On the hunt for a half-term holiday. Requisites include warmish (so southern Spain, but not middle Italy), historic stuff to look at, pool, self-catering, not touristy villa complex yet things for DS to do and optional company, and with reasonable flights.

We'd found a dear little place in the mountains west of Seville, but the only flights there either leave at 6am or arrive at 11.30, neither of which are ideal.

Pretty much all the mumsnet recommendations are in France, apart from the top one, which is ludicrously expensive.

Cremolafoam · 11/09/2013 19:46

Have you liked at Toprural for properties?
here
I'd try skyscanner for flights to Spain where you can type in time parameters for departure . You might be able to get a more suitable flight time that way. Smile

I am back! Briefly - I am off to Paris tomorrow for DD1's last orthodontic appointment. I am suffering a bit, I appear to have bronchitis and have spent most of this week in bed, surrounded by cardboard boxes. Why do we have four irons? I have told DH that I want it all sorted by Christmas, and I don't care if he hates Billy bookcase, I am ordering several, just to get rid of these boxes of books.

On S & B front, I discovered TK Maxx online while I was waiting for my air freight to be collected, and a pair of brown Bench ankle boots and a pair of vair lovely leopardskin wedges (Ecco) were delivered the day I arrived back in UK. DD1 looked covetously at the boots, but I am keeping them. Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 11/09/2013 20:43

Four irons, two huge plasma TVs (people will think we're on benefits if they are Daily Bile readers and look through the window), two hoovers, two microwaves, four dinner services, four sets of cutlery (have binned one), fourteen glass vases of varying sizes and designs, six decanters... shall I go on?

Cremolafoam · 11/09/2013 20:52

GrinHurrah mrs s ! Welcome back. Am wel jel of leopard bootage. Really like the sound of those. Please wear next week so I can admire in the flesh.
(Did anyone email Beachy with details btw)
What the actual fuck are you going to do with your stockpile of equipment.?
Make friends with gumtree maybe?

QueenQueenie · 11/09/2013 20:53

Oh well done Mrs S. Sorry you're poorly. Jolly well done for surviving all that. Are you missing AB?

BD, hope things have gone OK for your Mum. Thinking of you, it must be very stressful for everyone.

CV, speak to me!

MI, much sympathy re writing despondancy. The deadline for what I've been working on forever is Monday. I finally feel like I'm on the home strait, woo hoo, but it's been hellish. Am going to see Leonard Cohen at the O2 on Sunday evening which I am hugely excited about. My plan is to finish EVERYTHING by then....

Herbs, what a superstar your gorgeous boy is! So glad it's going well.

holidaybug · 11/09/2013 21:12

Er, not quite sure. I'm early forties so am not crepey of neck but am not full of the flushes of youth!

MrsSchadenfreude · 11/09/2013 21:16

Early 40s, come on in, Holidaybug!

Blackduck · 11/09/2013 21:34

Holidaybug - you add yourself! More the merrier...

I am off to (hopefully) see mum in morning and then on to management workshop - be still my beating heart...

four irons?! That's one each - why?? (Says she who irons once a month if that...)

CointreauVersial · 11/09/2013 22:22

MrsS - four irons! Shock I need an iron - mine is about to die (and not from over-use; the British Museum might be interested in it).

Soz, QQ, not ignoring you, just stupidly busy today (I managed to get distracted at work over some trivial issue which could really have waited, then ran out of time to do what really needed doing, and I've been playing catchup ever since.....) - yes, yes, of course you can have the silver pixie boots; you can even take advantage of the 20% off! I'll bring them on the 20th.

Poor DSM was bumped off the ops list today - she was in bed dozing, in her gown, when there was a tap on her shoulder telling her to get dressed and go home, as the surgeon wasn't going to get to her. She's not in any major discomfort, but really hacked off at still being in limbo after several months waiting. BD, hope all is well for your DM.

I'm working from home tomorrow, supervising glaziers (new patio doors) and sparks (new central heating controller). Can I stay in my PJs, do you think?

