Ooh! Lovin the coat schmalex!

I have just got the Crocodile scarf from Kettlewell (kind of a muted lime green) and am gobsmacked about how it enlivens the forest greens, browns, olives and teals in my wardrobe. Turns out I am a scarfy type after all - but I never really spent money on accessories before (I said that I am new to this didn't
I?) It's a revelation...

schmalex · 27/02/2014 20:58

Thanks, ocelot! I saw it on a blog somewhere, can't remember where now though...

lougle · 27/02/2014 21:02

I bought these trainers for running. Not absolutely sure if they're 'right' but they were a good fit, good style for me (after gait analysis) and good price!

I'm loving my scarves - never thought I'd be able to do that stuff.

I think I've always wanted to be as 'unnoticeable' as possible, so it's quite strange to wear something and push past the panic of possibly being 'noticed' because of it.

lougle · 28/02/2014 15:20

Well, the Great Plains cords have arrived and I am...delighted! Really nice fit, even with my long legs. The colour is described as 'petrol' but is identical to shade 34 (kingfisher) in my swatch wallet. Just perfect and only £15.

Hopefully · 28/02/2014 15:34

Great news on the cords lougle. Also, I have decided sports shoes are the area where colours cannot come into it - they have to be perfectly comfy. My running shoes are silver, white and bright blue. They look awful with my grey/orange running gear, but my feet come first here Grin.

Ocelot a lot of the colour magic can be in combinations rather than single colours. I only have something like one tick at 50% for orange, but I wear it loads to add contrast to dark colours, and it is wonderful.

Schmalex those trainers are a 'true' grey (i.e. winter). Lizard grey I always describe as a kind of storm cloud grey - you know when there's about to be a storm and all the clouds look kind of dirty? Most autumns IME can take their greys quite dark, but if they are dirty greys then they work far better, and tone in with autumn colours more effectively.

lougle · 28/02/2014 15:50

Before I got them out of the packet I thought 'oh blue...I'm going to need to bwear my black boots which aren't great and hurt my back.' Then I saw the blue and they look so nice with my brown boots Grin

Seri77 · 28/02/2014 16:05

Just got my green fatface cardigan today. It is an excellent match for apple jade. I'm really pleased.

lougle well done on the bargain cords.

Hopefully that's interesting about the greys. I have a dark grey cardigan that I still wear because I think it looks good, goes well with autumn colours and it is a very wide V neck so well away from my face. Also I think building a work wardrobe of autumn neutrals with my particular style category may be very challenging without making use of grey.

charitygirl · 28/02/2014 16:18

Frustratingly I have a parcel of potential Autumn loveliness stuck at my parents' house, and won't be abe to liberate til next Weds! But as they are great bargains I thought I'd better share them.

First this skirt - agonised as I really don't do ruffles and frills but kept thinking abut it and I think the length and fabric mean it will fit into my wardrobe well (I'm an ingenue natural by the way). £29 for real tweed sounds good.

And this - which I've had to order a size too large but you never know...if it fits it could be brilliant.

Also loving this jumper on Atterley Rd - painfully aware they're offering 20% off this weekend.

ocelot41 · 28/02/2014 17:12

Well done on your purchases everyone!

Lougle can ask what the cut is like on your cords? (crosses fingers for not skinnies). They sound lovely- and a bargain!

lougle · 28/02/2014 18:08

They are totally skinnies, I'm afraid, ocelot41. I'm a size 10 right now (was an 8 before the children but have put weight on) and the size 10 cords are snug around the waist and snug against the legs.

With the waist being quite small (I normally have to wear a belt with size 10 trousers because I'm a bit in-betweeny), I wonder if you'd get a more relaxed fit if you went up a size on your normal dress size? You might find the waist is still ok, or that it's fine once you wear a belt.

ocelot41 · 28/02/2014 20:00

Probably not Lougle but thanks anyway. I am only a 12 but have always been pear shaped so skinnies just don't work on me (sobs into saddlebags). Have tried all sorts of skinnies, but no, I just have to stay away.... How to do that without falling back on mumsy bootcuts is a toughie!

schmalex · 28/02/2014 20:16

Love that French Connection sweater, Charitygirl!

supadupapupascupa · 02/03/2014 20:02

right. you're either going to think i'm a genius, or insane. or maybe both. but today i went to B&Q and i spent ages picking up all of the Rich and Warm colour cards (the dulux ones) that i thought were part of autumn colours. i felt like a thief! seriously! i nearly decided to come back another time, but have justified it because we are actually decorating in autumn shade also Grin
i collected two of each, and then when i got home i took one set, hole punched it and tied them together with ribbon. oh my god. it's fab! i assume that all the colours will work?
i THEN took the other set, matched my wallet to the cards and created a personal colour chart. 2 sheets of A4, the first one with 100% colours and 75% colours, the second with 50% and 25% colours. under 100% i had 4 levels for *,,// and/ (HOC system incase you think i'm totally bonkers!)
IT'S BRILLIANT!!! a few colours are missing which i will fill in with magazine scraps, but i can see immediately what to buy in what colour!! It's immediately apparent that all the dark colours are for colour blocking and suits/dresses, and the lighter ones used sparingly.
I'm sad aren't i?
insane genius?

