Only the best thread in S & B to talk all things Autumn.

Oh spotty, that's no good. I agree you should maybe get in touch with HoC. Have you anything in your * colours? I suppose for some colours I could have wondered if they work or not & agree that I loved grey & couldn't always see the colours although loved dark brown before & it's a * for me.

I've decided to believe-much easier as I totally loved my consultant & have faith in her. Although I'm overweight & not tres fashionable, I definitely feel more confident & complete now as I'm always in autumn colours & everything in the wardrobe goes together.

Tell us your ** colours & we can try to find a scarf or something that you could get. If it's colours you aren't used to wearing it's quite a mental adjustment. Try taking a few photos of you in autumn colours & then others-it might be more obvious in photos than real life. Don't give up!

evelynj · 10/12/2013 18:38

Sorry-my 2 stars seem to have gone to 1 star & bold in that last link!

QueenofWhatever · 10/12/2013 19:30

spotty you said 'I appreciate it's also my fault, I'm difficult, I want to look good but spend little money, I want to look groomed but not to essexy, I want to look elegant but effortless.'

I want all those things too, but I certainly don't see anything wrong with that. I definitely think you should contact head office, because whether you were diagnosed rightly or wrongly that's terrible customer service. They won't want that associated with their company, and you'll never see that consultant again anyway.

You, like the rest of us, deserve to go through this process and come out the end feeling excited and confident.

I've just bough this navy blue Boden dress for £20 off eBay and am really looking forward to it arriving. As an ingenue natural who spends all her time at work, I think it'll be spot on.

Spottycurtains · 10/12/2013 20:41

My two stars are chestnut, tan, brick, geranium, rust, moss green, bronze, navy, kingfisher, peacock and Forrest green. There are loads but I never seem to find the right shade.
Thanks for all kind words and offers of help. I'd love to find a skirt and top, keep buying skirts or tops to find they look wrong together. I'd love dresses too but I have small breasts and so think they look wrong. If anyone comes across such items I'd be mightily grateful.
That boden dress looks lovely, what would you wear it with?

ShinyBauble · 10/12/2013 20:59

ToffeeWhirl Actually it does look green! I have the burgundy one and that is a true colour match to the site, so I suppose it must be on the green side!

evelynj · 10/12/2013 21:34

Wow, that is loads of 2 stars, you're so lucky!

I adore that Boden dress-what a bargain.

Spotty, try some plain tops/t-shirts-eBay have some esprit & Boden. Also h & m are good & get a scarf-something like this or other prints, have a browse.

Also remember to look at things on you in natural light. It makes so much difference. There was a tomato red cardigan in tesco that was recommended on this thread-I thought it didn't suit me but then it was reduced so I bought it & actually loved it in daylight & now any other light. Have a read through the whole thread & the previous thread & google to see Pinterest & pictures of people who are your sort of autumn. It's a big learning curve I think but exciting!

ToffeeWhirl · 11/12/2013 10:44

Green wrap dress arrived today. It looks lovely on - clingy in the right places and also managing to hide any unsightly tummy bulge Smile. It's described as forest green, but it is a closer match to dark olive on my swatch, which is one of my one stars. So glad I now have a dress to wear over Christmas.

Hopefully · 11/12/2013 11:29

The phase 8 dress looks lovely Toffee. I am quite tempted to buy in the sale for next year!

GeorginaWorsley · 11/12/2013 13:18

Spotty they are my colours too!
Admittedly I haven't been formally diagnosed though.
Love the Phase Eight dress above.
I do wear greys though, and occasionally black but I hate matte black ,so only black leather or something sparkly!

ToffeeWhirl · 11/12/2013 13:56

The trouble with that dress is that my brown boots (which I wear every day) look very tired and well-worn in comparison and the only other shoes I have are black court shoes or red high heels. I daren't spend anymore money though am sorely tempted, especially by some outrageously gold glittery party shoes I saw at Office, so will have to polish up the boots (and maybe get them reheeled) to get me through Christmas.

Glad you like the dress too, Hopefully and Georgina. I wouldn't have given it a second glance before I had my colours done, but it does look lovely on.

evelynj · 11/12/2013 18:22

I love the dress too but think red high heels would be ace. Red & green with a bit of gold jewellry=fab!