Stropperella · 11/09/2013 22:57

MrsS, why not get rid of a few books? Grin I have decided to have a major clear-out and am going daaahhhn the local car-boot sale soon to see if I can turn any of our rubbish valuable possessions into actual cash. I have therefore had a ferocious book cull. I still have books that I bought about 30 years ago to look brainy and have not read them yet, so it is clearly time for me to give up trying to look brainy. My bookshelves are now a far more honest reflection of my intellectual capabilities. Hmmm, moving swiftly on...

wilbur · 11/09/2013 23:02

4 irons, that's brilliant. We have two but only because I was given a fancy pants steam one by Mumsnet. Your unpacking sounds a lot like mine, MrsS, we have ridiculous multiples of many, many things including glasses, loo brushes, and sofas. And no bookcases. BTW, if you are planning to ebay/gumtree one of the microwaves, I'll make you an offer for it.

Sorry about your DSM's op cancellation, CV, that's very frustrating. It does make one worry about the NHS. My health check today declared me low risk of death so they are only checking my cholesterol Hmm, even though I said I have no spleen and that we have such terrible vascular problems in my family it's a wonder any of us still have feet. I would have liked them to do some full bloods as I haven't had that done for a while and I know for a fact you can die of something sneaky while your weight, waist circumference and blood pressure remain perfectly within the normal range.

wilbur · 11/09/2013 23:06

Holidaybug - stay! Do you have dcs? Ages? The crepeys' dcs range from 4 to, erm, somewhere in their 20s. And [whispers] we are not as wrinkled and falling apart as we like to pretend and actually scrub up quite well. Smile

alto1 · 11/09/2013 23:11

BD, glad operation over. Be prepared for a bit of a shock tomorrow, first post-op day was worst for me if not for dh. He was still tied up to loads of machines and looked awful (but didn't remember it later). Even next day he looked much better.

Teenage strife here. Dd miserable and sobbing when I got home, after nasty, bullying phone call from 'friend'. Same friend we took on holiday with us & bent over backwards trying to please Angry. And whose mother is coming for coffee with me on Fri Hmm.

Friend has a bit of form for this: dd is usually the peacemaker. She's less willing to make excuses for friend this time - but afraid of how badly friend will act out.

Think we managed to cheer her up and other friends are supportive. God knows I hate middle age but I wouldn't be 14 again.

MrsSchadenfreude · 11/09/2013 23:11

Ho yes. I remember my first crepey meet up, when I was nursing the hangover from hell and hiding a bar bill of £400 from the night before, and you lot greeted me with the words "We thought you would be really old!" I am still not sure whether to be cross or flattered at that.

Wilbur, if you are on the 159 bus route, I can drop off one of the microwaves. They are both cheap and cheerful (will check they both work) so won't want anything for them.

MrsSchadenfreude · 11/09/2013 23:14

Strops, we had over 100 boxes of books, records and CDs. The men lugged it all up the stairs and one of them asked me if I had ever thought of getting a kindle. They are mostly DH's. I tend to chuck out novels as I go, and got rid of most of my pretentious books a while back and immediately reordered them from Amazon.

I have visions of me turning up at the meet up with various electrical goods now...

Cremolafoam · 12/09/2013 00:00

Haha
The meet up is turning into a Crepey Carboot what with microwaves and pixie bootsGrin ill be out the back of Tas with a bag of contraband gin and fegs.

Blackduck · 12/09/2013 06:26

Speak for yourself wilbur, I am very crepey!!

bigTillyMint · 12/09/2013 07:36

Grin Crepey carboot!

We have a strange situation with our heating and hot water. Turned on the heating yesterday afternoon, but it didn't seem to come on. Then it came on (as hot water heating turned on?) but nothing came out of the shower when DH tried last night and a burning smell by the hot water tank. So we turned everything off. The heating came on this morning, but everything was turned offConfused

hattymattie · 12/09/2013 08:04

Crossed Wires BTM?

Raining again Angry and now it's cold - cannot put on heating here as we will essentially be heating the sky.

beachyhead · 12/09/2013 09:01

I so need to do a car boot sale, but I find them quite scary....the first time I did it, so many people clustered around the car as we drove in, virtually pulling things out of the boot, that dh refused to get out he was so shocked.....I've also got some things that may be between car boot and antique fair and I'm not sure what to do with them.

Had a lovely day yesterday - got ddad down onto the beach for a walk for the first time since his heart attack in July...felt good.

Maybe we could do a Crepey meet up Secret Santa; someone gets a microwave, someone else pixie boots Grin Personally would like Crem's gin and fegs...