charitygirl · 02/03/2014 21:47

!! I'd love to see that supa!

supadupapupascupa · 02/03/2014 22:02

I will post a pic when it's complete Grin

lougle · 02/03/2014 22:15

It's great!

evelynj · 02/03/2014 22:32

Hi all, been trying to avoid buying anything for a while due to lack of wfunds & losing weight. Whilst I'd like a fat bank balance & skinny waist, it's not happening fast! Catching up on some of the recent posts & glad to see that grey has had a nod of sorts-it's the one area where I was starting to rebel a little!

Supa-I'm also impressed with your homemade swatch! Not long after getting my colours done I was lusting after a really autumnal coloured car that someone had! It is so addictive-I've been to a chalk painting workshop last weekend so that's been my new addiction this week. If it sits still long enough, I'll paint it!

I like some of the recent links-I've just ordered this mega cheap jumper from asda, unsure what the colour will be like but like the design & think it's great that they've teamed up with young designers at graduate fashion week! Will report when I see it iRL

direct.asda.com/george/women/jumpers-cardigans/graduate-fashion-week-ribbed-jumper/G004463436,default,pd.html

Also, bought some bargain ebay boots tonight-a bit like the gold ones someone had linked to a while ago

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Designer-vintage-style-ladies-cowboy-biker-boots-New-RRP-130-/181336323170?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=o08EmrFF5bw%252FTlEYwsoeRL%252F4RBU%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

I'm on the lookout for a midi skirt-bought a cheap midi dress for £15 in primark last week. It's great as really lightweight & large sort of paisley pattern with orangey red, cream, brown & a dash of purple. I find it really hard to find autumn prints.

Also need a swimming costume as starting to think about summer hols-yay, preferably budget-saw a leopard print one in sainsburys with tummy control but would prefer proper under wired bra type one.

In lipstick news, I've bought the bourjois no. 10 & really like it. Maybelline have one that's called neon red that I may go for next & though I still love the fire coral 24 hour lippy, (bright orange & what I'm wearing in my new passport pic!), think I will get the toned down one of infinite coral as it's still a good shade. My trouble is now when I wear make up the bright lippy looks good but then on lazy days with no make up I look kinda like a corpse & am embarrassed to be seen!

Seri77 · 03/03/2014 08:20

Supa that swatch sounds great. And a lot of work.

As I'm losing weight I've bought a few things from ebay: a khaki skirt, a brown tshirt and this jacket. It will be too big for me but I intend to get it tailored to fit me. I've never bought Boden before so hope it's good quality.

I saw a link to this website on another thread. I think I'm going to find it very useful for building my wardrobe when I get to target weight. It talks about seasonal colour palettes, choosing your neutrals, capsule wardrobes etc. well worth a read.

RunRunRuby · 03/03/2014 09:15

I did an ASOS order last week. I sent about half of it back :( but have kept...

Sugarhill Boutique sundress it's got a few purpley hints but mostly quite a dark teal.

Pale pink cami which is very close to Rosewood

Also plain t shirts in navy (not marine navy but I think I can get away with it) and mustard, and an orange cardigan.

I have another delivery coming tomorrow with this camel pencil skirt and gold shoes

I may have got a bit carried away! Grin

supa your chart sounds like a great idea! :)

I went into Mistral with my mum yesterday and they had quite a few autumn colours if anyone is interested, lots of browns and lime and teal.

I'm trying to find a navy blazer but haven't had much luck yet. Also looking for a nice wool/wool blend coat in an autumn colour.

ocelot41 · 03/03/2014 09:50

You are a GENIUS supa!

sotiredfornow · 03/03/2014 10:07

Hi ladies, I have now had my Style Day too so am raring to go. Exciting but also realising how hard it is to find items in both style and colour - especially this time of year with all the spring colours around.

I love the Sugarhill sundress listed above. I need XS or would have bought it. Story of my life, can never find my size :(

I have a holiday coming up very soon and desperately need mini / petite sundresses. Anyone seen anything? I'm in panic mode and likely to end up buying anything, even if not quite right.

Could I take some advice - would THIS (blue garden flowers) print work? I'm a dark blue autumn so do suit navy. This print has mustards and tans and a bit of sage green. The blue doesn't look warm but do you think it could be OK??