My friend bought a teal dress for her Christmas do & while I don't think she'd be an autumn, I've lent her lots of autumn accessories & makeup & the whole ensemble looks fab, (apart from the gold hoop earrings that she first tried that look awful on her but I'm quite certain they suit me:)

ToffeeWhirl · 11/12/2013 18:53

Do you, evelynj? I love my red shoes (suede, very high - for me). I will have to have a trying-on session and see if they go with the dress. I could wear the boots for dressing down and the shoes for dressing up.

Your friend's outfit sounds gorgeous. I hope she's going to lend you the dress in return!

GeorginaWorsley · 12/12/2013 20:49

Give your boots a good polish up and wear with dress for daytime.
I have it in my John Lewis basket....

Hopefully · 13/12/2013 16:24

I am on the hunt for a new pair of uber-casual slouchy/biker/something boots to replace my ones from last year which are falling apart. Need to be suede or Nubuck (not plain leather), and and anything in the dark brown/tan/coffee/lizard grey sort of range. Previous pair were a slightly darker lizard grey and were soooo useful.

Hopefully · 13/12/2013 16:24

Oh, budget up to about £200 for the perfect pair, but I'd prefer the £125 sort of mark.

evelynj · 13/12/2013 20:38

Hopefully, not sure if these are lizard but think these are the ones I saw today & lovely, (free delivery & returns anyhoo)

Well, the lipsticks arrived - I quite like the geranium but it looks really pink & shiny on me, (all hoc lipsticks seem to be really shiny on me). Rust is ok but not great. The mocha is ok but the maybelline fire coral is my all time fave-bright orange & Matt & I adore it!

charitygirl · 14/12/2013 16:58

Hello autumns - December spending ban means I'm trying not to look at clothes, but I had to come and show you this beauty

www.atterleyroad.com/gold-stud-waisted-dress-4.html

Not on the agenda at that price of course, but I can look!

jennimoo · 16/12/2013 08:48

So, nail varnish... Do I just pick the sane colours as I would clothes, from the swatches? Any tips? And if I'm getting them done at a salon how do I make sure they'll have / use the right colours?

Hopefully · 16/12/2013 09:07

Jenni I tend to try to pick warm colours only, but I don't panic too much about slipping into Spring colours with my nail varnish. Saying that, when I actually look at my nail varnish it is 90% autumn colours anyway. If I put burgundy/dark red/bluey colours on my nails I look like I have the hands of a dead person, it really does make a difference. If you're getting them done, just pick a nice tomatoey/orangey red, or something you know will go with your colours like teal/gold/rusty colours.

Evelyn I actually bought last year's version of those boots, which is what I'm looking to replace! They are the exact same colour but are suede all over - I hate suede/leather mixes. I love these but they are expensive and impractical, colour wise. Would be lovely for smart/casual outfits though!

jennimoo · 16/12/2013 09:47

Thanks hopefully, just what I needed.

onlysettleforbutterflies · 16/12/2013 13:29

I wish I had read the bit about Coral Fire, being 24 hour colour stay, tried it on at lunch time and I love it, but can't rub it off now and have come back to work feeling very self conscious Grin. Looking forward to wearing it to my Christmas parties.

I also bought this skirt, I have knee length chestnut brown boots but what would look nice on the top half and what colour tights, just brown?

Green skirt
It says khaki green, but I would describe it more of a forest green, but happy to be corrected.

ToffeeWhirl · 16/12/2013 17:05

Lovely skirt, only.

QueenofWhatever · 16/12/2013 19:17

Charitygirl, I love that Atterley Road dress, but not keen on the wispy, see through bit at the bottom. I know it's all the fashion now, it I think it makes clothes look unfinished.

ToffeeWhirl · 16/12/2013 19:27

Anyone know what tights I should wear with my new green dress?. I wore it with nude tights and black shoes when I had dinner with friends on Saturday (red shoes too high heeled for casual dinner, but boots too shoddy), but didn't feel right. Was wondering whether to go for green tights next time. There's a website here that does all sorts of coloured tights.

onlysettleforbutterflies · 16/12/2013 20:54

Coral fire didn't go down well with ds who is nearly 3, he told me to take those lips off mummy and refused to come near me until I had Grin.

Will save it for my infrequent nights out!
