Well I think that's all you probably need to know MI Grin. Will save you looking round! Dss school had all the results on their website by 10am on results day...

Yes, DD1's school has lots of showy-offy stuff up there Grin

We're looking round her school tomorrow. DD1 is a student guide. As is at least one of her best mates. I confidently expect applications to drop, in the face of such relentlessly bouncy enthusiasm.

Stropperella · 16/09/2013 12:43

I actually just snorted at the idea of dd being a student guide for her school. "This is bit is horrible and the teachers are crap. This bit is really boring and that bloke is a complete idiot. That bit, well, I'm not even bothering to show you that. No, don't send your children here. It's rubbish. And the new ties they've just introduced are totally awful colours that don't go with the badge. I mean, what are they like?"

Stropperella · 16/09/2013 12:45

Although she did show a brief flicker of enthusiasm today as she is starting learning Japanese at a new after-school thing aimed at the best linguists. I think she was flattered to be invited.

CointreauVersial · 16/09/2013 13:13

Grin Strops! I can just picture the scene.

Actually, I was shown around one of the schools by a couple of Y7s who had only been there for three weeks. They got lost several times, and didn't have a clue about very much, tbh. They were very sweet and polite, but that could hardly have been seen as a reflection of their new school as they had barely got their feet under their desks.

The lad who showed me round DS's current school I wanted to adopt after 30 minutes. He was just what I wanted DS to turn into (let's just say it's a work-in-progress).

wilbur · 16/09/2013 13:16

I need some slippers with proper soles too, I have a great pair of soft sole ones from M&S here but they can't really go outside. Dh bought me a pair of boot slippers from White Co a couple of years ago which were uber warm, but again soft sole and they don't stay properly on the foot, so a complete death trap when going up stairs.

Dull weekend doing tax return (still not finished) and feeling bad about windfall apples. We have a glut of fruit, which is wonderful and normally I would be happily peeling and chopping in front of TV, but this year the to do list is so paralysingly long that I've lost the will to do anything.

motherinferior · 16/09/2013 13:16

I wanted to adopt the boys who showed us round BTM's kids' school. They were Y7s but just adorable.

DD1 has a list of FAQs. I am thinking of new ones to ask whoever shows us round tomorrow....

bigTillyMint · 16/09/2013 13:37

MrsS, I LOVE those slippers - I have put them on my wish list!

Stropps, I think the scene would be similar with my DD, sadly. DS might put a bit of humour into it though! I'm not sure MI would want to adopt him thoughGrin

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/09/2013 10:14

Page 3, Hags?

I have apple envy, Wilbur.

Cremolafoam · 17/09/2013 10:21

Morning all!
I have an apple issue Smilealso jealous of ipad mini Envy
How do I solve 'sticky button ' on the iPhone. ?
It's driving me mad.

wilbur · 17/09/2013 10:27

Do you want some apples MrsS? We have really, really plenty. They are eaters though, not cookers, but actually, they freeze well and make nice crumble after you cut off the manky bits. We made chutney with the slightly green ones last year and it was yummy. Maybe we can work out a way to swap apples for microwave? PM me if there are days when you are around - is your flat in the congestion zone?

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2013 10:45

I too have apple envy - our tree, which was weighed down with them last year has none this yearShockSad

motherinferior · 17/09/2013 11:46

oh GOD I never want to look round another school, or indeed talk to another Y6 parent, again in my life.

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/09/2013 12:09

I was supposed to start back at work today, so contacted them, to be told there was nothing for me, and not to contact them, they will contact me. Oh and if I haven't heard from them in two weeks time, to call again. Hmm They are, however, still paying me... Grin

Blackduck · 17/09/2013 12:26

MrsS can I have your job ;)

I am doing the school thing next week (well one of them) and the other one in October. I am hoping that I will be impressed with next weeks and that it is a done deal and I can fill the form in and forget about it....

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2013 13:08

MI, it wasn't my DC's school that tipped you over the edge, was it? The HT's talk is enough to make anyone want to give up the ghost!

MrsS, result!

BD you have to visit lots - that is the law! Only then can you make an informed decision on your "preferences" And then wait and see what they give youSmile

motherinferior · 17/09/2013 13:10

Also (bear with me) I get peculiarly annoyed with parents who say "oh well X isn't really a science person so the school's maths and science specialism isn't appropriate for her". It was precisely that which gave it the edge for me as DD1's maths wasn't her strong point and the school's pulled it up thanks to having specialist teachers. And how on earth can you tell at primary level anyway, eh? It's not as if the arts are exactly neglected, she's doing three languages, dammit...

I have also given myself a nasty irritated stomach by overuse of aspirin for migraine so am convinced I am perishing of internal bleeding.

motherinferior · 17/09/2013 13:11

Er no, BTM, I am reserving that joy for DP. He is...quite something, innit Grin

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2013 13:13

Mmmm, you could say that!

Stropperella · 17/09/2013 13:36

Well, ds will be moving schools at the end of this academic year too. He is Yr 4, so will be moving to middle school next year. The one dd went to is 5 mins walk away. The one that is allegedly better at drama and music is on the other side of town i.e. 20 mins walk away. Grin Despite enjoying his drama and music, he'll be going to the nearest one (which is obviously the one we're in catchment for anyway) and I won't be visiting either of them. Do I get the "Slacker Parent" award? Grin This is actually just a statement about how all the schools round here are pretty much of a muchness. Nothing much to get excited about, either way.

hattymattie · 17/09/2013 13:46

Well - today it has not so far rained so roofers are going at it. Fingers crossed.

You lot think yourselves Lucky with your school tours - in France you just go to the school - no tours the first time you're really in there is for parent/teacher meetings.

DS has gone into secondary school and said he realises how "safe and wimpy" primary was. Poor thing - it's tough going back to being the littlest in the school.

MI - I was laughing at your DD's "relentlessly bouncy enthusiasm". DS has an American teacher like this - she is new over from the US and hasn't had it knocked out of her by the French system yet. Apparently she arrived in class and said "I woke up feeling a bit glum this morning but then I remembered I was seeing you guys and I felt so much better .." continues in this vein. DS being British finds her completely bonkers.

wilbur · 17/09/2013 14:17

Am also fighting my way through Y6 parents' visits for DD. Did one last night, but was probably too knackered to take it in properly. Got another this weekend and more to come. She sat an 11+ grammar test at the weekend, bless her, which was an organised bunfight.

BTM - you are welcome to pop over and have a bag of apples...

Blackduck · 17/09/2013 14:49

BTM - its either or round here (a bit like where Stropps is) so you either put x and y or y and then x :) You will (usually) get your first choice!

There is z which is the long shot both in terms of getting in and location....

Blackduck · 17/09/2013 14:49

Or you pay of course, dp won't pay....

originalpiratematerial · 17/09/2013 15:04

Ooh, can I join?? I have an unfortunate wattle thing going on which I've been in denial about. And can always use a few tips about style, being in general a style-free zone. Happily, autumn is a good time to rediscover my favourite skin product which is the delightfully old fashioned Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream. I used it all last autumn/winter/spring to protect my fizzog whilst out running and it was marvellous.
