and a session on creating interest in your clothing.
Finally, travelincolour went through our style sheets (sheets with pictures of different styles of dresses, skirts, jackets, tops, etc.) and identified which styles would suit each of us.
We were given a workbook with all of the above in, which we made notes in throughout the session and were also given an information sheet which told us about our clothing personality and what the key features are. For example, as a natural gamine, I need to have a neat look but also use texture in my clothing.
I hope that helps? It really was far more involved and bespoke than I expected. Also, we were all completely different from each other! In fact, JenniMoo and I had both brought scarves along with us and we ended up swapping them because JenniMoo couldn't make her scarf work (because it was a gamine scarf!) and I had a scarf with me that I'd tried to wear and always ended taking back off (because it was more suited to JenniMoo's style personality). So we swapped them and were both happy.
