Run i shared your feelings towards autumn colours - initially.....but it's got better, I don't wear black much anymore, I'm a big fan of navy - it works for me enough for life to feel less sludgy. The thing I've enjoyed most about my experience is being more confident with colour, I wear a lot of red, yellow, orange and green with jeans.

And I just invested in the most comfortable pair of rust suede heels - too expensive to risk being a mistake, I don't wear heels very often and they tone with everything I wear.

The orange zara coat is going back - it looks fabulous but it itches - I'm gutted!

I also got on of the shell t shirts from Tesco in off white, for £12 it really is lovely, the fabric feels great - even though it's polyester! Mind you the whistles version is around £80 and it's polyester too!
And this jumper which looks lovely on and reminds me of the hand knits I used to have in the 70's. The black thread through it actually looks like forest green.

hopefully have you received your scarf yet - I bet it feel gorgeous, you'll love it for a lifetime.

Thank you for replying :)

hopefully no I couldn't really see it during the analysis. It felt a bit like the emperor's new clothes, as the consultant was really enthusiastic about the differences but I couldn't see it. I felt really pressured into agreeing and then I started thinking 'oh maybe I do see it' but I think probably wishful thinking as sometimes it was the wrong colour Blush I didn't see it with the others either but I noticed that when she told them a colour looked great they'd be smiling so then naturally looked better than when it was a 'bad' colour and they were frowning. I've tried it at home too, several times, most recently yesterday. I can't see any difference on my face between black and the kingfisher turquoise colour, for example Confused the only slight difference is that some colours bring out the red colour of my hair more and others make it blonder or browner.

I know there are some colours (mostly pastels) that don't suit me but I've had lots of compliments of the sort I was told to expect when I'd had my colours done, when I've been in 'wrong' colours Confused

I think part of the problem is that having my colours was a big treat for me when I finished chemo, I'd been looking forward to it for a while as I'd felt so frumpy and ill looking, then my consultant was quite unpleasant and I didn't really enjoy the experience at all, and as I don't 'get' the colours either, I feel a bit ripped off :( also I'm worried I didn't wait long enough after chemo as I was quite anaemic so my skin was much paler, almost grey Blush I don't know if that could've affected my result? Although she said she knew straight away what season I was if my hair colour was natural, which wasn't affected by the chemo at all.

snowdown that sounds hopeful, thank you. Do you wear specific coloured jeans or just normal blue denim? I love jeans, basically live in them, but my consultant was really negative and said it would be difficult to find a suitable blue, I think partly because she had probably never worn jeans in her life! Grin the shoes sound lovely. Rust is one of my best colours, and one of the ones I like too. Also do you wear only marine navy or other navy too? I have a lovely navy top that I always get compliments in :( sorry about your coat, it looks really nice!

Sorry to ramble on so much. I shall shut up now and read through more of the posts and try and get some inspiration :)

Emo76 · 15/02/2014 10:22

hi runrunruby - I am a rather reluctant autumn too partly as there are certain colours which I don't like and never have which are some of my best!

JenniMoo · 15/02/2014 10:27

I wear normal indigo jeans at the mo as feel like it's not too far off. There are some brown ones in debenhams and I plan to look around more now my saggy mummy tummy has receded slightly, but will wait until I do my style day (4 weeks today I think!)

Ruby - I think you should go back in a few weeks / months when you feel less 'grey' and see if you can see it then. For me it was the greyness appearing that meant I could see a colour was wrong for me. I'm still rubbish at the moment 'seeing' colours on my own but it was only the end of last year I had my colours done.

ToffeeWhirl · 15/02/2014 10:35

Ruby - sounds like you didn't have a very good consultant, to be honest. I'm really sorry it wasn't the confidence-boosting experience you needed. You must feel so disappointed. There are good HoC consultants out there: mine was absolutely lovely - very encouraging and not at all judgemental in any way. I wonder if it's possible for you to have a second opinion from another HoC consultant. Hopefully might know.

ToffeeWhirl · 15/02/2014 10:39

I am still getting used to my Autumn colours, by the way, and am rebelling against some because they just don't suit me or my character. I couldn't wear an orange coat in a million years, for example (although I thought it was a lovely coat linked to upthread). And I'm not happy with either the Hoc blusher or lipstick I bought - I have to tone both of them down because they are simply too bright and artificial. However, I have discovered new colours that do suit me, which I would never have bought before my analysis, so it has livened up my wardrobe. And it's early days still.

