Hello, dearie!

originalpiratematerial · 17/09/2013 15:30

Grin hello there motherinferior! Wink

QueenQueenie · 17/09/2013 18:31

Splice the mainbrace, shiver me timbers... etc.
Ahoy there pirate.
Sympathy re wattle. I take to wearing scarves at all times in the winter in case someone mistakes me for a turkey and slaughters me for Christmas dinner.

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2013 18:33

Do I get the feeling that you two know each other?

Grin QQ!

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/09/2013 18:46

This is very dull, I know, but I got some Christy's bath sheets in TK Maxx today for £9.99. Identical to those that Johnny Loulou was selling for £32.00. We got our Christy's towels as a wedding present, and I feel that now, after 20 years, I should perhaps renew them.

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2013 18:48

Only 20 years old, MrsS? My DM has some that are about 40 years old!Grin

motherinferior · 17/09/2013 18:50

I may just kill an impossible client. When I have decided which one.

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2013 19:10

Is your DH visiting the DC's school tomorrow? Apparently DD may be on tour duty - no doubt as an unplanned antidote to the HT's speechGrin

QueenQueenie · 17/09/2013 19:46

I don't know Pirate, was just trying to be welcoming but now feel rather overfamiliar

OP posts:
motherinferior · 17/09/2013 20:42

No, we will do it later. Tomorrow I am wrestling with a perfect storm of deadlines and interviews...

Cremolafoam · 17/09/2013 21:17

Mrs S love your Tkmaxx bargains. That's exactly where my towels came from but I am going to go back and get more. The fuchsia pink ones I got( I know I know ) have inexplicable holes in. Htf do you get a hole in a towel I ask you?
Have you solved the double white goods conundrum ?

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2013 21:26

Fushia pink towels sound lushSmile

Actually, my DM still has bright pink and purple bath towels from the seventies! I think I persuaded her to buy them and they definitely didn't match the décor which was brown and yellow and orange seventies bathroom wallpaperGrin

originalpiratematerial · 17/09/2013 22:01

Grin queenqueenie

indeed pirates have a long and venerable history on this board, I believe. Thank you for the welcome!

beachyhead · 17/09/2013 22:25

Well done QQ for all your efforts in recent workload challenges... and jammy Mrs S for her two weeks gardening leave (although I secretly suspect that you would prefer to be in work, leaving dh to the boxes and Billy bookcases)...

I spent a very dispiriting lunch hour in Hobbs, trying on seven pairs of trousers, none of which fitted... I am a strange shape indeed.

I did spy this in M&S is it too busy and although I have worn the same boring trousers and tops for the last two years, I feel I should be moving towards dresses....

Only problem is that I HATE TIGHTS!!!!!

And a welcome to Pirate....

CointreauVersial · 17/09/2013 22:58

I like the dress, Beachy; I think the monochrome stops it being too busy.

Re: secondary schools - I also have a Y6, but she will be going to the same school as DS and DD1; no discussion needed. I just have to remember to actually put the application in.

Gardening leave Envy you lucky person, MrsS. Having said that, work for me is humming along nicely at the moment, and today I actually plucked up the courage to ask my boss for a payrise. I have been there for 6 years, and have had only the standard across-the-board inflation-linked annual rise, nothing to reflect the fact that my role and responsibilities have expanded considerably since I was first hired as a "part-time mum who could do a bit of data entry". He took my request on board, so we shall see......it is worth a try, at least.

Cremolafoam · 17/09/2013 23:03

Like it Beachy like it!
Cv good for you . Hope they say yesSmile

Fabulous fashionistas on ch 4 now:

wilbur · 18/09/2013 08:28

I was coming on to post about Fabulous Fashionistas and Crem beat me to it. What great women - I love them! God, hope I can still touch my toes when I'm 87, if I get to be 87. Check it out on 4OD ladies, it will give you much hope. Smile

Like that dress, beachy, not too busy at all. I am also rubbish at dresses due to hating tights, but I did treat myself to some Falke tights a couple of years ago and they were a complete revelation - comfy and no wrinkly bits. They were the opaque ones and I've also got some of their woolly ones now, which are equally brilliant. Nylons (as my mother used to say) are still a problem though - I ladder them just by looking at them.

Blackduck · 18/09/2013 08:53

As far as I am concerned tights do not come below 15 deniar (10 at a push) so they are real winter wear for me - think tights and boots.....

Actually re schools I think I am feeling a bit like Stropps and feeling a bit meh. I am not convinced they are necessarily preparing ds for the 'real' world....

We are also in the middle of sweargate here - ds swore and was ticked off both by another mother (he was at their house) and us, and has apologised profusely - knows it is wrong, won't do it again. Unfortunately the youngest child (who didn't actually hear it - was in bed) has been telling the whole school and when ds asked him to stop said 'no because it is funny and I want to get you into trouble'. Ds is beside himself..... trials of schooling hey!

bigTillyMint · 18/09/2013 09:19

Oh dear, BD! Just as well he does't hear the language my two use to each other Blush

In S&B news, I am wearing a dress with bare legs - still brown enough from the summer!

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/09/2013 09:22

I hate tights. I can never get any to fit properly, apart from Wolford. The last batch of M & S that I bought all fell down, and it wasn't me, as it happened to a couple of people at work as well. Sainsbury's opaque fitted quite well. I used to buy Boots tights, which had a high lycra content and just sort of used to snap into place on your legs, but these are long gone.

Our chaos is no better, and won't be until we can get rid of the boxes - anyone know where we can dispose of boxes in saaaaf London?

wilbur · 18/09/2013 09:23

But are your pins not freezing cold, BTM? I am having trouble maintaining warmth already and it's only September fgs. A 10 degree drop in temperature is too much for me to cope with and I grind to a halt. I think I might be part lizard.

wilbur · 18/09/2013 09:30

MrsS - if you join Freecycle (there will be a board for Lambeth) and say you have packing boxes, people will come and take them away, they are always asking for boxes.

motherinferior · 18/09/2013 09:34

Are they cardboard, MrsS? If so can you forcibly flatten them and recycle?

I tend to wear leggings with dresses, along with biker boots. I realise that in some parts of MN this is Not Done, but I am among friends here Grin. I shall probably be sporting some sort of arrangement along this line on Friday. I am also planning to get some of those thick fleece-lined tights for DD1 to wear in the winter - probably the Primark cheap version.

I have conducted my usual sedate Ladyjog - thus completing week 2 of Couch to 5k - and written for an hour today. Now, however, a total car-crash of back-to-back interviews begins.

Blackduck · 18/09/2013 09:41

Bare legs! BTM! I'm in 10 d and knee boots!

MrsS sympathise re boxes - we ended up going to the tip (tries not to think of the ££s that ended up in a skip)

beachyhead · 18/09/2013 10:00

I hate tights so much, that sometimes I'm tempted by long skirts/dresses and boots with socks......All good, till a gust of wind exposes blue pimply thighs...

Just saying, if I buy that dress, I might need new boots.... in fact the tights that Wilbur recommended are about the same price as the dress Grin, add to that the cost of boots and this foray away from my boring, boring trousers might be an expensive one.... Would be cheaper to lose my tummy and therefore fit trousers better!

DS has entered puberty, which so far seems to be a slightly gruffly voice, a greater inability to hear anything you say and an indignant response when you ask him to turn off the computer....