ToffeeWhirl · 15/02/2014 10:41

Oh, and Ruby, I wear jeans all the time. Don't care at all if they are Autumn or not, as I just make sure I wear my Autumn colours on top, near my face.

Snowdown · 15/02/2014 11:35

Run I think everyone takes something different from the colours day. Some people will only wear their colours and take quite a rigid uncompromising approach, others tone colours with their colours and for some it's a vague guide, no one is scoring you on how you use the info.

I wear proper navy - I love it and it looks good on me. I'm not convinced. that I can only wear strict autumn colours. Anyway some of the autumn colours look awful on me or don't suit my personality - I'm a vibrant autumn so all my ** colours are the deep rich colours. I always got complimented when wearing white, I wear a winter white now...it probably tones better with my wardrobe but it's been hard to find autumn colours in the kind of clothes I like to wear - I see the Kettlewell stuff and I run a mile, their styling is awful but I have started build a wardrobe that feels more like me...and I wear blue denim, I'd miss it too much - for me it's a neutral basic, it's far away from my face, it tones with my clothes because it tones with everything.

And black is something I don't buy now because IMO it doesn't really tone with a lot of colours other than white but I think I can wear it too, have worn it to a black tie event with gold accessories and I felt happy and confident and IMO I looked good! So I would encourage you to use it to make you feel a bit braver about colour and step away from being safe with black.

This is not a religion, there's no compulsion, you are free you take and leave what you like.

What are your ** colours? Maybe we could post some links to inspire you.

RunRunRuby · 15/02/2014 12:13

Thank you :)

emo hello to a fellow reluctant autumn! :)

Toffee you're right, it was the complete opposite of confidence boosting Sad after she had done my analysis, she said I knew you would be an autumn because of how awful that colour (top I was wearing) looks on you Hmm I knew I didn't look my best but I didn't really need that! Plus the other two ladies there were friends of friends from the same private members club she went to so they were all talking about all the people they knew and she spent ages doing their analysis, then I was last and she just rushed through while still chatting to them over the top of my head Angry I'm a student so I can't really afford to pay for another consultation right now, I'm hoping that once I get used to my colours I will start to see it better but if not I might consider another consultation in a year or two.

snowdown thank you, that's a much better way of looking at it. When I went I was thinking I'd just buy a whole new wardrobe in my colours which is probably a bit too extreme. The problem with black is that all my wardrobe staples (boots, handbags, blazer, biker jacket...) are black, and I can't afford to replace them all at the moment. But you're right I could add some of my best colours alongside them, then hopefully I can gradually phase out the black without it being too traumatic Grin

jenni thank you :) I'm less grey now but I can't see the greyness with any colours, I think I will just keep at it and hopefully once I'm more used to the good colours then I will be able to see the difference when I go back to the bad colours. I hope you enjoy your style day, that sounds like a really good

I'm reassured that I can still wear my blue jeans Grin

My ** colours are:
tan, brick, rust (she gave me * * for that), coffee, moss green, amber, mustard, bronze, and kingfisher ( * * again)

I like brick, rust and kingfisher, but the other colours feel too 'grown up' for me, I'm only 23. My absolute favourite of them all is geranium but I've only got one star at 25% for that, it would make a fabulous handbag or shoe colour though!

Thank you all so much for being so kind, I already feel much less overwhelmed and can see that I will probably get used to my colours once I start wearing them more :)

ToffeeWhirl · 15/02/2014 12:56

Run - I feel really upset on your behalf. The consultant sounds very unprofessional. How dare she chat away to the other two women over your head like that! She should have had them round separately if she wanted a party with them. Would you consider complaining to HoC and telling them what you've said here? I wonder if they would give you a free consultation with another consultant to make up for it. Especially as you don't feel confident in your analysis.

So sorry you've obviously been through a very difficult time and this special day didn't cheer you up as it was meant to Flowers.

charitygirl · 15/02/2014 18:44

I also feel you have been cheated out of the HoC experience ruby! Please do give some negative feedback to the head office if you can be bothered.

One thing I would say - do NOT think you have to restrict geranium to accessories just because of the star rating. It will still be a really good colour on you compared to reds like burgundy, cherry. I only have a star at 25% for royal purple but one of my favourite items is a midi dress in that colour - I can see it makes my hair and skin look great. But whatever you like in geranium or any other colour in your palette - I'm sure our resident consultant hopefully has said something similar. The stars are just a guide to show which areas of your palette are best. I have no ** in the pale autumn colours so I know that as a rule of thumb I should veer towards dark, rich shades. Doesn't mean I won't ever buy a camel coat tho (cashmere please).

Hopefully · 15/02/2014 19:46

Snow what a shame about the Zara coat!

Ruby I'm so sorry it wasn't the experience you were hoping for. I'm not at my comp but will send you a PM tomorrow (I'm a HoC consultant). No wonder you're feeling a bit bleak about the whole thing, I think I would be too. Re the star colours, Charity has it spot on with her explanation.

RunRunRuby · 15/02/2014 21:04

Thank you all, I don't know whether to complain, it's been so long and I should have said something at the time! I don't think she meant to be rude, I got the impression from what she said that perhaps it was more of a hobby than a job for her and that most of her clients were friends or friends of friends (one of the other women had been bought a voucher for her birthday by friends of the consultant) so perhaps she wasn't really used to doing the consultations with people she doesn't know.

hopefully that is very kind, thank you.

charity thank you, that's reassuring. I like red and I'm pretty sure it suits me so will go wild with the geranium! Grin ooh cashmere coat, that would be so cosy!

Hopefully · 17/02/2014 09:06

Don't know if anyone else is a loungewear obsessive (I am plotting my post natal wardrobe!) but it looks like Hush will have some nice oranges and corals in their collection this season - sneak peek here. It's apparently going to be online tomorrow.

I am trying to find slouchy v necks in wool/merino/cashmere, and struggling hugely. I want a slouchy boyfriend shape, with a deep-ish v (contemplated trying some men's sweaters, but the v is never very deep). Found the perfect sweater in J Crew but, ermm, £228 for a sweater which is essentially for slobbing out seems a teeny bit indulgent.

Snowdown · 17/02/2014 09:13

Hopefully Pure has quite a big range at the moment. Hush new season looks great doesn't it - just hope their quality hasn't bombed. When is the new arrival expected?

Hopefully · 17/02/2014 09:32

There is one sweater I'm tempted by in Pure, but they are full of spring/summer colours mainly (or beige!). Baby not coming till end of March, so I have a little time left. Had my last clients this weekend so am finally able to wallow in loungewear!

Snowdown · 17/02/2014 09:40

What about Baukjen? Their ss14 stuff looks very samey and a bit dull but you may find something like a v neck boyfriend sweater. I had one of the hush boyfriend v necks in cotton last year and I found it lost shape too much as I wore it, it moved from slouchy to shapeless through the day - ended up donating it to sil.

Hopefully · 17/02/2014 09:55

Cotton sweaters are always a bit of a gamble, aren't they? Seem to often go shapeless. Will check out Baukjen, but they seem to be rife with summer colours this year, the bastards!

RunRunRuby · 17/02/2014 18:42

I saw a nice slouchy rust coloured V neck jumper dress (but could probably be worn with trousers as quire short!) from ASOS but it's acrylic not wool Sad sorry. I will link anyway just in case anyone else is interested ASOS rust jumper dress.

I've started my summer shopping (!) and I'm trying to get the right colours. Would these Havaianas in salmon be okay? :)

Hopefully · 17/02/2014 19:16

Oh that is a lovely colour Snow, I'm plotting an ASOS order for basics soon, so I might add that to the list as a cheap alternative (definitely a better option than the £228 sweater!)

Salmon Havs look good. I have a pair in pumpkin, which are virtually the same colour, fractionally orangier. I am hankering after a gold pair for this summer. Also, not that the colour is in any way right even slightly, but how awesome is this Where's Wally pair?!

Seri77 · 17/02/2014 20:05

My thoughts are turning to spring/summer wear though as Im on a weight loss kick I'll only be looking for the next couple of months. I do love coral even though it's just 2 ticks at 75% for me I think it really makes me look good.

I have completed my winter wardrobe with these boots but in brown in the sale.

RunRunRuby · 17/02/2014 20:11

Ooh the where's wally ones are cool. I was hoping for a more orange shade but I wanted the thicker sole too. I was tempted by the gold ones and also an animal print and gold pair Blush I love flipflops!

Nice boots seri :)

Seri77 · 18/02/2014 14:21

Thanks RRRuby. I wish I could do heels! I love the heeled boot & skirt look.

I have a fat face voucher to use and saw this cardigan which has some online exclusive colours so I can't check them in the shop.

I'm not sure whether to go for cinnabar which is darker and perhaps more suited to my autumn leaf colouring or tea rose which looks like a true coral and therefore a better colour for spring/summer. Or is the moss green close enough the HOC apple jade as I'm ** at 100% in that?

Advice please!
